Dream Capture: I Can See Through All Secrets!

203: 203. A perfect empty shellLü Chenxing was staying at a designated hotel in Jiangcheng that was not open to the public. The room was silent. He dismissed everyone, staying alone in the study, and dialed a direct line to the higher-ups using a secure connection.

The voice on the other end of the phone was steady and authoritative. After listening to Lü Chenxing’s detailed report on Tingfeng Energy’s technical details, cooperation framework, and the individual Lu Feng, there was a brief silence.

”So young, yet possessing such strategic technology, his background must be extraordinary. How did you feel interacting with him?” The voice from the other end came, carrying a hint of inquiry.

Lü Chenxing composed his thoughts, his tone carrying an unprecedented solemnity: ”Leader, you know my character, and I’m usually good at judging people, but this young man... I find him unfathomable. Not just in his technology, but more in his... insight, or rather, a kind of almost prescient ability.”

He finally reported, in full detail, how Lu Feng had accurately pinpointed his greatest concern during their meal—his son becoming an anti-drug police officer.

”You mean he also asserted that your son is very safe? Prescient?”

The voice on the other end of the phone carried a clear trace of doubt: ”Could it be that there was an issue with our information channels, and he somehow intercepted or probed them?”

Lü Chenxing shook his head decisively, even though the other party couldn’t see him: ”I’ve deliberated repeatedly; the possibility is extremely low. My son’s specific whereabouts and the nature of his mission have a very high level of secrecy. The informed individuals are few, and all are absolutely reliable insiders. Lu Feng is a university student; even if Yu Tianxiong has some influence, he absolutely couldn’t reach this level. This is what makes it most... eerie.”

Silence fell on both ends of the phone.

Both were staunch materialists, holding high positions, having experienced all sorts of major challenges and met extraordinary individuals, but Lu Feng’s situation still exceeded their conventional understanding.

Connecting this to Tingfeng Energy’s rocket-like rise and Lu Feng’s composure, erudition, and control—all completely inconsistent with his age—a vague yet alarming thought simultaneously emerged in both their minds.

This young man probably possessed some ability or resource they hadn’t yet understood.

”Didn’t he also mention wanting to enter the chip industry?”

The other party’s voice broke the silence again, carrying a deep consideration: ”This matter sounds even more like a fantasy. But since he dared to mention it in front of you, perhaps he truly has some backing. We... might as well wait and see. You maintain a good relationship with him. I’ll have Elder Wei from the National Security also pay attention to Lu Feng’s movements. As for the chip matter... we can also use this opportunity to observe just how many unknown cards he still holds.”

”Understood.” Lü Chenxing responded solemnly.

He knew that for Lu Feng, the nation’s strategy had shifted from mere cooperation to a deeper level of observation and assessment... The next morning, at the high-speed rail station.

The station was bustling with people, and the clear broadcast echoed through the spacious waiting hall.

Lu Feng accompanied his parents to the station early. He pushed the luggage with one hand and naturally held his mother Lu Xiaoli’s arm with the other.

Lu Xiaoli’s eyes were still slightly swollen, clearly having not slept well last night. She tightly held her son’s hand, repeatedly admonishing him: ”Xiao Feng, you must take good care of yourself when you’re out. Eat on time; don’t always forget when you get busy... Do you have enough money? If not, you must tell Mom...”

Her words were rambling but filled with the most sincere concern.

Seeing her son so successful now, she was proud, but the maternal worry in her heart had grown heavier as her son’s status suddenly elevated.

His father, Lu Zezhou, was much more silent. He simply patted Lu Feng’s shoulder firmly, his eyes full of gratification.

”Dad, Mom, don’t worry, I’m this old, I can take care of myself.” Lu Feng listened patiently to his mother’s nagging with a gentle smile on his face, without the slightest impatience.

”Oh, and if anything happens at home, or if you feel unwell, be sure to tell me immediately. Communication is easy now, and don’t worry, I’ve got everything covered. You two stay well at home, enjoy your leisure, dance in the square, and I’ll come back to see you when I’m on holiday.”

