An Investor Who Sees The Future

Side Story 2. The Chairman’s Game (2)

I decided to play the game with them first and then decide whether to accept the raid leader position.

Kim Hyun-ho logged into Lost Fantasy Online after a long time.

Various characters such as Warriors, Paladins, Priests, and Archers were already gathered on the field.

Among them, Kim Hyun-ho focused on a Paladin wearing silver armor. The nickname floating above the knight’s head was

’JinDragon.’

This nickname is famous in Lost Fantasy Online.

His true identity is none other than Im Jin-yong, the Chairman of the Seosung Group.

It’s a great honor to meet the Chairman like this, even in a game.

[GUConvenienceStoreWorker: Nice to meet you, Chairman. I am Kim Hyun-ho, a new employee at Seosung Electronics. I’m so happy to play with you :)][JinDragon: Hello. I look forward to working with you too.]

[GUConvenienceStoreWorker: Let’s lightly run an instance dungeon today.]

Kim Hyun-ho ran the instance dungeon with the raid members and analyzed the characteristics, skills, and control abilities of each class.

Playing with Chairman Im Jin-yong, he was quite surprised by his skills. He wasn’t exceptionally good, but he at least pulled his weight.

’I thought he would have terrible control or be a troll, but he’s pretty good.’

President Cho Dong-jun and Executive Director Joo Seong-mo were the same. At this level, he thought it was worth a try.

Above all, playing the game after a long time, he felt the thrill in his hands.

’Right. Playing games hard is also a way to improve work ability!’

Kim Hyun-ho accepted the position of SS Raid Leader.

The first goal was to defeat Karak’tula. He planned the raid strategy in detail, and on weekends, except for those who were busy or on business trips, they gathered at a PC bang to conduct mock battles and coordinate with each other.

Before he knew it, two weeks had passed, and the raid day was just a day away.

President Cho Dong-jun said with a grim expression to him as he was about to leave work.

”If this raid fails, be prepared to write your resignation letter.”

Startled by those words, Kim Hyun-ho asked.

”Excuse me? Do I really have to write a resignation letter?”

It’s only been three months since I joined!!

Seeing his expression, President Cho Dong-jun burst out laughing.

”Haha! It was a joke. I mean you should approach it with that kind of determination.”

”Ahaha! I, I see.”

’It didn’t sound like a joke.’

He gritted his teeth inwardly.

’I will make this raid a success no matter what!’

***

The day of the raid dawned.

Before starting the raid, he checked the connection status of his headset, keyboard, and mouse with the feeling of a knight going to the battlefield.

For him, the keyboard was his sword, and the mouse was his shield.

Before entering the dungeon, he gave a detailed briefing as the raid leader. Everyone listened attentively to his words.

[GUConvenienceStoreWorker: From now on, you must follow my instructions carefully.]

[JinDragon: Of course~]

[ImPresidentJo: Just give the order!]

They all entered the instance dungeon together.

After dealing with the mobs and avoiding traps, they went inside, and a giant spider monster welcomed them.

This spider is Karak’tula, which moves fast for its size and has high defense. Moreover, it has the characteristic of changing its attribute frequently.

Therefore, the key was to quickly catch the attribute change and change the attack method accordingly.

”Kiiiiie!”

With a shriek, the boss mob raid finally began.

The strategy was already perfectly inputted into Kim Hyun-ho’s head.

”It’s coming! Tanks forward!”

As the 5 tanks in the front line used their respective taunt skills, Karak’tula’s aggro was drawn to them.

”Kieeeek!”

Eight legs began to pound on the tanks’ shields.

At that timing, Kim Hyun-ho shouted again.

”Aggro secured! Dealers ready!”

Following the raid leader’s command, the Mage and Archer waiting in the back loaded their magic and weapons respectively.

The standard way to conquer Karak’tula starts with neutralizing those legs.

”Focus fire starting from the first leg on the right!”

Bang! Boom!

”Kieeee!”

At the order given at the precise timing, one of Karak’tula’s legs was turned into rags.

’Good! The damage is sufficient!’

The tanks grab the aggro that is about to turn to the dealers again, and they attack the legs at that timing.

It was worth simulating several times at the PC bang, as their coordination was perfect. But the real importance starts now.

When the fourth leg broke, Karak’tula’s huge body collapsed halfway.

”Kyararara!”

A shriek different from before echoed. It was a signal that it was entering Phase 2.

Swooosh!

Black mist spewed out of Karak’tula’s mouth.

Poison Cloud!

