Chapter 553: Chapter 553: Bad Luck

”What kind of tree is this?” Ivy asked quietly.

The temporal storage responded almost immediately.

[Warning. It would be better if you do not continue holding that plant.]

Ivy’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Hearing the warning, she immediately tossed the plant away as if it were something poisonous.

The small tree landed on the ground with a dull thud.

”What is it?” Ivy demanded.

The temporal storage answered calmly.

[To exchange or steal someone’s luck, a medium is required. At this moment, Damien is using that plant as a medium to siphon away your luck.]

Ivy clenched her teeth.

”How hateful...”

Her gaze shifted back toward the plant lying on the ground.

For a moment, she remained silent.

Then suddenly, a strange idea flickered inside her eyes.

’So Damien loves stealing luck, does he?’

A faint smile slowly appeared on her lips.

Without wasting any more time, Ivy turned around and headed straight back toward Martha’s office.

.............

Inside the office, Martha was working with Kael beside her. When she saw Ivy entering she wasn’t surprised.

Ivy quickly began searching through several stacks of files.

Her fingers flipped through the pages rapidly until finally, she found the person she was looking for.

Samuel.

His record described a very unusual superpower.

Bad Luck.

Whatever happened around him... would inevitably turn into misfortune.

Because of this strange ability, he had originally been rejected from entering the base.

The only reason he had eventually been allowed inside was due to pity, and his clean background.

Otherwise, he would still be struggling outside the walls.

In fact, his story was almost absurd.

He had attempted to enter the base fourteen times.

Fourteen times, he had been rejected.

On the fifteenth attempt, he had nearly been rejected again.

If Ivy hadn’t noticed the strange pattern, that despite having a clean background, he kept encountering ridiculous misfortunes that caused his rejection, he would never have entered.

Back then, Ivy had merely thought his ability was inconvenient.

But now...

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

’This ability might be useful.’

Soon, Samuel was brought to the location where the tree had been planted.

Samuel stood there awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.

”Miss Ivy... what exactly do you want me to do?” he asked nervously.

Ivy pointed at the small tree. ”Hold it.”

Samuel blinked in confusion.

”Just... hold it?”

Ivy nodded calmly.

Samuel didn’t fully understand, but he still obeyed.

After all, Ivy was the one who had allowed him to enter the base. In a way, she had saved him.

He slowly picked up the small tree.

............

Meanwhile, far away...

Inside a dark cave.

Damien sat cross-legged on the cold stone floor, his eyes filled with excitement.

Through the medium, he could faintly sense Ivy touching the plant.

A wide grin spread across his face.

”So you finally touched it,” he murmured.

He closed his eyes and began absorbing the luck flowing through the connection.

At the same time, he sent out a telepathic voice.

..............

Back at the base. Samuel suddenly froze.

A strange voice echoed inside his mind.

”Do you wish to become stronger than all humans?”

Samuel’s eyes widened in shock.

”What...?”

He immediately looked toward Ivy.

Ivy simply smiled calmly.

Samuel stared at her for a moment.

Then he suddenly understood. Slowly, he nodded.

”Yes.”

At that exact moment, something invisible occurred.

Completely unseen by human eyes...

Samuel’s overwhelming bad luck flowed through the medium and transferred directly toward Damien.

..................

Inside the cave, Damien remained completely unaware.

He continued absorbing the energy happily, convinced that he was stealing Ivy’s immense good fortune.

Finally, he opened his eyes. His face was filled with joy.

”Perfect...”

However, the moment he stood up...his foot slipped.

”Ah!”

He suddenly tripped and crashed heavily onto the ground.

His eyes widened in shock.

”What...?”

From his calculations, Ivy possessed extraordinary luck.

After amplifying it through the medium, he should have gained at least ten times her fortune.

Yet now...

A terrifying realization began creeping into his mind.

Instead of good luck...

He felt as if he had been cursed.

An overwhelming wave of misfortune seemed to surround him.

His heart began pounding violently.

A dreadful premonition surfaced in his mind.

But he didn’t dare think about it too deeply.

Because at that exact moment... Grace suddenly collapsed.

Her body fell to the ground with a heavy thud.

Damien’s eyes widened.

”What’s happening?!”

Before he could react further...

The cave suddenly began shaking violently.

Cracks spread across the ceiling. Rocks began falling. The entire cave was collapsing.

Damien clenched his teeth. ”Ivy...!”

Without hesitation, he grabbed Grace and rushed toward the exit.

Just as they escaped... The entire cave collapsed behind them.

Dust and rubble exploded outward, burying the entrance completely.

Damien stared at the ruins with a dark expression.

At that moment, he finally understood.

He hadn’t absorbed Ivy’s luck.

He had absorbed someone else’s bad luck.

Meanwhile, back at the base.

Samuel looked nervously at Ivy.

”Miss Ivy... is everything finished?”

Ivy turned toward the temporal storage.

”Has his bad luck been removed?”

The temporal storage seemed slightly amused.

[Yes. His bad luck has already been transferred away.]

It continued calmly.

[In fact, Damien will now suffer such severe misfortune that he may regret ever attempting to steal your luck.]

Ivy nodded slightly.

”Good.”

Then she looked at Samuel.

”You don’t need to worry anymore,” she said calmly. ”Your bad luck is gone.”

Samuel stared at her blankly.

He couldn’t believe it.

After all, he had tried countless methods to get rid of his terrible luck.

Nothing had ever worked.

Yet now Ivy was claiming it had disappeared just because he held a plant?

’That sounds impossible,’ he thought.

.........

However, when he returned home that day...

Something strange happened.

Normally, he would trip over his own feet, choke while drinking water, or bump into furniture.

But today... Nothing happened.

Everything went smoothly. His eyes slowly widened.

Still, he didn’t dare believe it yet. Two days passed. Then three.

By the third day, Samuel finally realized something unbelievable.

His bad luck had truly disappeared.

Not only that... His life was improving rapidly.
