The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1669 Socrates Gets Distracted

”Theyʼll be a while. Remi just got new stuff for her greenhouse, and the Alchemy Hall is going to want to see it. Itʼs mostly stuff for her new pills and potions, and you know how the Elder gets about new things.” Karl explained to the Elders.

”Oh, we know. For hundreds of years, weʼve known how he is.

It looks like youʼve got this whole place set up for some specific purpose, though. Is it all magical resource generation?” Elder Forsham asked.

”No, I actually modified it a bit because we have a large number of hatchling dragons here. Thatʼs why we needed you. Being a dragon yourself, youʼll understand the issue with having an Orphanage raising children who are going to reach Immortality during puberty.

Most of the caretakers should be Immortals by then, but the rambunctious toddler years are going to be problematic. Plus, there are things we need to teach them that Iʼm not sure our first batch of volunteers will know.”

”Who did you get?” Elder Forsham asked, already aware of the specialties of most of the Clan, based on their shopping habits.

”Weʼve got Nyan, Geoff, Brother Chin, and probably Min. I donʼt see her leaving voluntarily now that sheʼs found baby dragons.”

The warehouse Elder laughed. ”Occupational hazard of being a green dragon Cleric. Well, technically sheʼs a druid. But itʼs close enough when she is a green dragon to begin with. I can likely arrange for some teachers once the little ones start to grow more than the people here can handle.

That should be a few years, so youʼll have a bit of time to prepare for them.

Is this space still adjusting in power? I can tell that the mana is quite dense, but itʼs a mix of two realms.”

Karl nodded. ”It is. Weʼve still got plenty of mortals here, and without the mortal mana, they canʼt advance properly. Without access to mortal mana that their body can process, they will grow to the peak of Mythic, then hit a bottleneck that they canʼt overcome because their bodies were designed to process mana that doesnʼt exist around them anymore.

So, I keep it up, and add Immortal Energy to the mix.

It lets everyone advance smoothly, even me. It should also let the young dragons grow up big and strong. But that brings us back to why youʼre here. We will need stuff. Training materials for immortal dragons, study guides for toddlers if the process is different, and anything else I am not thinking of right

now.

The Matron likely knows better than I do, but with so many hatchlings, sheʼs a bit busy at the moment.”

While they were talking, the perpetually escaping black dragon hatchling came over with Tena the Divine Lightning hatchling right beside him. She had seen him sneaking down the mountain, and that meant that something fun was about to happen.

Only good things happened when you managed to escape the Matron.

Until she caught you.

”{HI Karl! I sensed combat on Thor, and came to hear the new stories.}” The little black dragon explained.

”{I came because he was doing fun things.}” Tena added.

Elder Douglas laughed. ”And now I see how it would be chaotic with multiple species of hatchlings. How many are there in total?”

”A little over a hundred, including the sub-dragon species. There are over a dozen different species, as I recovered the eggs from a dragon hunter camp.” Karl explained.

The Elder made a protective gesture, which both hatchlings tried to mimic. Forsham laughed as they mimicked the warehouse Elder. ”Itʼs not a spell or a skill, just a gesture to ward off bad luck. What are your names, little ones?”

”{I am Tena, and this is Yewan. He doesnʼt usually talk to people, or come out in the sun.}”

Yewan shrugged. It was bright out here, and there were too many people. But he needed to know who tried to fight with Thor. His affinity for death said that it was a serious fight, and not just practice like their standard daytime sparring sessions, where nobodyʼs barriers usually broke.

He climbed up Thorʼs leg, as it was easier than flying, and settled on the big manʼs shoulder to wait for the explanation.

That left Tena with an issue. She didnʼt want a stranger touching her, but Min was already holding a cat.

Karlʼs turn it was.

Elder Douglas smiled as the hatchlings instinctively found a stronger person to hold them while they napped. As much as they didnʼt want to admit it, both of them were tired from their exertion. It was a long trip down here from the top of the hill, and they had flown most of the distance.

”Alright, I see what the issue is here.

Youʼve got a Shaman to introduce to the Clan, and then youʼre going to have at least a dozen more new Immortals in the next year or so. Thatʼs bound to raise some suspicions, no matter how we look at it.

They all know each other, and since we usually pick them one at a time from the Mortal Worlds, there are very rarely pairs like Karl and Dana who know

each other.

That many all from one place is going to raise questions about what sort of Mortal World can produce so many Immortals, and how to get to it. More than a few of the Clan members will want to explore where the new members came

from.

Mostly to see what sort of resources it has.

And it wonʼt be difficult to sense the lingering Mortal World energy on them.

So, you can either keep them in here for some time after they advance, or we come up with an excuse that everyone is going to stick to. Thatʼs Elder Forshamʼs jurisdiction, so itʼs good that we brought him with us.”

Then he looked into the distance, where Elder Socrate and Remi were

discussing magical plants.

Bringing that one hadnʼt helped anything.

Remi disagreed. He knew all sorts of things about the plants that she had

recovered from their most recent trip, and she hadnʼt planted all the ones in the Tiny World in the optimal locations.

They had been in poor shape when she got them, so she had nothing to refer to. But the Elder had memorized nearly every sort of magical plant that might possibly be useful to an Alchemist, and all their known mutations.
