Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 949 - 953: Taking Things As They Come

Yunyi snuggled into Huo Jingrui’s arms, looking for a comfortable position. ”Don’t worry, unless my early pregnancy symptoms get really bad, nothing else will affect me.”

Huo Jingrui held her a little tighter. Yunyi had told him before that in a few years, the country would start implementing family planning, and she wanted to have two children before the policy was in place. That was something they both looked forward to.

But he didn’t want Yunyi’s health to pay the price, so he gently tried to persuade her: ”Yi’er, I know what’s on your mind, but Nanny once said, too many pregnancies harm a woman’s body. Let’s just go with the flow, okay?”

Yunyi’s eyes were already closed, and she was starting to get drowsy. ”With the space here, it won’t...”

Huo Jingrui was still waiting for her to finish, but all he got was the sound of Yunyi’s even breathing. Well, she’d already fallen asleep.

He looked at her sleeping face and dropped a kiss on her forehead. ”As long as you’re safe and well, that’s all I care about. The rest can happen naturally.”

When Yunyi woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.

Jingrui had made breakfast and kept it warm in the pot for her, and he’d even left her a note. After reading it, she slipped it straight into the space—seriously, that guy was getting sweeter with his words by the day.

She’d barely finished getting everything in order when she heard someone knocking at the gate. ”Coming!”

She opened the door and saw Sister-in-law Lü standing outside, with the Third Regiment Leader’s wife, Sun Yanru, behind her. That was the woman they’d met on the bus the other day. ”Sister-in-law Lü, Sister-in-law Wei, come on in.”

Wan Ruhua looked at Yunyi. ”You two know each other?”

Yunyi smiled and explained, ”That day, we were on the same bus.”

Wan Ruhua suddenly understood. ”Oh, that explains it! Here I was wondering how you could know each other before I’d made the introductions.”

Sun Yanru glanced at the floor inside the house. ”Deputy Regimental Commander Huo really spoils you. These floor tiles are so hard to get! I heard he fired up the stove inside a few days in advance just to make it easier for the workers to install them.”

Yunyi had already heard about this from Jingrui before, so hearing Sister-in-law Wei mention it made her purse her lips and smile softly.

At that moment, Wan Ruhua jumped in. ”If it weren’t for the construction crew saying it’s too cold now to work outside, Deputy Commander Huo was planning to build a bathroom outside the courtyard wall.”

Sun Yanru laughed, ”I was walking down the side path just now and was wondering why Deputy Commander Huo left a door outside. So, it was to build a bathroom there! He really cares about you, doesn’t he?”

Wan Ruhua nudged Sun Yanru and joked, ”Listen to you! With a sister-in-law this pretty, who wouldn’t keep her close and pamper her?”

Even though Yunyi usually had thick skin, having them tease her like this was a bit much. ”Sisters, you’re just making fun of me now!”

That finally reminded Sun Yanru of her main reason for coming. ”Look at me, I almost forgot what I came for.”

As she spoke, she handed something to Yunyi. ”I wanted to come by yesterday, but I figured you were probably still putting your home in order, so I didn’t want to bother you.”

Yunyi took the things. ”I haven’t even had a chance to visit you yet, and you’re already here to see me first.”

Sun Yanru smiled with her eyes. ”Deputy Commander Huo once saved my husband’s life, and besides, I feel we really get along. Of course I have to look out for you.”

Yunyi hadn’t expected that Jingrui and the Third Regiment Leader had such a connection. ”Then, Sister, you’ve got to look out for me in the future.”

Sun Yanru patted her chest, promising, ”You can count on me.”

The three of them chatted and laughed for a while. Then Wan Ruhua reminded her, ”Your Deputy Commander Huo is really popular—you’ll be hosting guests tomorrow, right? It might end up being a big group. Are you set with all the ingredients?”

Yunyi didn’t hide anything. ”Jingrui was worried I’d be too busy tomorrow, so last night he already helped me get the chicken, fish, and rabbit ready. Today I’ll prep the staple dishes ahead of time, so tomorrow I can just focus on cooking.”
