Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Who’s Watching Her

Seeing the sticky substance all over her body detach by itself and dissolve instantly, Yunyi felt a surge of elation.

After admiring her skin, which had become even fairer and more delicate, she quickly calmed the excitement in her heart and prepared to leave the space.

As for the other functions of the space, she decided she would explore them slowly after she went to the countryside, as she still had many things to do before leaving.

Seeing that it was completely dark outside, Yunyi locked the door and headed out.

She had previously learned from Gu Peiyan the whereabouts of the Shen Family, who were responsible for Mr. Chu’s death. Naturally, I must pay them a visit before I leave, she resolved.

They should count themselves lucky this is an era governed by law, Yunyi thought grimly. If this were the ancient times I once transmigrated to, I would have wiped out their entire Shen Family tonight!

Although I can’t kill people to avenge Old Master Chu in this era, they still have to pay a price.

However, not long after she left her house, she sensed someone following her.

Yunyi calmly headed towards more crowded areas. I need to find a chance to figure out exactly how many people are following me, she pondered.

I’m just an orphan girl, she wondered. Who on earth could be targeting me?

There was a small square up ahead where many people were out for evening walks or enjoying the cool air.

Yunyi weaved through the crowd and managed to get a clear look at the three men trailing her.

The original owner of this body had lived in a military compound. While her adoptive parents doted on her, they hadn’t spoiled her excessively. They made her join the other children in the compound for morning runs every day, so her physique was quite good. Her adoptive father had also taught her some self-defense for a time. Unfortunately, the original host wasn’t cut out for it, so he hadn’t pushed her. Now that I’ve recovered my skills, that past training can serve as a convenient excuse, Yunyi mused.

After confirming the number of people following her, she wasted no more time and headed straight for an alley up ahead.

The men were delighted. Perfect! This makes it easier for us to act, they thought. A little girl like her? She’ll be a piece of cake to handle.

But as soon as Yunyi entered the alley, she quickened her pace and scaled the wall of a nearby courtyard. By the time the men caught up, they discovered she had vanished.

The skinny, tall man, the first to react, cursed, ”Damn it! How did we lose her in the blink of an eye?”

The fat man behind him added, ”Could she have realized we were following her?”

The one who hadn’t spoken yet said, ”She can’t have gone far. Let’s split up to search. We’ll meet back here later.”

Once they had scattered, Yunyi took a shortcut from the wall and caught up with the fat man. ”Looking for me?”

Hearing the voice, the fat man was stunned. Just as he was about to call out, Yunyi quickly restrained him. ”Make another sound, and I’ll send you to heaven.”

The fat man hadn’t expected to be overpowered by a girl. Yunyi, to be safe, pressed several acupoints on his body. ”Speak! Who sent you to follow me?”

Initially, the fat man clung to a sliver of hope. Just wait until my two buddies get here, he fumed internally. They’ll make this little bitch pay!

Seeing him remain silent, Yunyi punched him squarely in the stomach, making him double over like a shrimp. ”Madam, stop hitting me! I’ll talk, I’ll talk!”

Yunyi loosened her grip. ”Try any more tricks, and you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”

The fat man was genuinely terrified of Yunyi. ”Our boss was paid by Du Sanhe; we’re working for Du Sanhe.”

Yunyi had never heard the name. ”Who is Du Sanhe?”

The fat man, wincing in pain, took a deep breath, terrified that Yunyi would hit him again. ”Du Sanhe is an associate of the Shen Family’s Old Master in Beijing.”

A suspicion formed in Yunyi’s mind. ”What did he instruct you to do to me?”
