Netori: Stealing The Hero's Party!

Chapter 645: The Killer Of Saints

The chosen of the gods killed under their noses. From twelve to seven and then to one. Hamlet, the god of law, was supposed to keep an eye on them all, but right under him–the only man worth his salt, killed everyone and even escaped the prisons of heaven.

”He had help, didnʼt he? Raguel?” Sitting atop his pristine throne, Hamleth glared down at the puny angel at his feet. No less than the size of his toenails, the winged ambassador was kneeling on the ground with no sign of any expression. ”Answer me!”

Slamming his giant feet on the ground, the god whose very face was a mystery masked with clouds–tried to intimidate the angel of fairness, but even as his head lifted, not an ounce of fear could be seen.

”I swear to you, my lord. How that man escaped, how he killed the chosen from Gaia, I have no clue, none.” Retreating his wings, Raguel lowered his again, fully expecting to draw the godʼs ire. And so he did, and his reward? Hamelth lifted his feet from the radiant silver ground and brought it thundering down on top of the angel.

But the moment his golden sandals touched Raguelʼs head, an invisible force stopped Hamleth from crushing the ambassador angel.

”WHAT?!” Yelling in confusion, the god moved his feet away from Raguel. Glaring at him from above, his face masked within the clouds, Hamleth inquired with a rumbling voice. ”HOW?! HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!”

Looking up at one of his lords again, Raguel smiled as he responded.

”It seems that the Creator still has much of me. Iʼm sorry to say, but my death would not fall on your conscience, my lord.”

His response, however, only angered the god of law further. But with the angel being seemingly invulnerable, Hamleth decided to dismiss Raguel and instead worry about how to find this so-called, ʼSaint Killerʼ.

”Get out of sight and find that man at once!” His demand was barely a whisper to the angel. Heʼs seen greater gods rise to the seat of the supreme and fall all the same. No man was too big to fall, and such was especially the case for the current council gods.

Turning away from the colossal, Raguel began walking through a towering passage that connected one realm to another. Pillars of diamond with thorn-like spires, they bore the weights of the bridge that helped the gods meet up with one another. Countless angels defended the bridge, but Raguel wasnʼt one of them–in fact, as he moved through the bridges, he was seen not as the ambassador amongst gods, but as a traitor to the heavens.

ʼYou may not find your daughter, but I pray that you find peace within yourself.ʼ Praying for the soul of the killer of saints, the angel walked and he walked some more–his mind only focusing on what heʼd done to save countless lives by helping with the slaughter of a handful. ʼAnd Iʼll pray for your souls as well, may they find peace in death and that greed be at rest.ʼ

Reminding himself of each and every one of the otherworlders, Raguelʼs heart eased up a little. Only the man named to be the most ruthless was unaffected by the corrosion that is power. The others? They were drunk on their gifts, and had they been let loose, the world of Altaris wouldʼve turned a lot darker.

But his actions were not without fault either–as the man whom heʼd freed had long since fallen into the hands of another corrupt power. And as he sat in that dark room, his bear white and rugged, the killer of saints, kept thinking of his daughter. Captured as he fell from the heavens itself, he was told he would land in an ocean and would have to swim to the shore, where help would arrive for him soon.

”Where am I?” Instead, he sat on mossy ground with his limbs chained to the wall behind him. Looking around frantically, he could barely see a thing but the glint of his pistol–something that heʼd managed to bring from his own world, set him at ease. ”Jesus, almost gave me a heart attack.”

Flicking his head to the side, the man caught his own hair between his lips and felt his way through his tongue to a small piece of clipped metal. Kept under a lair of his thick hair, he had used it numerous times before to escape from handcuffs and jail cells.

Shifting a little, he pulled himself up with his shackled wrists. Leaning closer to the lock on the chains, he pinned the metal between his teeth and began feeling his way around inside the lock. A moment passed as he continued to do so, but right as he was getting a feel for the thing, a pair of footsteps outside the messy room made him slip the metal by his gums.

ʼGoshʼdarg it, why now–you freaks?!ʼ Leaning against the wall, he slowly slid back down to the ground and closed his eyes. Pretending to still be knocked out, he tried not to alert the guard in case they decided to inspect him for weapons and anything else. ʼFirst, them monsters in the clouds, and now these shadows. I must be dreaminʼ no doubt!ʼ

As much as he would like to believe that it was all a nightmare, the moment the door opened and that rancid smell of a horror creeped in–the killer knew that this was no dream or else he wouldʼve woken up and died from the smell. Even now, barely keeping himself from throwing up, he instead tried to think about his home and the white lilies his daughter loved so much.

The notion helped him contain the urge to vomit out his guts while a silent horror moved around the room doing whatever it was that it was doing. The wet sounds of its footsteps were repugnant enough to drive one insane; however, thankfully, the horror didnʼt linger and left with an eerie chuckle to himself.

Opening his eyes again, the man stared at the door that was closed once more.

ʼI should try to leave at night. Probably easier to skip past the guards that way.ʼ He thought to himself, not knowing that his game of pretend did not work with creatures that feed on oneʼs state of mind and their emotions. The horror had simply relished in the fact that it had given him false hope, and night would come–the killer would find out why he shouldnʼt underestimate the creatures of this world.

Note: Before anyone complains, the man used the expression with Jesusʼs name because like the other otherwolders, heʼs from Earth. Secondly, the events of this chapter and the chapter before it happen while Raven is visiting mono, hence the placement. Lastly, next chapter we will return with Raven and a few chapters that are coming will focus on characters that have been sidelined for a while like Choux, Mercedes, The Harem girls in Athenia etc.