He looked at his parents again, everything unsaid.

Lu Zezhou nodded heavily: ”Take good care of yourself...”

The broadcast sounded again. Lu Feng handed the luggage to his father, watching his parents walk through the gate, looking back three times with each step.

He stood outside, waving to his parents through the crowd, and remained still until they disappeared at the end of the passage.

The sunlight fell on his young yet exceptionally composed face, and a subtle warmth and determination flickered in his deep eyes.

Allowing his parents to enjoy their golden years, no longer toiling for a living, was perhaps one of his earliest and most simple wishes.

Now, he was realizing this wish step by step.

The vibration of his phone pulled him back from his thoughts; it was Yu Tianxiong’s call.

”Sir, there’s a lead for the person you asked me to find...” Yu Tianxiong’s voice came through the receiver.

Lu Feng raised an eyebrow and asked, ”Where?”

”In a private nursing home in Lincheng, a neighboring province, there’s a suitable candidate who meets your requirements. It’s just... the situation is a bit special.”

”How so?” Lu Feng asked concisely.

”It’s a young man who just turned eighteen, an orphan who grew up in an orphanage. About three months ago, he was hit by an out-of-control car while delivering food at night. Although his life was saved, his brain was severely damaged, and he became a vegetative state. The at-fault driver’s family was of average means, with limited compensation. Most of the subsequent treatment and care costs were advanced by the community and welfare agencies, and he was later sent to that relatively inexpensive nursing home for palliative care.”

Eighteen? Not much younger than himself.

After a moment of thought, Lu Feng said, ”Understood, we’ll go together.”

A few hours later, Lu Feng and Yu Tianxiong’s plane landed at the airport, and they then took a vehicle to the nursing home in Lincheng, located in the urban-rural fringe, with somewhat outdated facilities.

Led by the person in charge, whom Yu Tianxiong had arranged with in advance, he came to a dimly lit single room filled with the smell of disinfectant.

On the hospital bed before him lay a gaunt young man, his face pale, eyes sunken, a feeding tube in his nose, relying on machines to maintain basic vital signs.

He looked so young, yet his life seemed to have already frozen.

An old caregiver nearby, responsible for his care, sighed and whispered to Lu Feng, ”This child, what a bitter fate... No father, no mother, he finally made his own way, and then this happened. People from the community occasionally visit, but everyone knows... Alas, he won’t wake up.”

Lu Feng didn’t speak; he simply walked quietly to the bedside, reached out, and gently placed his hand on the young man’s cold forehead.

He closed his eyes, and a vast consciousness slowly probed the depths of this body.

A dead silence.

There were no scattered fragments of normal human consciousness, no dream bubbles representing the subconscious, not even a trace of instinctive emotional fluctuation could be felt.

Here, it was like a room that had been completely emptied and cleaned, with only the most basic life support systems mechanically running.

A perfect empty shell.

The people at the nursing home looked at them with confusion, wondering who these people were and why they were interested in this vegetative patient.

Lu Feng opened his eyes, a hint of satisfaction flashing within them.

He withdrew his hand and nodded to Yu Tianxiong beside him.

Yu Tianxiong immediately said to the caregiver and the nursing home director: ”We’re taking this person. All subsequent procedures and fees will be handled by my assistant.”

The nursing home director was already eager to get rid of this burden that only incurred expenses without income. Hearing this, he quickly nodded and bowed, agreeing: ”Okay, okay, everything as you arrange! We will certainly cooperate to complete all procedures! Oh, by the way...”

He couldn’t help but ask one more question: ”I wonder, why are you two taking him away? Is it because...”

Lu Feng said without hesitation: ”To Jiangcheng, to cure him.”

The director and caregiver were very surprised and said, ”Then we’ll entrust him to you.”

Soon, the handover process was quickly completed.

The young man was carefully moved onto a specially modified medical vehicle and driven to the airport. He and Lu Feng then boarded a plane and flew towards Jiangcheng...
