Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Long ago, there lived a wandering Magus named Seradin Agny.

He was neither noble nor chosen, only a seeker of truth, drawn to the deepest mysteries of the arcane arts.

In his pursuit of forbidden knowledge, Seradin delved far and too deep, and his body was broken by the raw forces he sought to command.

As he lay dying upon the charred stones of a forgotten peak somewhere in the far reaches of the Greater Universe, the sky suddenly tore open in fire and light.

From the heavens, descended a creature of legend…

A phoenix!

The mythical creature was wreathed in immortal flames, its wings trailing embers that sang as they fell.

It did not speak as men do.

Instead… it sang.

A single, unending note, mournful and eternal, as if the soul of the world itself cried out.

The song reached Seradin in the final moments of life.

It did not scorch him.

It did not heal him.

It changed him.

The song resonated with Seradin’s dying embers of life. Instead of tearing him apart, it purified his energy, reigniting his soul.

In that moment, Seradin glimpsed the truth of fire…

Not just as destruction, but as rebirth.

From that experience, the Magus found enlightenment by hearing the mythical cry of a phoenix.

The divine sound unlocked within him a deeper understanding of mana and its true potential.

This was the birth of the mana extraction technique known as…

The Song of Immortal Flame!

Despite its name, it was not a song in the literal sense.

It was a refined mana extraction and transformation technique, one that required deep internal discipline and a connection between the body, soul, and flame.

This technique allowed the caster to extract mana from the surroundings and purify it through an internal spiritual process.

This process transformed the raw mana into a special form of energy… Immortal Flame.

It was a rare type of fire that could burn with both destructive and restorative power, just like the mythical phoenix.

This mana extraction technique consisted of a threefold process.

Resonance allowed the user to draw in the fire mana from the surroundings. Refinement transformed this mana, purifying it into Immortal Flame.

Finally, manifestation allowed the caster to shape the Immortal Flame as they wished.

As a weapon, it could burn through lies, curses, and corruption. As a healing force, it could cauterize wounds, restore vitality, and burn away disease.

And as a ward…

It could shield against unclean forces and undead!

The power of the Immortal Flame lay not in how much mana was used, but in the caster’s control over its form and purity.

It was not just a technique… it was a philosophy.

Legend has it that the mythical phoenix watched over those who attempted to learn the Song.

Anna had already begun studying the profound scriptures the moment she received them from Adam a few days ago.

However, she had yet to put them into practice.

Truth be told, the Song of Immortal Flame was an incomparably complex mana extraction technique, countless times difficult than the one she was currently practicing—the one that belonged to the Ignisra Royal Family.

Yet, on the bloody battlefield, teetering between life and death, she was able to comprehend something very profound about the Song.

She had only scratched the surface, but the benefits were already bountiful.

Just like the creator of this technique, Magus Seradin Agny, she, too, had a moment of enlightenment.

At its core, the Song of Immortal Flame was not about fire. No, it was about transcendence.

It was a belief that the caster, when faced with destruction, could rise above pain, fear, and doubt to become something greater.

Fire was only the symbol.

The true power lay in the choice to protect, to purify, and to endure… even in the face of death!

This was what allowed Anna to comprehend a part of the Song in this life-and-death battle.

When she saw her friends, Ada and Daryl, and her protector, Kasper, who had been with her ever since she was a little child, be overwhelmed by the furious onslaught of her enemies, something within her sparked to life.

And even though she herself was not faring any better than they were, and was on the verge of losing consciousness, the flame within her burned brighter than ever.

They can’t die…

Not here. Not now.

I won’t let them!

Those were the thoughts that continued to echo in her mind. And they had become the match.

No strength was left in her body, but her heart roared. And in that silence, something ancient awakened.

The Song responded to her conviction, the unshakeable will to protect life, to shield others from evil.

A warmth filled her chest. It wasn’t painful, but pure.

Mana rushed in like breath to lungs.

The world slowed.

Time halted.

And from within…

The first holy flame ignited.

This was the Song of Immortal Flame!

As Anna lay crumpled on the battlefield, her blood seeping into the earth, a divine fire began to stir within her.

They burned beneath her ivory skin, dancing beneath flesh and bone, as though every fibre of her being was set ablaze.

Her breathing was shallow, her eyes closed.

Around her, the clash of steel, the collision of spells, and the venomous hissing of serpents rang out, distant and fading.

Suddenly… her fingers twitched.

Heat bloomed within her chest and spread through her veins like liquid sunlight, warm and gentle, yet impossibly strong.

There was no spell component.

Only breath. Only will. Only the Song.

Her broken wrist shifted with a soft crack, bones aligning, sinew stitching back together as the holy flame danced along her skin.

It did not burn.

It restored.

The wound on her skull, once bleeding and fatal, was now bathed in the same fire. The light seeped into the bone, knitting it whole with radiant threads of vitality.

Torn flesh closed. The dizziness vanished. The fog in her mind lifted.

She gasped, and her eyelids snapped open as holy flames flickered in the depths of her eyes.

Her beautiful face was plastered with shock as she slowly sat up. Raising her sword-wielding hand, she looked at it with astonishment.

It was completely healed.

Then, her hand involuntarily reached the back of her head. The ghastly wound there was healed as well. All that remained was dried blood sticking to her hair.

Anna looked at her bloodied hands and clenched them slowly. She could feel the power surging through her.

”...The echo of a phoenix cry, made eternal through man,” she suddenly repeated the words she had read in the scriptures.

In her stunned daze, she felt like she could hear the distant melody.

It was only then that she realized what had happened…

She had awakened the Song of Immortal Flame!
