Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1729 Twilight and Shadows

On the other side of the battlefield, inside the command tent, Shaw Jidu- Councilor of the Twilight Brotherhood - and a few other Mana Core Magi from the Union had gathered.

They stood around a table and marked several points on the map as they went through the battle plan for the day.

Similar to the Empire, the Union Magi had also divided their camps into three: east, center, and west. Currently, the Mana Core Magi and the rest of the commanders were in the center camp.

”Here, here, and here.” Shaw Jidu pointed out three points on the map and explained, ”This is where we must focus most of our men. The one by this ridge needs more attention. I believe we can break through the enemyʼs defense if we just ”

Suddenly, the tent flap burst open, and several messengers rushed in with pale faces.

”Urgent report, my lords!” They blurted out in panic.

Shaw Jidu and the others felt their expressions turn grim. They couldnʼt help but think of the worst.

”Whatʼs the matter?” he said in a grim voice. ”Is there an enemy ambush?” The messengers got down on one knee and spoke one after another.

”Major disturbance reported in the enemyʼs center camp!”

”It is confirmed that there is a fight taking place near the command tent!”

”Enemy Mana Core Magi spotted in the sky above their camp! They are engaged in battle!”

The Mana Core Magi from the Union were stunned.

Since the beginning of the battle, the Mana Core Magi on both sides had stayed out of the battle. It was an unspoken agreement between the two armies.

The battle was left to Mana Liquefaction and Mana Foundation Magi, with Mana Vortex Magi leading the ranks.

But now the balance had been broken. The enemyʼs Mana Core Magi had entered the battlefield!

What was even more shocking... was who they were fighting.

It wasnʼt the Unionʼs Magi. So then who was it?

”Do we know who theyʼre fighting?” A Union Magus asked with a grim expression.

”Negative, my lord,” said the messenger.

Shaw Jidu quickly retrieved his communication artifact and got in touch with the Mana Core Magi from the other two camps. After a quick exchange of information, he learned that none of their Mana Core Magi had engaged in battle.

”What the hell is going on?” A Union Mana Core Magus, who was preparing to head into battle, suddenly found himself more perplexed than before. ”What about their army?” Shaw Jidu asked in a grave voice, his eyes glinting. ”Theyʼre in disarray, my lord!” The messenger quickly said. ”Some have fallen from the mere shockwaves of the aerial battle. Their formation is all over the place.”

Shaw Jidu and the other Mana Core Magi quickly exchanged glances.

A brilliant opportunity had arisen!

”Quickly send word!” Shaw Jidu roared. ”Prepare the men for battle!”

Within minutes, the central camp surged into motion. Orders were spread out, formations tightened, and the ranks of soldiers advanced as one. Magi moved forward, ready to crush an enemy thrown into chaos.

Soon after, the eastern and western armies followed, pressing on both sides as the battlefield shifted once more.

And just like that, a bloody battle had begun.

Seconds bled into minutes as the two armies clashed. Shaw Jidu and the other Mana Core Magi stood on the raised earthen platform where the command tent was set up. They watched the distant aerial battle with grim expressions.

They didnʼt know who the enemy was fighting. They were curious about the identity of the newcomers. But more than that, they were very cautious. They still hadnʼt confirmed if this new group was an ally.

After what seemed like an eternity, the battle in the distant skies above the enemyʼs camp came to a close.

Shaw Jidu and the rest grew very solemn, their hands involuntarily tightening into fists. Their eyes narrowed when they saw a lone, solitary figure slowly fly across the sky above the battlefield.

And this person was heading straight toward them!

”Itʼs just one Magus,” said a Union Magus, his fists relaxing ever so slightly.

”Did his allies die?” said another. ”I donʼt sense any hostility from him.”

”Remain on guard!” Shaw Jidu barked as the figure approached them.

At last, they could finally see the newcomerʼs appearance. He had long, raven hair tied into a wild ponytail. He wore tattered robes and a cape, clothes that had seen many battles. A beard framed his face, and his eyes... they were dark, hard, and unyielding.

The Union Magi did not recognize the newcomer, but the moment their gaze landed on him, they froze. Despite the person not displaying any hostility toward them, the sheer aura rolling off his figure made them suffocate. They found their backs drenched in cold sweat.

Finally, the raven-haired young man landed a dozen meters in front of them. The moment his gaze scanned their figures, they couldnʼt help but involuntarily shudder. That gaze carried a weight that was unfathomable to them. It carried a sense of confidence that everything was within the manʼs control.

Shaw Jidu forcefully stopped himself from trembling. He clenched his jaws and asked in a strained voice, ”Who... who are you, Magus? Identify yourself!”

The Dark Kingʼs gaze settled on him, recognition flickering across his

tenebrous eyes.

”Councilor Jidu, Leader of the Reformers,” he greeted with a faint nod.

Shaw Jiduʼs eyes narrowed, and he asked with a frown. ”You know me?”

The Dark King nodded. He didnʼt step forward. He could still see the wariness in the other Magiʼs eyes. He was sure that if he made any unexpected movements, they might attack him. That was going to be a bother. So he stood calmly with his hands by his side.

”Whereʼs Councilor Glynhorn?” He asked.

”You...” Shaw Jiduʼs eyes slowly widened. ”Donʼt tell me! Are you...”

The Dark King nodded.

The Dark King nodded.

”I am the disciple of Berger Glynhorn, and grand-disciple of Gerald Acadia,” he

introduced himself.

”I am Adam Constantine.”

The Union Magi felt as if they were struck by lightning. They had all heard

about the Dark King and his legendary exploits, especially those carried out behind enemy lines in recent times.

To see him standing before them now was a shock.

Shaw Jidu was more composed than the other Magi. When he heard Adam

name his lineage as someone related to the past and current Councilor, he understood. It was a subtle way of confirming his identity.

So, as protocol demanded, he raised his index and middle fingers to his

forehead, traced a small arc, and brought them to rest above his chest.

At the same time, he sent a mental transmission:

ʼIn twilight... we find truth!

Adamʼs lips curled into a faint smile. It was the first time he had smiled in a long

time.

He then replied in a tired but gentle voice.

ʼIn shadows, we seek wisdom.
