Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 724: Small Talk, Linghui Entertainmentʼs New Project Launches!

This envy stayed with him through the evening dinner.

Xiao He barely had an appetite while eating.

That, in turn, made Shu Han look even more jubilant.

”Come on, I hope everyone can finish their work early!”

Shu Han raised his glass and took a small sip. Everyone else raised their glasses in agreement. After Liu Rulan put down her cup, she curiously asked Shu Hanʼs agent He Wenming at her side, ”By the way, donʼt you have any projects lined up next? Are you planning to take a break?”

He Wenming smiled and nodded, ”Shu Han has been working very hard lately, so when we go abroad for events next month, we plan to rest for a while on the side—oh right, I heard Old Maʼs team started a new production, and they called Shu Han to cameo a role that only appears for a few minutes. The exact schedule isnʼt set yet. Weʼre thinking of arranging a variety show for Shu Han depending on circumstances, so he can record while waiting for their shooting.”

Liu Rulan understood, ”Youʼre talking about Old Maʼs Jade Fragrance Epitaph, right?”

That Old Ma, of course, refers to producer Ma Qianyou, whose life has been getting smoother and smoother since joining Linghui Entertainment.

Right now Ma Qianyou is involved in many of Linghui Entertainmentʼs projects, and whether it was really like the fortune-teller said—his fate aligning well with Xiao He and Xiao Heʼs company—his usually sullen face has been followed by several successful productions that have kept turning a profit.

This upcoming costume drama produced by Linghui Entertainment, Jade Fragrance Epitaph, is another collaboration between him and Linghuiʼs artist Pan Yuerou.
Linghui Entertainment has been signing artists one after another; most of them are still relative unknowns, actors contracted in advance for Linghuiʼs in-house projects. Counting that way, Pan Yuerou—who joined after Xiao He and Shu Han—actually qualifies as one of the companyʼs more veteran artists and has achieved quite good results.

Riding on her breakout hit Imperial Decree, Pan Yuerou debuted with some fame. Even though she later stepped back to focus on school and hone her acting after her initial explosion, her return has seen steady development. She has participated in several works and even managed to snag some scenes in Super Spacetime Confrontation.

This new project, Jade Fragrance Epitaph, uses many of the original cast and crew from the Imperial Decree era.

After more than a year of growth and adjustment, that original team has matured, and Linghui Entertainment now has more capital and confidence to invest.

So after internal discussions, they directly gave Jade Fragrance Epitaph the companyʼs highest S+ production treatment and provided top-tier investment. It can be said this is one of the companyʼs most valued profit-making projects after Super Spacetime Confrontation.

This time they plan to replicate Imperial Decreeʼs success, filming a new costume drama that mixes family-household scheming with court intrigue.

Imperial Decree was palace intrigue, with the female lead mostly dealing with conflicts inside the harem, fighting other women in the palace and contending with the supreme authority on the throne. Jade Fragrance Epitaph expands the worldview, from internal household struggles to the deception on the court stage, centering on the female leadʼs revenge, romance, and trash-beating highlights to unfold a fresh story, again with Pan Yuerou as the female lead.

Pan Yuerou has grown; her acting is more mature, no longer the awkwardness of her Imperial Decree rookie days, which better fits the role this time.

The reason for inviting Shu Han to cameo is very simple—

”Youʼre going to be free around then anyway. This is such an important company project; as a shareholder you should come help out!”

Show your face a little, and boost Jade Fragrance Epitaphʼs heat.

This is helping make money! Making money! Nothing shameful about it!

As for why they didnʼt invite Xiao He, that reason was even simpler—

”Did you see how busy Xiao He is lately? When would he have time to cameo? If fans accused him of ignoring newcomers, what would happen? Our Jade Fragrance Epitaph is still just a baby!”

Yes, plain and straightforward.

But Xiao He really was too busy to care about their project, so when Jade Fragrance Epitaph recruited people, they automatically skipped their intensely driven boss.

When Xiao He heard Liu Rulan and He Wenming discussing the project, he didnʼt show much surprise.

He already knew about it. Besides, with Old Ma and Lin Cheng stationed at Linghui Entertainment, he could comfortably play the hands-off boss.

Shu Han, however, mentioned another matter to him.

”Be careful around the Jingyou Entertainment people on set recently. I keep feeling that guy with the surname Yun is still plotting something.”

Shu Han lowered his voice and warned Xiao He.

”Oh? Didnʼt he wrap last week?”

Xiao He, who had so many things going on he often forgot minor details, had already pushed that name out of his mind. Hearing it again, he frowned instinctively.

”Right, he wrapped that day, and you werenʼt there.”

Shu Han said, remembering the situation then, and couldnʼt help rubbing his arm. ”He even came over to ask about your schedule. When he heard you were shooting a commercial in the neighboring province that day, he looked really disappointed.”

Disappointed about what, no one knew.

Shu Han, resolutely aligned with Xiao He, had been on alert and silently observed Yun Ziqiʼs expression, filing the matter away mentally.

But a week had passed and Yun Ziqi hadnʼt done anything obvious. Even his newly hired agent didnʼt seem as formidable as expected and still hadnʼt scheduled new work or trips for Yun Ziqi.

Shu Han was puzzled by their twists and turns and could only remind Xiao He himself to pay attention.

Luckily, with Xiao He currently acting on set, Liu Rulan was watching him, which put his mind at ease.

”Mm, I know.” Xiao He nodded. ”But since I returned to the country, we havenʼt had much contact, not even collaborations, so I really canʼt think of what heʼd want from me.”

It couldnʼt be to make peace again, right?

Ha. After the Imperial Enterprise male lead incident, Xiao He was sure Yun Ziqi would never again be willing to be the one to back down and call a truce like last time. Each party would just mind their own business.

And thinking about Yun Familyʼs business with that authentic calligraphy made it even harder for Xiao He to keep peaceful relations with them.

So whatever Yun Ziqi intended, Xiao He didnʼt particularly care.

If he dared to act, Xiao He would strike back—that would be justified retaliation!

Yun Ziqi and his lot should bow to Director Chou; if Director Chou hadnʼt been making him work like a dog recently, he would have already...

”Ah, right!”

Xiao He suddenly remembered something, straightened up, and looked at the people around the table with a puzzled expression.

”Does anyone know what Screenwriter Qin has been up to recently?”

At that question, Liu Rulan and He Wenming both stopped their conversation and looked at Xiao He.

But then everyone looked at each other and shook their heads.

”No idea.”

Xiao He frowned.

That was strange.

Come to think of it, those producers who had been frequently seen at the Imperial Enterprise set also werenʼt around.

Had they all collectively disappeared?
