149: Cooperating with government forcesReturning to the Ping An Inn.

An Yang was still immersed in his beautiful dream of being a ”Vice President of a multinational corporation.”

”Brother Ze, if our branch company opens, shouldn’t I have an English name?”

”Should I be called Andy? Or Angel?”

Zhang Ze gave him a speechless look.

”Call yourself Angel. Angel wings suit you quite well.”

”Really? I think that sounds good too!” An Yang smiled foolishly.

Chen Hu sat nearby, disassembling a silenced pistol into parts and then reassembling it at lightning speed.

Throughout the entire process, he didn’t even blink.

Suddenly.

The old Nokia phone on the table emitted a jarring ringtone.

It wasn’t the one A Gui had given them.

It was the military satellite phone left by Postman.

The atmosphere in the room instantly solidified.

An Yang immediately dropped his playful demeanor and stood ramrod straight.

Chen Hu’s hand paused on the slide of the gun.

Zhang Ze walked over and answered the phone.

”Hello.”

Postman’s steady voice came from the other end of the line.

”It’s me.”

”There have been some new developments in the situation.”

Zhang Ze: ”Speak.”

”We have already established contact with the local Government Forces through special channels.”

”They have long wanted to eliminate General Kelen and the cancerous growth known as ’Black Snake’.”

”They just lacked a suitable opportunity and an assistant of sufficient weight.”

A slight curve appeared at the corner of Zhang Ze’s mouth.

”So, we are that opportunity?”

”That’s right.” There was also a hint of a smile in Postman’s voice.

”We have hinted to them that a ’big shot’ has arrived here.”

”This ’big shot’ will make a move against ’Black Snake’.”

”The Government Forces are very excited. They are willing to seize this opportunity and cooperate with the operation.”

”When we move against the ’KRAKEN’ compound, they will deploy troops to contain, or even encircle and annihilate, General Kelen’s main forces.”

An Yang’s eyes lit up as he listened nearby.

Having the Government Forces as backup?

That meant a guaranteed victory!

Zhang Ze, however, remained calm.

He knew things weren’t that simple.

”What are the conditions?” he asked.

Postman was silent for a moment.

”The condition is that everything you do has nothing to do with Longguo.”

”On an official level, we don’t know who you are, nor do we know you are here.”

”You are not a Central Special Investigator, nor a consultant for the National Security Special Action Department.”

”You are simply Zhang Ze.”

”A Longguo businessman who came here to discuss business.”

On the other end of the phone, Postman’s tone became extremely serious.

”All your actions are your personal conduct.”

”Do you understand?”

Zhang Ze smiled.

He smiled very happily.

”I understand.”

”This is exactly what I wanted.”

”This way, when I take action, I won’t have any concerns.”

He hung up the phone.

An Yang leaned closer, a puzzled look on his face.

”Brother Ze, what does that mean?”

”Are they abandoning us? Making us take the blame ourselves?”

Zhang Ze patted him on the shoulder.

”Silly boy, this isn’t taking the blame.”

”This is authorization.”

”It’s the highest level of authorization.”

”It means that as long as we can rescue the people and retrieve the items.”

”We can use any method and cause any disturbance without worrying about causing international disputes.”

”Because we are ’personal conduct’.”

Chen Hu, standing nearby, silently clipped a grenade onto his tactical vest.

He used action to express his understanding of this ”authorization.”

”That’s great!”

An Yang finally realized, excitedly slapping his thigh.

”Then what are we waiting for! Let’s get this damn thing done!”

Zhang Ze waved his hand, signaling him to calm down.

He picked up the Nokia phone Shawa had left behind and dialed a number.

”It’s me.”

Shawa’s respectful yet slightly excited voice immediately came from the other end.

”Brother Ze! What are your orders?”

”Hold your position and wait for my command.”

Zhang Ze’s instruction was simple and direct.

”Have Ashui return first as well; I don’t need him here temporarily.”

”Understood! Understood! I will follow all of Brother Ze’s arrangements!”

Shawa’s posture was extremely deferential.

Hanging up the phone, Zhang Ze tossed the handset back onto the table.

”Alright, pack up. We are going to meet our new friends.”

Chen Hu wasted no words. He holstered the pistol he had just assembled, then shouldered the tactical backpack filled with heavy firepower. The entire process was fluid and seamless, without a single unnecessary movement.

An Yang also immediately sprang into action, putting on all his gear one by one while humming a tune.

”We common folk, are truly happy today...”

Hearing this gave Zhang Ze a headache.

”Shut up and stop acting like you’re going on a spring outing.”

”We are going for a serious business meeting.”

An Yang immediately stood at attention, his expression serious.

”Mission guaranteed to be completed!”

The three men left the Ping An Inn.

Chen Hu drove the Toyota pickup, heading out of the city guided by the rough map A Gui had drawn.

After driving for over an hour, the surroundings became increasingly desolate.

Finally, the pickup stopped in front of an abandoned highway checkpoint.

This place was far from any village or shop, featuring only a few dilapidated bungalows and a rusty barrier pole.

The three men got out of the car and waited where they were.

Before long, the roar of an engine came from the distance.

A dark green military jeep, kicking up dust, approached from afar and finally stopped steadily in front of them.

The car door opened.

A tall, thin man in a crisp military uniform stepped out.

He was approximately thirty years old, with healthy wheat-colored skin, sharp movements, and the unique aura of a soldier.

The man walked up to the three men and stopped.

He first looked at Zhang Ze, then his gaze lingered briefly on An Yang’s exaggerated muscles, before finally settling on Chen Hu.

When he saw Chen Hu’s silent yet dangerous appearance, his movements paused slightly.

”I am the Government Forces liaison officer, Captain Li.”

He extended his hand and introduced himself.

”Zhang Ze.”

Zhang Ze shook his hand.

”An Yang.”

”Chen Hu.”

An Yang and Chen Hu also announced their names in turn.

Captain Li nodded.

”Please follow me. The Command Center is nearby.”

He turned and got into the jeep.

Zhang Ze and the other two returned to their pickup and followed the jeep.

After driving for another ten minutes, the convoy turned into a hidden fork in the road.

Passing through a dense forest, a temporary military camp appeared before their eyes.

The camp was not large, but the defenses were tight, with armed soldiers and military fortifications everywhere.

The jeep stopped in front of the largest tent.

Captain Li led them inside.

The tent was brightly lit.

A huge sandbox model was placed in the center, showing a detailed topographical map of the area. One valley was prominently circled with a red marker—this was the ”KRAKEN” compound.

Several officers, also dressed in military uniforms, were discussing something in front of the sandbox.

Seeing Captain Li and Zhang Ze enter, everyone stopped talking.

”Gentlemen, this is our partner from Longguo, Mr. Zhang.”

Captain Li introduced him to the group.

A middle-aged man wearing a field officer’s rank insignia on his shoulder walked over and proactively extended his hand.

”Mr. Zhang, hello. I am the frontline commander for this operation, Colonel Basong.”

His Chinese was a bit stiff, but he was very enthusiastic.

”Colonel Basong, hello.”
