Chapter 632: Incredible Progress

Alexandra gasped. Her hands hovered in the tight space between their chests for a moment as if she didn’t know what to do with them. ”What... what are you...”

Kaiden didn’t answer. He just held her. His arms were firm and grounding as he rested his chin on top of her head.

Alexandra’s breathing hitched. Then again.

Her hands slowly came up to clutch at his back, and she buried her face in his chest as the sobs finally broke free. Truly broke free, this time.

They were ugly and raw and full of years of pain she’d kept locked away.

Nyx looked at the scene with her own eyes glistening. Many girls were the same. Even the gamer girl with a foul mouth found herself overwhelmed by raw emotion. Hell, even Bastet, the graceful, elegant tanned kitten of the desert, cleared a rogue tear from her eyes and looked away as if annoyed at herself for the display.

Kaiden’s hug tightened around Alexandra, and she began staining his shirt with her tears, but he didn’t pull away.

Instead, he held her close and tight as if she were far too fragile and might break at any moment. When he spoke, his voice was firm and carried the kind of conviction that left no room for doubt.

”You are a fantastic person, Alexandra.”

Alexandra shuddered against him.

”You’ve been made to believe everything is a transaction of equal exchange,” Kaiden continued while stroking her lush blonde hair gently. ”That the food you eat must be repaid at equal value, or you’ll be indebted. And your past has ensured you believe that being in debt to someone is the worst possible outcome because debt can be weaponized in the cruelest of ways against you. You feel like you must make things right before the collectors come knocking and demand their portion.”

Alexandra’s sobbing intensified because she realized that he understood her better than she did herself. He actually understood.

”Alexandra...” Kaiden whispered. ”There will be no collectors. Not this time.”

He kept stroking her hair with careful tenderness. ”The only thing we’ll collect from you is your bright smile, whenever you’re willing to offer it. Our ’contract’ has no due date, no clauses, and no penalty for being late. There’s no fine print waiting to trap you. You’re safe here.”

Alexandra’s hands tightened around him, and her sobbing increased. ”I don’t deserve this...” she choked out between tears.

Kaiden chuckled suddenly. The sound was warm and full of affection. ”In this cruel world, might makes right. Just ask my mother if you want a lengthy lecture about it. So until you can beat me to a pulp, you’ll have to live under my terrible tyranny and accept my rules even if you think they make no sense, I’m afraid.”

Alexandra choked out a giggle despite herself. The sound was wet and broken but genuine. ”Is it truly okay...?”

Kaiden pulled back just enough to look her in the eyes. His expression was utterly serious. ”Yes. It is okay. But I will not accept anything less than genuine heartfelt joy coming from the very depths of your core as ’repayment.’That is the only term present in our ’contract.’ Is that understood? Delivering half-hearted smiles is not accepted. Your end of the deal will not be considered fulfilled until you truly mean it.”

”...” Alexandra cleared her eyes with the back of her hand, though even after the motion, they were still red and puffy. She looked sheepish as she nodded. ”Okay... I understand.”

Then she gasped when she saw his ruined shirt. The fabric was dark with moisture, and her makeup had left visible stains. She reached frantically for a tissue from her small purse. ”Your shirt!”

Kaiden refused and gently pushed her hand toward her own face. ”Clear your face first.”

Alexandra paused, and then something shifted in her expression. A tiny spark of defiance appeared in her crystal blue eyes. ”The best masters are those who listen to the instructions of their maids when it comes to a select few topics...”

Kaiden blinked.

Then he chuckled warmly and raised his hands in mock surrender. ”Okay. You win.”

Alexandra entered dutiful maid mode immediately.

Her hands moved with practiced efficiency as she began dabbing at the stained fabric while murmuring to herself. ”Enzyme-based detergent should work for the makeup... cold water rinse first to prevent setting... maybe a gentle stain remover for the darker spots... I’ll need to check if it’s cotton or a blend before I use anything too harsh...”

Her fingers worked carefully over the fabric, and her brow furrowed in concentration. She looked completely absorbed in her task with that professional focus that only came from someone who genuinely cared about doing things right. There was an endearing dedication to the way she handled even this small job.

Calypso suddenly spoke up.

The red-skinned demoness was the only girl from Kaiden’s harem who hadn’t shed tears at the scene. Instead, she grinned and mused aloud, ”Is it just me, or did our cute and adorable little maid, who was so afraid of men that she felt extremely uncomfortable to even be in Kai’s presence, let alone touch him, just hug him for a long moment? And she even returned the gesture so tightly. Look at her even now, cleaning his shirt so dutifully... Is this not a giant development?”

Aria and Luna gasped together. ”You’re right!”

Bastet whispered with genuine surprise in her voice, ”Right... I can’t believe I didn’t notice... This is big news!”

”Blondie bestie, you’re amazing!” Nyx cheered.

Alexandra’s face turned bright red as she realized what had just happened. Her hands stilled on Kaiden’s shirt, and she looked down bashfully. ”I was overcome with emotion... surely...” she murmured.

But she continued cleaning his shirt despite her embarrassment and snuck a timid little glance at him. The look was uncertain and truly fragile, waiting to see how he’d react.

Kaiden answered her inquiry with a proud grin. ”Not just that. Your claim of not making progress isn’t true to begin with. Coming here today was a feat in itself. Walking close enough to listen to their voices was another feat. You made immense progress today, Alexandra.”

Alexandra’s eyes widened, and she looked up at him fully. ”You truly think so...?”

”Of course,” Kaiden nodded with a steady smile.

A moment passed. Then Alexandra looked down again with her cheeks still pink. ”Then I’ll accept the words of my tyrant.”

”Bruh. This chick is ignoring us and listening to Kai only,” Luna groaned.

”Yeah, bestie, not cool!” Nyx stomped her foot. ”I spent so much time telling you basically the same things, but you were like ’no, no I’m a failure I don’t deserve to breathe oxygen’ and all that, but when Kaiden says the same things as I had, you’re accepting it with a cute blush?”

”I don’t have a cute blush!” Alexandra snapped while blushing cutely.

”Yeah... sure...” Nyx said dryly with a knowing smirk.

Alexandra decided to ignore the noise as she looked at Kaiden, and her expression turned apologetic. ”My apologies, master... I can’t get the stains out of your shirt without proper tools.”

”It’s okay. We’re going to eat a meal at a nice restaurant. Wanna come with?” Kaiden asked relaxedly.

”Restaurant...?” Alexandra gasped and immediately returned to her defensive mode. Her shoulders tensed. ”I-I can’t... I’ll be recognized for sure...”

”We’ll rent a private booth. You can even wear a mask to get inside. How about it? No pressure, though. You can wait here or return, whatever you want.”

Alexandra pondered for a moment. Her fingers fidgeted with the fabric of her dress before she finally smiled sheepishly and nodded. ”I’ll come... but you must protect me, okay...? A tyrant has to protect his loyal inner circle, or he’ll be toppled from the inside...”

”I sense a nasty kink developing here,” Luna chimed in.

”It’s obvious,” Nyx purred.

”Blondie bestie has nice taste. Being dommed into oblivion by Kai is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It’ll make anyone appreciate being born a woman~” Calypso grinned wickedly.

”N-no! Shut up, all of you!” Alexandra snapped, her face turning an even deeper shade of red.

”Feisty~” Bastet purred with clear amusement.

The girls laughed together, and even Alexandra couldn’t help the tiny smile that tugged at her lips despite her embarrassment.

Just like this, it was time to make their journey into the city!
