Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1098: So This Is How To Play Necromancer? [1]

”This is actually my first time dealing with an awakener who uses undead creatures too. I wonder what class he has. Necromancer? Dark Knight? Something else?”

Unfortunately, though he was curious, Michael couldnʼt use Detect on the fellow.

Though oneʼs abilities and skills grew stronger as they advanced in rank, his current distance exceeded the range of Detect, and he didnʼt dare move closer in case the other party dragged him into their domain.

Though a domain involved entering a separate layer of space, Michael didnʼt think the Origin Battlefield, especially at the Fourth Layer, would restrict awakeners from using one.

This was different from when he had fought the royal family of the Black Serpent Empire.

Back then, thanks to his combat prowess, they hadnʼt known he wasnʼt actually at their rank and couldnʼt use a domain against him. But in the Origin Battlefield, oneʼs level was already out in the open. He wouldnʼt expect peak Rank Four supernaturals to not use every advantage available when needed.

Keeping his distance was the wiser decision for now. In any case, once they started fighting, he would figure out the other partyʼs fighting style soon enough.

Besides, one should always be careful about judging an awakener purely by their class. Who could one blame if someone with a Mage class fought like a Knight?

The moment he saw the colossal skeletal dragon, he immediately activated one of his engravings and summoned his undead High Drake.

A deafening roar split the Deathfrost Rainlands as a massive draconic figure burst into existence above Michael.

Unlike the skeletal dragon in the distance, the High Drake still possessed most of its flesh. Reddish scales covered its enormous body.

Death Energy leaked continuously from it, and its green eyes immediately locked onto the distant bone dragon.

At almost the exact same moment, the armored man standing atop the skeletal dragon had moved as well.

The bone dragon let out a thunderous roar before beating its enormous wings.

BOOM!

The mountain beneath it cracked as the gigantic creature launched itself into the air. Its rider remained standing calmly atop its skull, showing no intention of hiding behind his mount.

Michaelʼs High Drake answered with a roar of its own.

The two draconic creatures accelerated toward one another through the freezing rain. The distance between them rapidly disappeared.

Five kilometers. Four. Three.

Neither side slowed. The surrounding air trembled beneath the pressure radiating from the two flying monsters.

Although his High Drake wasnʼt currently receiving the amplification from his law skill, that hardly meant it was weak. Its base strength alone already surpassed the overwhelming majority of peak Rank Four supernaturals.

The two dragons opened their jaws almost simultaneously. Energy gathered violently. The bone dragonʼs throat filled with blue radiance. Michaelʼs High Drake condensed dense red fiery energy that mixed with the surrounding Yin Cold, forming a sphere so compressed that the nearby rain evaporated before touching it.

The two riders watched silently.

Then—

ROOOAAARRR!!

BOOM!

Twin dragon breaths erupted across the battlefield. The blue torrent from the skeletal dragon tore through the sky like a river of ghostly fire.

Michaelʼs High Drake answered with an immense pillar of red destructive energy. The two attacks collided midway between the dragons.

The world exploded.

An enormous shockwave swept across the frozen landscape, scattering gray mist for kilometers as black rain was blown completely away from the collision point.

The clash continued for several long seconds.

Neither dragon gave ground. Blue flames devoured red fiery energy while the undead High Drakeʼs dragon breath steadily eroded the ghostly fire with overwhelming density.

Below them, entire sections of the dead forest were flattened by the pressure alone.

The very first exchange of the battle had already reached a level capable of annihilating ordinary Rank Four awakeners.

However, both Michael and Varek knew this was nothing more than a warm-up. Dragon Breath was devastating, but it was also the most straightforward method of testing an opponentʼs strength.

Neither of them had expected the exchange to decide the battle.

The instant the two torrents of energy dispersed into the freezing rain, both dragons beat their wings and separated, creating several hundred meters of distance between themselves.

Varek moved first.

Standing atop the skull of his skeletal dragon, he slowly brought both palms together. An enormous quantity of energy surged toward him. The air trembled.

One after another, pitch-black magic circles bloomed across the sky.

Ten. Twenty. Fifty. One hundred.

Their sizes varied dramatically. Some were barely a meter across, while others exceeded twenty meters in diameter, rotating slowly above the battlefield like gateways into another world.

The next moment, countless razor-sharp tips seemingly made from bone slowly emerged from within the circles.

Some were no larger than ordinary javelins. Others were colossal, each exceeding thirty meters in length, resembling gigantic lances capable of piercing mountains.

The freezing rain rattled against the countless white spears as they continued emerging from the arrays.

”…”

Michaelʼs eyebrows rose in genuine surprise.

”I know this skill!”

He was genuinely surprised, not simply because of the sheer scale, but because this was one of the undead skills he possessed himself.

Bone Spear.

Granted, the version before him was obviously many times stronger than the one Michael currently wielded.

After all, Varek was a genuine peak Rank Four awakener who had likely spent years adding his own modifications to the spell, perfecting it for his own use.

Michael smiled as a slightly crazy idea came to him.

Ever since suspecting the other party might be a Necromancer, even knowing the other party was a Level 100 awakener, this was the first time Michael had come across an awakener like himself.

He couldnʼt help but want to see how such a person fought, and whether there was anything worth learning from them.

”If thatʼs what you want…”

”Then letʼs compare.”

Michaelʼs energy erupted outward.

Unlike Varek, Michael didnʼt possess a Level 100 status. But there was one thing he had absolute confidence in.

His mana reserves.
