Chapter 148 8 into 4Xining Municipal Bureau.

Inside the conference room.

”The competition begins tomorrow.”

”Yet the case still isn’t ready.”

”How is this any different from going to an exam hall without an exam paper?”

Chen Weimin, sitting at the head of the table, looked displeased as he roared at the people below.

Everyone who could sit in this conference room was at least a Police Inspector.

And Chen Weimin was a Third-Class Police Superintendent, as well as the Chief of the Municipal Bureau.

If they didn’t have the case ready by tomorrow, they would undoubtedly become the laughingstock of the police force.

”Whoever chose the case this time, go accept your punishment afterward!”

Chen Weimin said coldly.

For a moment, the conference room was deathly silent.

The case was supposed to be selected by the subordinates.

After they selected it, he would review it and then submit it to the higher-level leadership department.

Everything had been fine in the beginning.

But after the competition started, a big problem arose!

Once the selected case was solved, it would conflict with a portion of public opinion.

This would run contrary to the purpose of this competition.

Therefore, the selected case absolutely could not be used.

But!

How could it be easy to find a case on short notice that the public knew about but still held a grudge over?

As the saying goes, there are plenty of cases, but none that truly meet the requirements.

”Let’s not talk about other matters; all the contestants have already arrived in Xining and are staying at the hotel across the street.”

”Trouble you to tell me, what should we do tomorrow!”

He crossed his hands and asked again.

”There is no other good solution at the moment; we can only choose a similar one to use.”

Using a similar one meant exactly what it said: it didn’t need to be widely known by the public, nor did the case need to be overly complex.

For example, if the case that met the requirements was A, then use B, which was one level lower.

This was at least a remedial measure.

But afterward, Chen Weimin would certainly be questioned.

Why things weren’t done according to the requirements.

”Are there any other methods?”

Chen Weimin wasn’t afraid of taking responsibility, but he was only willing to do so if there was no other choice.

He wasn’t happy about taking the blame for nothing.

As soon as he finished speaking, he saw that no one below said a word.

He took a long breath and then exhaled.

”It is now nine o’clock in the evening. If you can’t think of a better solution by six o’clock tomorrow morning, we will do as you suggested!”

”Dismissed.”

He stood up and left directly.

...

On the other side.

Inside a hotel fifty meters away from the Municipal Bureau.

Everyone put their belongings back into their respective rooms.

Then they came to Instructor Yang’s room to report.

”The main reason I called you here is to understand the situation of our opponents.”

”Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated!”

As he spoke, he divided the documents in his hand into five copies and distributed them one by one.

”Regarding the information on these people, there are two things I want to talk about.”

”The first is their past track record, and the second is their abilities.”

Seeing that everyone had started reading, he began his narration.

”Let’s start with the team from Nuanyang Province. The captain’s name is Nie Feng, 25 years old. He has been in the police force for three years. One week after joining, he solved the 711 Serial Murder Case and was immediately confirmed as a permanent employee.”

”In the time since, he has successively solved more than thirty homicide cases, big and small. On average, he solves one major case a month.”

”It sounds like a small number, right? But most of these cases are cold cases.”

Chen Mo nodded silently; the difficulty of solving cold cases is far higher than that of recently occurred cases.

There are actually many reasons, but the one the public is familiar with is the lack of evidence.

As time passes, the natural environment causes existing evidence to gradually disappear.

For another example, after many years, the criminal suspect might have changed their name and surname, and reintegrated into society with a new identity.

These are just things said in conversation; actually investigating them in reality is far more difficult than imagined.

This was also the reason Chen Mo nodded immediately upon hearing that they were all cold cases.

This person is undoubtedly an expert.

”This person is very skilled in Criminal Psychology; he seems to know the psychology of criminals like the back of his hand.”

”This person is very strong.”

After Yang Jianguo finished speaking, he took a sip of water, giving everyone a moment to digest the information.

”It sounds like this person is very formidable.”

Sun Yi’s face showed worry.

This was much stronger than when she heard about Xu Lingyun and Li Yun before.

”Don’t panic, we have an expert on our team too.”

Wu Tian’s words naturally referred to Chen Mo.

”That’s true.”

Sun Yi’s worried expression instantly relaxed.

Seeing this scene made Chen Mo feel very helpless.

So they’ve basically decided that he’s the invincible one, right?

However, he really wasn’t too worried.

Because Chen Mo had discovered that this type of genius had a common flaw.

That is, a single ability, when pulled out, is exceptionally powerful.

But other abilities are very weak.

This leads to the situation where, if their teammates aren’t capable, in many cases, their abilities cannot be fully utilized.

This also served as a reminder to Chen Mo.

Abilities should be balanced; you can’t have one exceptionally high and others exceptionally low.

A balanced ability set is the strongest path.

”Alright, let’s talk about Qian Lei from Ruihe Province. This person is generally older than all of you; he should be the oldest among the contestants.”

”I won’t mention the cases he has solved, because that’s not the focus.”

”His ability is somewhat special; he is very proficient in Criminal Profiling.”

Criminal Profiling?

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone revealed expressions of surprise.

They had heard of this ability, but even as criminal police, they rarely saw it.

Or rather, they had never seen it at all.

Criminal Profiling often requires a large amount of frontline experience for support.

Based on the situation at the crime scene, one reconstructs the portrait of the perpetrator step by step.

”Wow, this one is even more formidable!”

Sun Yi’s mouth couldn’t help but open wide.

Not only her, but even Chen Mo felt that he had encountered a real opponent.

Criminal Profiling—this skill was something he would also occasionally use his extra melon points to upgrade.

But as mentioned before, this skill is very dependent on criminal investigation experience.

Therefore, the melon points thrown into it basically had no return in the early stages.

It was even more like a bottomless pit.

Because it was completely unclear what level Criminal Profiling needed to be to unleash its proper capability.

It was precisely because of this that he became interested in this Qian Lei.

It was also the first time he felt a slight pressure.

This person’s strength is definitely not ordinary.

The consequence of underestimating an opponent is elimination.

He would not commit such a low-level mistake.

”I have already explained the situation clearly; the competition officially begins tomorrow.”

”Everyone, get some rest early.”