Also known as the poison floor. When Karak’tula loses more than half of its legs, it spews unavoidable venom in rage.

It deals damage over time for 3 seconds, and the damage was terrifyingly powerful. Even decent tanks find it hard to endure 3 seconds.

”Apply heal and area buffs!”

The moment the poison floor was laid, the healers used recovery magic all at once, and the Paladin cast an area buff.

When the raid started, he was worried about what if the Chairman couldn’t keep up well, but looking at it now, it was an unnecessary worry.

Even though heals and buffs went in at the precise timing, one-third of the HP was cut away. On top of that, HP continued to drop due to the poison effect.

Instead, Karak’tula also fell into a groggy state as a price for pouring out all its venom.

A monster in a groggy state has its defense weakened by 50 percent. Until that state ends is the timing to deal maximum damage.

”Right now! Everyone attack!”

Bang! Boooom!

Sword strikes and magic exploded, and light burst out ceaselessly on the monitor. Kim Hyun-ho commanded the raid and used the right magic in the right place.

Additional damage burst out with every exploding magic.

”Lightning Surge going in!”

Zzzzt!

Lightning poured from all sides.

”I can’t use magic for 3 minutes from now!”

By the time 3 minutes passed, Karak’tula had completely collapsed. But this is not the end.

”Kyararara!”

As if metamorphosing, Karak’tula’s huge body split open, and a small spider popped out from inside.

”Entered Phase 3. We’re almost there, just a little more effort!”

Karak’tula, reduced to about a tenth of its size, moved nimbly along the dungeon walls, attacking by shooting venom and sharp needles. On top of that, it used the Blink skill, moving its location all over the place in an instant.

From now on, aggro management and control to land attacks accurately were important.

This was Kim Hyun-ho’s specialty.

’I’ll show you what control skill catching Lurkers with Marines is!’

He tapped the keyboard and clicked the mouse in a trance without even blinking. It was truly a state of perfect immersion, god-like control.

The magic that flew hit Karak’tula’s small body accurately. He even cast magic in advance at the spot where it was expected to appear, tying its feet.

Thanks to his performance, everyone was able to attack and defend without panicking.

If he had studied with this much concentration, wouldn’t he have gone to Harvard or Oxford instead of Korea University?

The raid continued for over an hour.

By the time HP and MP were almost depleted, Karak’tula’s HP finally hit the bottom, and its body collapsed.

At that moment, Kim Hyun-ho raised both hands high and shouted.

”Alright!”

The other raid members also shouted cries of joy.

In the case of a boss mob raid, the reward money is automatically distributed according to battle contribution. But the most important thing is the special item that only the boss mob has.

[Would you like to bid for the Polaris Sword? -Accept- or -Decline-]

Everyone pressed ’Decline’ as if they had been waiting.

Kim Hyun-ho also moved his mouse to click ’Decline’, but at that moment, a powerful smash suddenly landed on his back.

Smack!

”Ouch!”

When he turned his head, his mom was standing there.

”Why did you hit me!?”

”You seemed to study for a while after getting a job, but now you’re just playing games at home again! What are you going to do if you get fired from the company?”

Kim Hyun-ho shouted as if he was wronged.

”Games are also an extension of work, Mother!”

”What kind of work is this?”

”It’s true. You don’t even know.”

”What don’t I know? Turn off the game right now and study!”

”It’s all over now anyway.”

Grumbling, Kim Hyun-ho turned his head back to the monitor. At that moment, his eyes widened involuntarily.

”Wait, wait. Why did this happen?”

He shouted like a scream.

”Aack! I pressed the wrong button because of Mom!”

***

When the raid leader bid to take the Polaris Sword, everyone was surprised.

It’s not that a Mage can’t use a sword. But since the power stat is low, no matter how good the sword is, swinging it is worse than using magic once.

The Paladin asked.

”Are you changing your class to Magic Swordsman?”

The White Mage shook his head in surprise.

”N-no! I pressed the wrong button!”

The Warrior whispered.

[ImPresidentJo: (Whisper) The person who never made a single control mistake happened to press that wrong?]

[GUConvenienceStoreWorker: (Whisper) S-sorry ㅜㅜ]

He couldn’t bring himself to say it was because his mother suddenly came in and hit his back.

Anyway, there are two people who want the Polaris Sword.

If there are multiple people who want it, the dice are rolled, and it is bound to the character with the higher number. A situation arose where it had to be decided by luck.

The Paladin rolled the dice first.

