Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1260: Awakeners With Their Own Cornerstones [1]

As Michael slowly recovered his energy, his thoughts naturally returned to the battle he had just experienced. To be honest, he had learned a lot. Still, Michael felt a faint sense of regret.

”Would’ve been better if it taught me something about my Law.”

That was the one area he had truly hoped to gain insight into. His Law was increasingly important to his strength. Echoed Bestowal had already proven itself capable of producing terrifying results, especially after Universal Pioneer’s boost. If the copy had shown him another application of this Law that he could use to create a skill, this fight would have been so much more fundamental to his growth.

But the reflection hadn’t really shown him anything fundamentally new there. Michael sighed.

”Can’t have everything.”

Besides, the battle had already been worth it if he considered the new application of Corpse Explosion. Still, there was also an issue with this method of self-explosion.

Michael looked down at his regenerated limbs. He still found the concept ridiculous. In this arena, where death and damage were erased after the match, the method had been almost perfectly safe. But doing the same outside was another matter entirely.

Unlike here, if something went wrong outside, there was no system protection. So Michael didn’t imagine himself casually blowing up his limbs every time he entered combat.

Maybe it could work as an emergency technique, since if he really had to use this method, it meant he was truly in dire straits. But it couldn’t be used as a regular fighting method.

Still... the skill itself had given him another idea.

Michael’s gaze slowly shifted to Beginning, who was standing nearby. The giant had already reduced his size considerably after the battle, but the violent aura around him hadn’t disappeared completely.

Beginning noticed Michael’s stare and turned to look at him. For several seconds, master and undead simply looked at each other.

Something shifted behind Michael’s eyes.

”...You.”

A spark of interest crossed his expression. If there was anyone Corpse Explosion could work absurdly well with, it was Beginning. His Law of Brutal Rebirth was already built around destruction and reconstruction. Beginning could literally destroy his own body repeatedly and return stronger.

His thoughts accelerated. Excitement crept into his expression.

What if Beginning, at the peak of his power, allowed part of himself to die, then detonated that portion through Corpse Explosion while simultaneously using Brutal Rebirth?

The destruction would be far greater than anything he could personally output. This was due to the difference in mass, size, weight, and actual strength.

One had to understand Rank Four existences could reach destructive power comparable to nuclear weapons, while the most exceptional among them could go far beyond that. A modern nuclear bomb was terrifying because of the amount of destruction it released in one instant. A Rank Four supernatural was different, since they could move, think, and adapt.

And most importantly, they could repeatedly release attacks at that level. Beginning was exceptional even among Rank Fours. At the peak of Brutal Rebirth, he had already pushed his combat prowess across the boundary and into the level of a Demigod.

His fighting method, however, remained comparatively simple. There wasn’t much subtlety to it.

But now, thinking of the new application of Corpse Explosion, if he were to teach Beginning this skill, what would happen if a hundred-metre-tall giant used its arm as a bomb?

Michael felt a chill run down his back.

”...That’s ridiculous.”

His own arm had produced a respectable explosion, but compared to Beginning, he didn’t have the mass, size, or strength. Beginning’s arm at one hundred meters tall would contain an absurd amount of power.

Thinking about the future made Michael increasingly excited. Fortunately, the arena had not forced him out right after the match ended. He still had nearly three hours remaining.

Michael did not waste the opportunity. For the next three hours, he seriously trained Beginning to the fullest extent he could manage.

Meanwhile, outside the arena, the Fourth Layer had still not calmed down. If anything, the attention surrounding Michael had only intensified.

One had to understand what the Top 1000 Battlefield Ranking represented. The Fourth Layer was meant for Rank Four Awakeners. Among the upper portions of that ranking, especially the Top 300, every Awakener was Level 100.

The peak of Rank Four. Each one stood only a single major advancement away from becoming Rank Five.

This list would have been considered normal if Michael Norman didn’t exist. During the previous opening of the Origin Battlefield, there had already been one name that looked completely wrong among them.

A Level 75 Awakener had somehow appeared in the Fourth Layer among Awakeners a full Rank above him. That alone had drawn attention.

But now the Origin Battlefield had reopened. And in only a short period of time, that same Level 75 Awakener had climbed all the way to Rank 11.

The sight was almost offensive to the eyes. Within the entire Top 100, Michael was the only one not at Level 100. Every other name belonged to a Peak Rank Four Awakener.

Michael stood among them as a Level 75, Rank Three Awakener. And he was not near the bottom, but at the very top, with only ten people above him.

What did this mean?

Many powerful Awakeners had reached the same conclusion Michael himself had suspected earlier: there was a point within the rankings where one needed power that crossed the normal boundary of Rank Four to stay there.

Demigod-level combat prowess. This made Michael’s position far more shocking.

If Rank 11 required Demigod-level combat power, then didn’t that mean a Level 75 Rank Three Awakener possessed Demigod-level strength?

Those who had already investigated Michael became even more cautious. For those who knew almost nothing about Michael, the conclusion was still largely the same: this person truly wasn’t simple, not with all the chaos he’d been causing lately.

It felt to them as though the universe itself no longer seemed normal.

For three days, the heat continued. Michael himself spent those days peacefully, and nothing particularly serious happened.

It was only on the fourth day that something changed.
