D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad

Chapter 1610 Questions and Some Answers

--- Kat ---

Kat and Lily quickly decided, no they did not want to look further into the age and developmental rates of demons. That was something that they could go over with Kamiko or Nira whenever they wanted. Meg seemed chatty enough right now and any bit of information that revealed more of her character was quite important.

*So do you think this… ʼpurityʼ is more important then Meg is letting on? I mean she majorly hyped it up but… Iʼm thinking that perhaps her ability isnʼt weakness sense so much is it one for impurities?*

[What like a weakness is also an impurity? I could see it… the extra details she seems to get about weaknesses might support that reading… but I also doubt Meg would tell us. Sheʼs had plenty of chances to elaborate and even Hunter hasnʼt really dropped any hints. I think if we were ever going to find out the specifics we already wouldʼve.

Meg isnʼt too coy with anything else and Hunter did say giving out the specifics of your skills wasnʼt usual.]

*I can see why. I mean, if demons are all limited to a handful of major abilities knowing the inner workings of even one or two can be a big deal for combat… both physical and maybe political? I mean remember the Lust faction leader with the clones? Knowing how that works could be imperative for an investigation.*

”Aah, Iʼm feeling so left out. Iʼm here laying in your arms and yet your mind is on another woman,” said Meg with a put upon sigh.

Kat gave a dry look in response. ”Meg, considering that woman in my thoughts is my girlfriend I donʼt feel too bad about ignoring you despite the closer proximity. Though… I guess if youʼre going to open with that. Do you have anyone youʼve got your eye on romantically?”

”Nope,” said Meg easily.

*Huh… I mean… I wasnʼt sure if Hunter would count or not but the fact that she answered no is telling.*

[Yeah… but you said ʼgot your eye on romanticallyʼ and she could easily say ʼnopeʼ just because she doesnʼt currently have any eyes resting on Hunter. Itʼs a pretty basic loophole.]

*Woops. Um… wasnʼt really thinking about the phrasing. Quick, any other questions?*

[Favourite things sheʼs knit maybe? Her weapons are knitting needles after all.]

”What sort of things do you like to knit?” asked Kat before she could really think through Lilyʼs suggestion.

”Oh all sorts of things,” answered Meg. Kat beamed at Lily internally, apparently this was a decent question. ”I train with them mostly for combat but I do make a few things. Sometimes itʼs donations for children and stuff when I want to work on my knitting speed. Iʼve made a few quilts but let me tell you. Even with my speed?

Thatʼs a massive undertaking. It is NOT worth it at all,”

”Why is that?” asked Kat, mostly knowing the answer.

”Because itʼs simply a waste of time. If youʼre just making a throw, something to spruce up a room then thatʼs fine. One basic layer with some nice colours and a good pattern… but if you want it to keep anyone warm? Or be properly snuggly?” *Snuggly? Not really something Iʼd think Meg concerned with…* ”Then you have to spend considerable time on the layers.

Itʼs honestly better to just buy something unless youʼre doing it as a gift… and it better be one thatʼs going to be appreciated.

”I actually spent the time to make one for my parents once. When I did it was… in part a peace offering though not a particularly serious one because it was also a slap in the face. At the same time… I was still hoping theyʼd recognise the effort I put into it. Didnʼt even get a thank you for it.

Oh they sent me a gift in return, a rather nice hunting bow… but theyʼd just purchased that with money and my parents have enough of that,” grumbled Meg.

*Huh… thatʼs surprisingly sweet.* ”So you never did one of those again?” asked Kat.

”Nope. I did consider making some for my siblings, and also considered getting… well essentially making a quilt cover instead of a full quilt for keeping warm but I couldnʼt bring myself to do it. Felt too much like giving up or only doing half the job for my taste.

Now I mostly stick to smaller things for family, stuff that is more ʼhere you go I made somethingʼ which… Iʼm sure they consider a touch rude but without being on good terms with them I canʼt seem to bring myself to care,”

*Hmm… interesting. Do we want to ask more about Megʼs family?*

[I think so? Sheʼs only mentioned her parents before but apparently she has siblings?]

”Would you like to talk more about your siblings?” asked Kat. ”You mentioned not being fond of your parents but… you havenʼt mentioned siblings before now…”

”Eh thereʼs not much to say. I barely know them and they just… arenʼt all that successful. Didnʼt really get any talent and they are all a decent amount older then me. Mature enough to stand on their own but not ambitious enough to really do anything with their lives. I think one of them might be up for a proper name because of how long theyʼve been alive? Or maybe they already have one?

I really havenʼt kept track.

”Itʼs just… apathy really. I send them stuff occasionally because I donʼt hate them, and theyʼll send little things back. Food seems to be a favourite. Nothing homecooked though, so I donʼt exactly treat it as special. They… they just exist I guess? Iʼve met them, all older so far, and I have cousins and stuff… but once again mostly apathy.

”If they were more involved in my life I canʼt say if it wouldʼve been better. I simply do not know enough about them to say. I was more involved with my parents friends and there children, who I mostly dislike on account of them being my parents friends and children. A touch unfair, but once again not one I can really bring myself to care about.

I keep busy, mostly with a few regular contractors that summon me for bounty hunting work. I wouldnʼt say Iʼm friends with them, and I likely mess with them too much for them to think of me fondly but… hard to really build proper friendships if you just come in for the contract,”

*Not sure I agree with that. I mean… Iʼd say weʼre friends with a lot of people weʼve met during the contracts?*

[Yeah but we have very different contracts to Meg. At least thatʼs what I suspect. The tournament contract has us working with a tight nit group of people for a long time. You literally went inside Minor and Majorʼs head at one point. Megʼs relationship with her summoners is probably more like we have with the cultivation contractors. Both of them really.]

*Huh… I guess I could see that. Though… I was not particularly fond of Xiang after the first summoning. I do dislike him less after the second but yeah… definitely not a friend. I suppose if we had more contracts like those I could see how it would be hard to make friends. Though Iʼd also guess that Meg isnʼt really out looking.*

[Yeah itʼs weird she hasnʼt mentioned anyone except Hunter… and I wonder if thatʼs because she regularly pushes people away, if people stay away… or if thereʼs something more just… wrong with her? Like sheʼs mentally incapable of making friends. Her obsession with Hunter might be the closest thing she has.]

*Hmmm… surely thereʼs a therapist on Niraʼs level medically? I doubt itʼs something that couldnʼt be fixed…*

[Right… but what if Meg either declined to have it fixed or itʼs not really considered a problem? Demons come in a lot of shapes and sizes… so I could see them being accepting of them being mentally diverse as well. We call it a problem because we grew up on earth with human standards… but IS it a problem for a demon?]

*That… hmm… I guess it would come down to how much of what weʼve seen being the ʼfriendly faceʼ of things? I imagine their society couldnʼt function if too many demons were… crazy for lack of a better word.*

[Right and Iʼm not saying itʼd be a large percentage of the population but it might be a bit like how we treat gay people. That they donʼt exist, or that itʼs ok if they exist but ONLY over there… or maybe itʼs ok if they exist but I donʼt want to be involved? Or maybe just proper acceptance? It could be a range of things. I mean, most people arenʼt gay but itʼs not considered a PROBLEM.

At least, we donʼt.]

”Seems Iʼm a touch boring am I?” asked Meg all of a sudden and Kat shivered. She could now see Meg glaring at her. Perhaps sheʼd gotten a bit lost in that debate with Lily.