Two dice spun rapidly in the air. Everyone stared at the dice with their eyes wide open.

’Please!’

’High number! High number!’

Dice! Chear up!

Finally, the dice stopped.

The numbers were 5 and 6. The sum was 11.

Seeing that, the raid members sighed in relief simultaneously.

Some quickly offered flattery.

”11! I’ve never seen such a high number.”

”That was amazing dice rolling skill.”

”Wow! They say a famous sword chooses its master, and a good item finds its owner!”

The Paladin shook his head.

”It’s not decided yet.”

Now it was the White Mage’s turn.

The Warrior whispered to the White Mage again.

[ImPresidentJo: (Whisper) Surely a 12 won’t come out?]

[GUConvenienceStoreWorker: (Whisper) Absolutely not. Not to brag, but I have no history of drawing anything good in gacha games. I’ve even spent over 500,000 won and couldn’t draw a card that comes out once in 10 draws.]

It really wasn’t a brag.

Hearing that, the Warrior was relieved, and the White Mage carefully rolled the dice.

Two dice rolled rapidly in the air. Unlike before, everyone looked relaxed.

The probability of getting a 12 is 1/36, less than 3 percent.

’Surely a 12 won’t come out?’

Just as they were thinking that, the dice stopped.

”Gasp!”

The numbers were 6 and 6. The sum was 12.

Even after rubbing their eyes and looking several times, it was 12.

’Is this real?’

While everyone was denying reality for a moment, a notification rang as if to confirm the kill.

[GUConvenienceStoreWorker has obtained the Polaris Sword!]

Everyone was speechless with shock. But the most shocked among them was the White Mage himself.

’W-why me, such an ordeal!’

He screamed inwardly.

’Father! If you’re watching me, tell me the answer!’

The Paladin offered congratulations to the flustered him.

”Congratulations on the item.”

He shouted in surprise.

”N-no!”

The White Mage took out the Polaris Sword from his inventory to offer the sword right away.

The staff disappeared, and a snow-white sword was held in his hand.

But contrary to his desire to hand it over to the other person, the sword did not leave his hand. Since it was a bound item, it was impossible to transfer it to others.

”Are you showing off?”

”N-no, that’s not it...”

In the other person’s eyes, it would only look like he took out the sword and held it out.

Realizing that fact, the White Mage shouted again.

”I-I’ll buy you a similar one!”

It was better left unsaid. It’s not like he sees him as a beggar, and surely the Chairman of the Seosung Group wouldn’t be doing this because he has no money?

”I’m fine. It seems the Polaris Sword isn’t meant for me, so I’ll have to find another sword.”

The Paladin looked around at the raid members and said.

”Everyone worked hard today. Then I’ll be off.”

The Paladin logged out first. But the other characters remained there as they were.

It was a raid they prepared for a whopping 2 weeks!

But that raid failed... no, it succeeded, but the White Mage snatched the result.

The Warrior holding a battle axe tapped the White Mage’s shoulder and said.

”Come to the President’s office when you come to work tomorrow.”

”...Yes.”

The next day.

”Hyun-ho! Wake up and go to work!”

”I don’t want to. I’m not going.”

”Do you want to be late? Wake up quickly!”

Kim Hyun-ho burst into tears.

”Sob! I’m not going! I said I’m not going!”

The mother was flustered as her son suddenly cried.

”What’s wrong with him? Are they bullying you at work because you graduated from a junior college?”

”This is all because of you, Mom!”

The SS Raid Group’s Karak’tula raid video was released through ToGoBox, a game video service operated by OTK Games.

Gamers who watched the video couldn’t hide their shock.

- LOL crazy.

- Who is it? Who stabbed the Chairman in the back?

- They say it’s a new employee at Seosung Electronics.

- Wow! Look at the new employee’s spirit!

- Did he join Seosung Electronics just to gain momentum?

- Wow! That’s awesome! Im Jin-yong must have pissed himself!

- You’re the first employee like this to me, the Chairman~

- Hoho! That guy is going to be big later!

- Won’t he get fired before he gets big?

- Exchanged his job for the Polaris Sword.

- He made a profit~

The rumor that a new employee stabbed the Chairman in the back in the Karak’tula raid spread not only to Seosung Electronics but to all affiliates of the Seosung Group.

Fortunately, Kim Hyun-ho was not fired and continued to work safely, and even after that, he led the SS Raid Group and cleared numerous dungeons.

Later, the console development department was separated from the IM division into a separate game division, and he played a key role, rising to the position of Vice President of the Game Division.
