Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1042: Highly Inflammable

The disturbing mangled corpse of the flesh golem was still squirming despite being pulverised by the heavy strike of the Staff of Calamity.

Adam knew that the golem was an undead creature, to begin with. It wouldn’t go down so easily. But he had already planned how to permanently kill it. Again.

While the cultists were still reeling in from the shock—the raven-haired youth’s home transforming into a towering golem, and then the golem wielding an even bigger staff to destroy the flesh golem—he struck again.

Using the body of the stone golem as material components, he cast a spell, ingeniously making use of the resources readily available around him.

Rank 3 Spell: Rockslide!

The body of the rock golem—or whatever remained of it, anyway—suddenly trembled, then collapsed and surged forward, pouring over the mangled corpse of the flesh golem like an unstoppable tsunami of immense weight, instantly burying every last piece of the undead creature.

But Adam wasn’t done yet.

His anger still hadn’t subsided.

”Bastard, do you have any idea how much I spent building this entire property?!” He roared furiously.

Even before the mangled corpse of the flesh golem had been covered by the Rockslide, Adam had already hurtled half a dozen barrels over the wave of rocks.

With a simple wave of a hand, six Magic Missiles streaked through the air, piercing the large barrels, shattering them and spilling the black liquid within.

The black, tar-like substance fell over the blanket of rocks and immediately covered almost every inch of it.

One look was enough to tell that the black liquid was... highly inflammable!

Finally, Adam cast the final spell to completely obliterate the flesh golem from the face of this planet.

Still in mid-air, he sacrificed several red crystals, instantly reducing them into crimson dust. A large, resplendent magic circle flared to life before him, and using the crimson dust as fuel, it unleashed a roaring flaming sphere.

Rank 3 Spell: Great Fireball!

The flaming sphere descended like a judgment from the heavens, swelling with heat, light, and unrelenting fury.

It struck the tar-soaked rubble with an earth-shaking roar, and in an instant, the flames surged outwards, devouring the black liquid like a starving, gluttonous beast.

The tar ignited violently, acting as a sinister catalyst. The flames turned white hot, melting the stones covering the flesh golem as if it were wax. Slabs of rocks hissed and cracked, then sloughed away in molten sheets, enveloping the rotten horror entombed beneath.

And then, slowly, agonizingly, the flesh golem’s grotesque mangled body writhed as the molten rock clung to its skin. Chunks of flesh sizzled and peeled away.

The flames weren’t merciful at all. Adam had made sure of it. They lingered, eating through every layer of the abomination.

It tried to move, to crawl away, but the fire was faster and the rocks were incredibly heavy, pressing down upon it. Its countless mouths stretched open in a soundless wail, eyes bubbling and melting into the flesh.

And then, at last, the flesh golem collapsed.

A heap of scorched meat, bone shards, and oily black blood... that was all that remained of it. The flames flickered over what remained, as if savoring their final kill.

The cultists stood several meters away from the molten tomb of the flesh golem, watching in horror as the flames burned incandescently, lighting up the night sky.

The grotesque abomination, made from the corpses of countless Mana Liquefaction and Mana Vortex Magi, was supposed to be an undying instrument of war that could fight against an army.

Yet, it was slain by one man...

The Dark King emerged from the flames, the Staff of Calamity gripped firmly in one hand, his gaze fixed on the hundreds of cultists assembled before him.

He wore dark robes, the hems slightly singed by the fires that still blazed behind him. His back was as straight as the staff he carried, and atop his head sat a black, pointy hat.

And his expression... when the cultists gazed upon his savage and murderous expression, they shuddered.

Adam glared at them with bloodshot eyes, causing even the powerful Mana Vortex Magi, standing at the forefront, to flinch and subconsciously retreat a step back.

This brought the youth some precious time to calm down his flames of fury burning in his heart.

Damn it! What is wrong with me?! I... I got carried away.

Despite how many times he told himself that this was war, and that he shouldn’t allow his emotions to cloud his judgment, in the end... he did just that.

He allowed his emotions to cloud his judgment, and the result of it was that he had brutally murdered the flesh golem when, in fact, he could have smartly dealt with it while expending the least amount of mana.

Now, the fact that the cultists were frozen by fear, paralyzed by the sheer brutality of how Adam had felled the towering flesh golem, brought him a few precious moments to gather his breath, to clear his mind, and to plan his next move.

More than a dozen Mana Vortex Magi and over a hundred Mana Liquefaction Magi, he thought to himself, his eyes flickering with dark emotions.

I can sense even more Magi infiltrating through the breach in the mana barrier. Within half a minute, I’ll be completely surrounded, and then...

Adam’s heart turned cold. From a quick analysis of his situation here, he could tell that the armed forces of Ravenfell were greatly outnumbered.

Moreover, it seemed that the Cult had sent a staggering amount of Mana Vortex Magi to Ravenfell this time.

And then there were the Mana Core Magi, too...

Adam didn’t want to believe it, no, he didn’t even want to let the thought take shape, but he knew... he knew that they were fighting a war they could not win.

Damn it all! How did this happen?!

Right at that moment, Leeroy seemed to have come to his senses, brushing off the fear covering his being. He stepped forward and roared, ”Everyone surround him! He’s weakened from fighting the golem! Surround him and capture him!”

Adam’s expression twisted into a dark scowl. It was pointless to go all-out against these cultists and fight them head-on. That would only deplete his stamina and his mana reserves needlessly.

He had already devised a battle plan, one that was built upon the very things others mocked: the ’cowardice’ of the School of Summoning and the ’deceit’ of the School of Illusion.

Fine... if this is what it takes, then so be it.

He put away the Staff of Calamity, and instead summoned a pair of Nighthollows.

As the cultists unleashed a torrent of spells and the undead creatures charged at him in a suicidal frenzy, his dark eyes glinted with a faint, holy white light!

Then, Adam’s body began to fade into smoke, as if erased from reality.

Moments later, desperate and blood-curdling screams erupted from within the ranks of the cultists.

And so began the ghostly slaughter...
