Chapter 339: Meeting Director Tanis’s Secretary

”Itʼs a work invitation from Director Tannis.”

After Liu Rulan said this, she calmly watched Xiao He, waiting for his reaction.

As expected, upon hearing this news, Xiao He immediately widened his eyes in excitement: ”Really? You mean the long-rumored ʼFast Speed Shadow 7ʼ?”

”Yes, and they think very highly of you. Although Director Tannis didnʼt come personally, he specifically sent his personal secretary to discuss the contract with us.”

”Looking at it this way, Qin Yuezhang is really going to be hopping mad.”

A clear look of schadenfreude appeared on Xiao Heʼs face.

Didnʼt Qin Yuezhang always think he stole his role?

Hehe, well now, this role was never Qin Yuezhangʼs to begin with!

This should have always belonged to him, Xiao He!

Thinking of this, Xiao He felt refreshed and invigorated, even feeling a bit eager: ”We must quietly spread this good news later, so that the people who should know can share in my joy.”
He was specifically pointing at Qin Yuezhang here.

Liu Rulan also smiled with her eyes: ”Donʼt worry, once the contract is confirmed, Iʼll make sure everyone shares in the happiness.”

”Hahaha, itʼs just a shame we canʼt see his furious expression.”

Xiao He sighed.

”But Iʼm very curious. Director Tannis must have noticed me during that last car race, right? Did he decide on me back then? Then why has it been so long since then, and he never came looking for me?”

This was a question Xiao He had harbored for a long time. Director Tannis wasnʼt his enemy, and he wouldnʼt deliberately pry into the directorʼs private computer files and secrets. So, Xiao He only roughly knew that the other party had indeed been hospitalized for a while and then stayed at home, but he didnʼt know if it was really as the online rumors claimed, that Director Tannis was already critically ill.

”Lin Cheng helped us ask about this too. That secretary said that during the race back then, Director Tannis did indeed want to invite you on the spot to participate in his sequel, but you all left in a hurry at the time, and they couldnʼt catch up. So, they planned to go back first and then send us the invitation through online channels.”

”However, after returning, Director Tannis fell ill, so the matter was temporarily put on hold. Later, when he was almost recovered, he got new inspiration and stayed at home to revise the script. As a result, it dragged on until now that he formally sent you the work invitation.”

Liu Rulan paused, then added proudly: ”And itʼs an invitation to directly act in the role, no audition required!”

Itʼs very difficult to get into a famous directorʼs production team, especially a foreign famous director, where the competitors are all yellow-skinned actors from around the world.

For Xiao He to receive a direct invitation from the director without an audition, despite never having networked or had direct contact with Director Tannis, is something that would shock many people if word got out.

And why did Director Tannis insist on revising the script before coming to them? Most likely because Xiao Heʼs appearance gave him more inspiration!

The parts of the script that were revised were probably the plot sections for the role Xiao He would play!

What does this mean? It means Xiao Heʼs role is definitely going to get more screen time!

”I really didnʼt expect one race to lead to so many things.”

Liu Rulan analyzed with a good mood: ”Although we offended a Qin Yuezhang, his fighting power is too weak. Instead, he ended up screwing over his own father and grandfather, and even his old company.”

”And we not only gained the second male lead role and investment share in ʼCangyue Calamity,ʼ but also got a script invitation from Director Tannis.”

”This is a profitable deal no matter how you calculate it!”

Enough to make her post on Moments for three days straight!

Xiao He glanced sideways at Liu Rulan: ”You were just complaining that I often attract petty people!”

Liu Rulan: ”Alright, alright, I canʼt be bothered to argue with you.”

She turned around, gesturing for Xiao He to follow: ”Come on, weʼve arranged a gathering tonight to treat them to a meal. After resting for the night, weʼll see them off tomorrow.”

”Theyʼre leaving so soon?”

Xiao He lifted his foot to follow Liu Rulanʼs steps.

”I was thinking of persuading them to stay longer.”

”Well, that secretary has other things to do.”

Liu Rulan was quite understanding. ”The fact that they came is already very good treatment.”

”Thatʼs true.”

Xiao He didnʼt say anything more.

That night, Xiao He and Liu Rulan went to meet that secretary named James.

James looked very young, with the very typical blond hair and blue eyes configuration. However, his aquiline nose was more prominent than the average foreignerʼs, making his facial features appear especially three-dimensional.

Although he was just Director Tannisʼs secretary, this manʼs every move exuded an air of nobility and elite style.

As soon as he saw Xiao He, he warmly stood up and shook Xiao Heʼs hand: ”Oh, Xiao, Iʼve finally met you! Itʼs a pleasure to meet you here!”

”Iʼm also very pleased to meet you.”

Xiao He smiled warmly and shook the otherʼs hand in return, his attitude very friendly.

Since both Xiao He and Liu Rulan could speak a foreign language, communication between the two sides wasnʼt difficult, and no additional translator was needed.

Although James seemed somewhat aloof, he was actually a person with a bit of humor when chatting. Speaking of the incident at the race that day, he even carried a hint of teasing.

”Actually, it was our mistake at the time too. We thought the champion team would definitely spend a long time dealing with media interviews, so we waited specifically. But we didnʼt expect that when we came out and asked, we found out you had already left. We asked around everywhere but couldnʼt find out where you went. So, in the end, we prepared to return to our country first and then contact you.”

”Itʼs just that Mr. Tannisʼs health wasnʼt very good during that period. He went back and stayed up late writing the script, and accidentally fell ill. It scared us so much we rushed him to the hospital.”

Speaking of the situation at the time, James let out a long sigh. Regarding Director Tannisʼs all-nighters, he was both worried and dissatisfied, but facing the stubborn old man, he had no way to deal with it.

”Fortunately, later I investigated Xiaoʼs information from when he was in China and found the works Xiao participated in while in China. Only then did Mr. Tannis finally not immediately get out of his sickbed.”

—Instead, he chose to lie in his sickbed and appreciate all of Xiao Heʼs past works.

After listening to Jamesʼs account, a look of concern and admiration also appeared on Xiao Heʼs face: ”As expected of Director Tannis, so immersed in his creation. But is his body okay? Health is the foundation of everything. He really should take care of his health.”

James shook his head with a helpless, bitter smile: ”Weʼve all tried to persuade him in various ways. Unfortunately, itʼs no use.”

Geniuses are always obsessive.

Especially this kind of old genius who has been famous for a long time and has countless honors to his name.

Once he starts revising the script, not even ten oxen can pull him back.

Seeing this, Xiao He felt it inappropriate to say anything more and could only continue expressing his concern for the old masterʼs health and his sincere well-wishes.

The meal was very pleasant. In the end, Xiao He and his group personally saw James off to the hotel entrance.
