Chapter 684: They Chose This

They were the Sinsworn Valkyries of the Paragon of Sin. Women who had chosen their man and meant it with every fiber of every oath.

Fighters who had bled alongside him, starved alongside him, nearly died alongside him many times over. They had watched their lover be mocked, obstructed, stalked, and denied by people who couldn’t beat him fairly and refused to let him grow.

They had been told to sit down, to farm their bracket like good little rookies and accept that a man who’d never faced them honestly - the man who DARED make the love of their lives miserable?

Magnus thought he had the right to dictate their ceiling?

Magnus thought he had the right to dictate their lives?

Magnus thought he had the right to do this to the son he rejected?

UNACCEPTABLE!

This could not be allowed.

No one was allowed to treat them like this. No one was allowed to treat HIM like this.

So they stopped asking for permission. Stopped flinching at the screams, stopped caring whether the lightning chained through chitin or human skin. The bodies below were points, because that was what the people down there had reduced them to - a point total to be suppressed. A number to be managed. A threat to be starved.

The Valkyries answered in kind.

...

”HELL YES!” Leia screamed so loud her mic distorted. ”YES! KILL THEM! KILL ALL OF THEM!”

”Wait-” Sarah started, ”they’re hitting the fighters too, that’s-”

”OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!” Emilia shrieked.

Sarah’s mouth snapped shut.

She stared at her tablet. At Emilia’s name on the call. At the sweet, kind, soft-spoken girl who moderated chat disputes with gentle redirections and apologized when she had to time someone out.

Emilia, who had just screamed for decapitation with the conviction of a woman placing a dinner order.

Leia cackled. ”There she is. There’s my girl. THAT’S the energy!”

”They deserve it!” Emilia’s voice was shaking, tears and fury and joy braided together into a sound Sarah had never heard from her before. ”Every single one of them! They hunted him! They mocked him! They stole everything he worked for and LAUGHED, and now he’s showing them what happens! He’s showing ALL of them!”

”Em, he might actually get in trouble for this,” Sarah said, because someone had to say it.

”GOOD!” Emilia fired back. ”Let them try! Let the Association come! Let them send every official they have! He’ll blast them too!”

”She’s fully feral,” Leia noted with admiration. ”I love it.”

Sarah looked at her chat.

The stream chat had gone beyond any speed she’d ever witnessed. It wasn’t scrolling anymore, it was hemorrhaging, messages appearing and vanishing so fast that reading individual comments required pausing the feed. But she didn’t need to read them individually. The sentiment was a wave, and waves didn’t need to be read word by word.

She opened the moderator overlay out of professional habit. The filter was catching hundreds of messages per second, most of them fine, just loud. The ones that weren’t fine were creative enough to be impressive.

Through the chaos, certain messages caught her eye. Regular viewers. Names she recognized from months of moderating. The kinds of fans who showed up every stream, who’d been there since the early days.

— KaidensBlade99: The Blood Knight just aired out an entire basin. with his girls. On STREAM!

— ValkyrieStan: Luna just fried that girl through a puddle of blood. I love her.

— xXSinswornForeverXx: They spent days stealing his kills and now they’re running for their lives. Beautiful!

— NyxMommyCult: Nyx dropping BOULDERS on their heads while saying ”let me help you” is the most psychotic thing I’ve ever seen on a stream. I’m in love.

— BloodKnight_Loyal: What did they THINK was going to happen?? You corner a man who fights monsters 30 levels above him for fun and expect him to just take it???

— StormGremlin: They called her man a fag on live television and now she is electrocuting them. Poetry in motion, ladies and gentlemen.

The messages blurred together, individual voices merging into a collective roar that hadn’t found its shape yet. Hundreds of thousands of people screaming different versions of the same feeling, joy and fury and vindication and bloodlust, all of it pouring through the chat in a torrent that no moderator on earth could have organized.

Then Emilia typed three words.

— [MOD] Kaiden’s Wife: they chose this.

It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t capitalized. It sat in the chat for less than a second before the scroll carried it upward and out of sight, buried under a hundred messages that were longer and louder and more creative.

But someone saw it.

— NyxMommyCult: they chose this

— StormGremlin: THEY CHOSE THIS

Then ten people saw it.

— BloodKnight_Loyal: they chose this

— xXSinswornForeverXx: they chose this

— BastetSimp_Official: they chose this

— ValkyrieStan: THEY CHOSE THIS

— KaidensBlade99: they chose this

Then a hundred.

The chat shifted. The wall of noise that had been a thousand different screams began to condense, the way a crowd of strangers at a stadium found the same clap at the same tempo without anyone conducting. One phrase, repeating. Scrolling. Filling the feed from edge to edge in a column of identical text that moved so fast it stopped looking like individual messages and started looking like a single, living thing.

THEY CHOSE THIS

THEY CHOSE THIS

THEY CHOSE THIS

THEY CHOSE THIS

Sarah watched it happen from the moderator overlay. She’d seen chat trends before. She’d seen copypastas and meme spam and viral moments that briefly unified the audience around a joke or a hype play.

This was different. This wasn’t comedy. This wasn’t hype. This was a verdict delivered by hundreds of thousands of strangers who had watched a good man get hunted for days and had finally, finally found a way to stop feeling helpless about it.

They chose this.

New Dawn chose to stalk him.

Ash chose to steal his kills.

Chinedu chose to wave like they were friends while suffocating his growth.

New Dawn chose to send its entire rookie operation to crush a fifth-place team that had done nothing but fight hard and stream honest.

They chose this.

And now the Paragon of Sin, his Sinsworn Valkyries, and his monster girl lovers were showing them what that choice cost.

The phrase crossed language barriers. Viewers from Seoul typed it in English because the English was the point. Viewers from São Paulo copied it letter for letter. The German contingent, the Japanese contingent, the French fans, all of them typing the same three words in the same language because the chat had become a single voice and that voice spoke in the tongue of the man they were watching.

THEY CHOSE THIS

A million concurrent viewers.

The number had crossed seven figures during the bombardment and it was still climbing, because the clips were already spreading and every clip brought more eyes and every pair of eyes found the same feed and the same chat and the same three words scrolling like a heartbeat.

Leia was laughing. Actually laughing, the unhinged cackle of a woman watching the world agree with her in real time. ”Em. Emilia. You just started a fucking movement.”

Emilia didn’t respond.

Sarah checked the call. Still connected. Emilia’s mic was live, and through it, very faintly, she could hear the sound of someone crying.

”Em?”

A sniffle. Then a wet, shaky laugh.

”They chose this,” Emilia whispered. ”And he’s making them pay for it.”

On stream, Kaiden Grey stood on the ridge with his girls around him, arcane sigils spiraling into existence around his forearm, and looked down at the basin where his enemies bled and died.

A million people watched.

A million people chanted.

THEY.

CHOSE.

THIS.
