Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

184: Chapter 184 Merit and Karma”Are you angry?”

Lin Sheng waved his hand, casually disposing of this Transcendent Seventh Tier Shopkeeper.

Lin Sheng’s movements were slow; Yeros had the ability and the desire to stop him, but in the end, she didn’t act.

For Yeros, this was already a significant step forward.

Although she hadn’t dealt with the Shopkeeper herself, at least she hadn’t stepped in to stop Lin Sheng when he did.

”What about them?”

After Lin Sheng finished off the Shopkeeper, Yeros looked at the heap of bones at her feet and asked.

”Perform a transcendence ritual for them, I suppose.”

Lin Sheng said indifferently.

He viewed the deaths of these people with detachment and thus didn’t care.

”Transcendence?”

Yeros appeared very confused by this new term she had never heard before.

But from Lin Sheng’s expression, she could tell that he intended to leave these people to their own devices.

However, Yeros was unwilling to do that.

Divine power gathered in her palm, and a life-filled energy showered over the withered bones in the room, causing them to glow with vitality once again.

Seeing this, Lin Sheng didn’t stop her, merely shaking his head helplessly behind her.

He used ”Mediating Creation” to expand the basement space, lest there be no room for these people to stand once Yeros resurrected them.

Lin Sheng knew in his heart that these people were actually beyond saving.

They were all just ordinary people, lacking the will of a Saint.

Under the prolonged torture of nightmares, they should have gone mad long ago.

As expected, after Yeros restored the bodies of those withered bones, hundreds of walking dead appeared in the room.

Most of these people were in a state of madness, while a few were catatonic, completely unresponsive to any external interference.

”How could this be?”

Refusing to believe it, Yeros wanted to use her divine power to forcibly restore their consciousness, but Lin Sheng stopped her.

”Their consciousness has been corroded by the nightmare. Even if you forcibly restore them, they won’t be themselves anymore.”

Because Yeros was worried about these ordinary people, she hadn’t paid close attention to their condition, but Lin Sheng understood it perfectly.

According to Lin Sheng’s understanding, if these people had things like ”three souls and seven spirits,” then under the devastation of these days, a portion of them had already been corroded by the nightmare.

The corroded souls had simply vanished; Yeros’s method merely forcibly filled them with new soul fragments rather than helping them recover the lost parts.

That was why Lin Sheng said ”they won’t be themselves anymore after being restored.”

Lin Sheng explained his understanding to Yeros, and after hearing it, she fell silent.

A sense of powerlessness lingered in her heart, a feeling that made Yeros very uncomfortable.

Since her birth, she had always stayed in the Church and never ventured outside.

Her task in the Church was to observe its development and use her divine power to heal troubled believers.

In the process, she had never encountered an insoluble problem.

Thus, since her birth, she had never suffered a setback.

But since leaving the Church, many setbacks had followed one after another.

By now, Yeros had even begun to doubt herself.

Was her birth a mistake?

Lin Sheng looked at the young girl before him and felt she seemed somewhat depressed.

Seeing that she remained silent, Lin Sheng had to speak up to bring her thoughts back.

”Give them release, and then let’s leave.”

Hearing the voice in her ear, Yeros’s vision regained its focus.

She looked at the people in the space and spoke with difficulty:

”Don’t you have a way?”

”No.”

Lin Sheng waved his hand; he was actually telling the truth.

To fix this kind of irreversible damage, one would either need a way to reverse time or a method to reverse cause and effect.

Lin Sheng couldn’t reverse time, but with the support of the golden immortal dao fruit, he could try reversing cause and effect.

But the problem was, for these ordinary people who had nothing to do with him, Lin Sheng had no need or desire to go to such great lengths.

”Sigh.”

Yeros sighed and didn’t continue to press Lin Sheng.

”Go outside first. I’ll perform the transcendence ritual for them; that will give them release.”

Lin Sheng waved Yeros away, ushering her out of the storage room.

After Yeros left, Lin Sheng gave a casual wave, and the power of the ”Anti-Life Equation” instantly stripped these people of their vitality.

After their vitality was stripped, their consciousnesses didn’t dissipate immediately; they remained just like their former bodies—either dazed or frenzied.

Seeing this, Lin Sheng thought for a moment.

He searched within the golden immortal dao fruit and actually found a ”transcendence” technique.

Lin Sheng applied the transcendence technique to these consciousnesses. Under the influence of an inexplicable force, they transformed into the purest energy and dissipated into the world.

Just then, Lin Sheng discovered that he had actually received a sliver of feedback.

This feedback was as faint as the very tip of a single hair from nine oxen to Lin Sheng, yet he still sensed it keenly.

Because what was fed back this time was something entirely new to him.

Lin Sheng had never encountered this before, but according to his understanding, it could be called ”merit.”

Reasonably speaking, if there was merit, then ”karma” must also exist.

Yet, in all his growth up to now, having killed countless beings, his body hadn’t been tainted by the slightest bit of ”karma.”

At this thought, a flash of insight struck Lin Sheng, and he understood instantly.

The Great Universe he was in before didn’t allow things like ”karma” in its underlying logic, so no matter how many lives he took there, no ”karma” would be produced.

But after coming to this ”idealistic” universe, things like ”merit” and ”karma” were allowed to exist.

However, this didn’t mean just anyone could manifest these two things.

These things weren’t products of this universe; Lin Sheng could only manifest them through the rules evolved from the ”golden immortal dao fruit.”

And since Lin Sheng had never used the golden immortal dao fruit to kill innocent people, he had no ”karma” on him.

His mind immediately became active with this realization.

A sudden thought popped into his head.

If one day he stood before the Light Lord, covered in a golden light of merit brighter than the Light Lord’s own, what kind of reaction would that big light orb have?

Although the Great Universe’s underlying logic would significantly weaken ”idealistic” power, Lin Sheng estimated that once his current Evolution was complete, he would have a cosmic membrane.

No matter how fragile a cosmic membrane was, as long as it wasn’t attacked, it could maximally isolate the rules inside the membrane from those outside.
