D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad

Chapter 1739 The Ring Details

--- Kat ---

”Sooo… what sort of sizes should me dear friends be looking for?” said Sue doing her best attempt at seduction as they were walking to the next destination. Nel was leading the way and… well Sue was trying. It was sort of hard though because Nel was huge. Sue wasnʼt even half his height and so she looked more like a small child clinging onto Nelʼs legs. It was actually a bit funny to watch. It was flustering Nel at least.

”Oh… um… well… so there are a few different ʼtiersʼ of sizes when it comes to storage space. The lowest, or Tier 0 is for storing exactly one thing. Which is funny actually, because theyʼre almost always designed for holding a specific object. This means that if the object is large enough the Tier 0 size can actually be upwards of a planet sized storage space. Though… um… that doesnʼt mean itʼs easy. Not at all so itʼs mostly a technicality thing…

”After that is Tier 1 or um… purse size. When youʼre first starting out these are actually kinda hard to make. I mean, for artisanal version. You can pump them out with factory enchantments fairly quickly and once you get the hang of things a master can crank out a bunch in an afternoon… but the detailed work for them is just a pain. Oh, also despite being called ʼPurse Sizeʼ they can go up to about backpack size before stepping into the next rank.

”Which is Tier 2 or wardrobe size. Oh, um… so one more thing about the sizes is that technically theyʼre judged by if you can hold the object in question or not. So a purse sized storage ring can hold a purse, and a wardrobe sized one can hold a wardrobe. One of those small moveable ones you can put wherever not a walk in closet or something like that.

”After that you have room sized, Tier 3 which can extend up to three rooms. Though even if itʼs all still a ʼTier 3ʼ ring people tend to be specific about exactly how many rooms you can fit. If they donʼt brag about it? Probably just the one room. Which um… so I donʼt really know WHO weʼre going to see, just that I know where the guy is… so um… maybe keep that in mind? I really donʼt know,”

Nell shook his head as Sue leaned further into his leg getting awfully close to certain bits of anatomy that may or may not have been comfortable in tight pants. Nel continued as he fixed his stride to be a bit wider to keep Sue away, as she was stuck on the outside of his legs. ”Above that is Tier 4 and they come in house size or warehouse size. Theyʼre both considered tier 4 but the differences at this point can be huge. There are some warehouse sized ones that you can fit streets into.

”Tier 5 is called the portable town. Which… might be overly generous? Tier 5 covers a disgustingly large range from ʼbarely enough to fit a full streetʼ which some Tier 4 rings can do, all the way up to ʼyou could fit the whole town insideʼ type of sizes. Itʼs also the point at which the Tier system sort of breaks down.

”Cause Tier 6? Thatʼs PLANET sized and you donʼt really get people who sell those often if ever. Nobody really makes them because it just costs so much time and effort. Like… I donʼt know if you can appreciate what Iʼm saying but a Tier 6 ring is something that needs DECADES of investment by a single craftsmen to achieve.

”You canʼt take too many days off or it destabilizes. Canʼt get help because guess what? Destabilises. The ring itself for one of these? It has to be built in a secondary pocket dimension because you canʼt fit enough tiny engraved runes onto the surface of a ring even if you hollow out the centre and if that breaks down before you finish? Destabilizes.

”If you get sick and you sneeze at the wrong time? Destabilizes. You need to be in almost perfect health, constantly work on it and just… the effort required is astronomical. The only way Tier 6 rings get built is if someone has a special ability to help with the process and even then you just donʼt sell them because itʼs still decades of work. You want to keep that sort of things most of the time,”

Nel blushed as he realised heʼd sort of been ranting a bit. ”Sorry itʼs just… I love this sort of thing. Itʼs why I want to get into proper crafting and not just charging the runes for some of the smaller bags. So… Iʼm a bit passionate about it. Thatʼs not even getting into additional features those are just the different sizes and well… most people donʼt even know Tier 6 exists. Itʼs not like anyone can list the prices for it,”

”Question,” proposed Lily. Nel nodded and Lily took that as a sign to continue, ”You mentioned that machines can be used to help with small rings… why not have them help with the bigger rings?”

”Because they just canʼt,” said Nel. ”Or well, maybe if you had someone at like Rank 9 help build the machines you might be able to figure something out but thatʼs not really relevant. The big issue is that the rune work needs to be charged in a certain way. For the smaller bags you can just pump demonic energy and coat all the runes at once. Like… like just slapping a bit of tape on a leaky pipe instead of replacing the pipe.

”For small enough bags you can just slap a bunch of energy on there and the runes will take care of things. Youʼre essentially providing enough energy for the pocket dimension to grow to the correct size. For the bigger sizes though? They take way more demonic energy then anyone has in a given moment. Youʼve got to slowly feed the energy in…

”And you need to be drawing the runes at the same time. Iʼm not sure why myself, it hasnʼt come up in my studies but for a proper craftsman? You add runes and energy at the same time then sort of… tie it off? Keep it stable? The pocket space will shrink while left unattended if you leave it but for most sizes thatʼs fine. Itʼs only the big ones where youʼre taking so many breaks and still potentially losing ground. If you take too long drawing the rune you might lose progress, but if you go too fast you run out of energy and need to take a break… losing progress.

”You can sort of build in ʼstopping pointsʼ in your rune work to help stabilise things but thatʼs a bit more advanced and not everyone knows how to do it. I mean, I know how in theory but in practice itʼs a bit beyond me at the moment,” explained Nel.

Lily nodded along but Sue was soon ready with a follow up question and well… she seemed to be enjoying herself so neither Kat nor Lily wanted to but in too much when it was getting them good information. ”So what about features? What fancy features would you recommend?”

”Um… so there are a few different things that you want but some of them you only need one of. So… first is the ʼlistʼ enchantment where you add a sort of… mental tag to something when you put in into storage? Then you just think of that tag and pull the item out. The issue is that you tend to have a limited number of tags and you wonʼt know which version youʼre getting.

”So like… if you put in say… three sandwiches all tagged sandwich but one is beef, one is chicken and one is salad. It doesnʼt matter if you want a beef sandwich youʼll just get any sandwich. Unless you have the better version of the enchantment. Itʼs called the ʼtrue desireʼ enchantment but itʼs just a fancy name for working out what youʼre thinking and picking the right item.

”Problem is… thatʼs a lot harder to make and the poor quality ones are super slow to work out. Itʼs much easier to make a quick, snappy list enchantment then a true desire one. If you need a weapon right now… and it takes three or four seconds youʼre not going to be happy and some people have it as long as TEN. Which… well to my master thatʼs unacceptable.

”Obviously you only one want or the other. Um… you do usually want a ʼtime stopʼ enchantment because things experience time weirdly in storage rings and itʼs safer just to stop or mostly stop time moving. ʼTime stopʼ technically counts anything below one second passing for every day of real time. Which for a lot of people is good enough. So if thatʼs not good enough you might want to ask specifically about it.

”Other than that you can also…”
