Immortal and Martial Dual Cultivation

Chapter 1562 (Raw 1544): Sword and Saber Contending

The saber was the tyrant of weapons, boundlessly domineering. The sword was the ancestor of many weapons, its edge the sharpest.

One could not use the edge of a saber to block a sword edge directly. Hence, the angle that Xiao Chen swung his saber was from bottom-up.

With a gentle raise, Xiao Chen hacked the approaching sword intent in half.

This was the boundless Starry Heavens. Countless stars lit the place, making this heavenly river look like a painting. This was the final battlefield for two powerful outstanding talents.

Many people did not know what the consequences of this battle were.

Compared to the Demonic God’s grand entry, Chu Chaoyun chose to be more discreet.

Although the strange sights of the Kunlun Realm were startling, many cultivators were actually unaware of what was going on.

These cultivators did not know that a battle that would decide their fates was taking place in the depths of the Starry Heavens.

They did not even know the name Chu Chaoyun.

However, an increasing number of peak cultivators of the Kunlun Realm became aware of this battle. Many Sovereign Martial Emperors and the Primes of the Starry Heavenly Ocean arrived beside Ying Zongtian and the other Kunlun Continent Primes silently.

Far away, in the depths of the Starry Heavens, where this group was looking towards, were two figures standing tall.

These two figures were like resplendent stars, making the surrounding starlight appear much dimmer, unable to cover up their sharpness.

Xiao Chen and Chu Chaoyun both stored up power as they locked eyes with each other, not letting any detail go.

Vaguely, there was an invisible exchange between the two with their sharpness.

As for the divine object that the first Tianwu Emperor had left behind, it buzzed continuously, trembling endlessly.

Xiao Chen did not dare to make the first move, as he did not understand Chu Chaoyun well.

After not fighting with the other party for so long, Xiao Chen did not know how Chu Chaoyun fought nor had detailed information about him, so he could only quietly watch and observe first.

As the two faced each other, their auras continuously soared.

”Whoosh!”

When their auras reached their peaks, Chu Chaoyun made the first move. His sword thrust forward, all his aura and momentum focused on its tip.

Chu Chaoyun’s actions were as fluid as flowing water and the moving clouds, extremely smooth. He was very experienced at catching hold of the timing.

However, the most exquisite part had to be Chu Chaoyun’s understanding of the sword.

The strength of a sword lay in its sharpness and unyielding nature, unbroken by anything. Chu Chaoyun instantly focused all his aura into the tip of the sword without any errors.

This proved that Chu Chaoyun’s accomplishments with the sword had already reached the peak.

As for the strength of a saber, it lay in tyranny and berserkness.

However, sending out a tyrannical aura was not something done in one go. It required continuous accumulation, the aura growing stronger as the fight went on, becoming increasingly ferocious.

Of course, if the opponent was weaker, one would hold the upper hand from the start and would not need such accumulation. Such situations did not count.

As the strongest bladesman of the Kunlun Realm in the current age, Xiao Chen understood this principle clearer than anyone else.

When facing Chu Chaoyun’s sharp sword, the best option was to retreat and avoid the edge, waiting to act when there was an opportunity.

However, when facing Chu Chauyun’s extremely dominant sword, one could not retreat. Once one retreated, there would not be any chance to turn the situation around.

Even if one suffered a disadvantage, one could not back off in momentum. There was only one thing to do: fight!

Before the sword arrived, the wind from the sword arrived already. This sharp sword wind blew back Xiao Chen’s long hair, sending it all streaming behind him.

The spot of light in Xiao Chen’s vision grew increasingly closer.

Xiao Chen roared ferociously and raised his saber to chop down. At the crucial moment, the saber’s blade struck the tip of the sword.

”Chi!”

When the saber and sword met, sparks flew. The two men exchanged glances and saw the sharp light in each other’s eyes.

Xiao Chen forcefully blocked this stab, the hand that held the saber going slightly numb from the shock.

Blood leaked from his palm.

Needless to say, Xiao Chen suffered a little in this exchange. Under such circumstances, Chu Chaoyun clearly held the upper hand, and Xiao Chen should not have met this attack head-on.

”I thought that I already improved very quickly. Unexpectedly, you managed to keep up with me. Chu Chaoyun, it looks like you really suffered a lot these years,” Xiao Chen said indifferently. While he could suffer a little physically, he could not let his momentum weaken.

Chu Chaoyun’s lips curled up slightly in a smile. ”This is talent. It is not something that can be accomplished with just suffering. Take another sword strike from me.”

Right after Chu Chaoyun spoke, he flicked his wrist. Without losing momentum, the sword continued moving and pierced towards Xiao Chen’s forehead.

Despite being at such a close distance, Chu Chaoyun easily launched another attack. However, Xiao Chen had only managed to send out the first saber strike after much difficulty and had not even finished neutralizing the force of the earlier sword strike.

This was because Xiao Chen was still accumulating power and had not had the opportunity to build up momentum yet. This was like how a long-ranged weapon would not be able to bring out its full power against an assassin that got up-close with a dagger.

”That’s not good. Xiao Chen cannot dodge this sword strike,” the Heaven Abandoning Deity Sovereign, who was watching from afar, exclaimed, feeling worried for Xiao Chen.

”What an incredible swordsman! It is hard to imagine that there is such a strong expert of the Sword Dao in the Kunlun Realm.” Even though Ying Zongtian did not like Chu Chaoyun from the bottom of his heart, he had to acknowledge Chu Chaoyun’s accomplishments in the Sword Dao.

”Xiao Chen can only move back.”

The Heaven Punishing Corpse God shook his head slightly. This was just the start, and Xiao Chen was already disadvantaged. This was not a good sign.

”Dang!”

However, to everyone’s surprise, Xiao Chen blocked the sword and attacked with his saber as well.

Xiao Chen moved at an extraordinary speed within a small area, spinning around. Then, he turned and launched a saber strike in a dangerous situation.

To ordinary people, Xiao Chen did not move at all. They only saw a saber light moving from a strange angle, blocking that sword strike.

After the second sword strike was blocked, the momentum gathered on the tip of Chu Chaoyun’s sword slowly dissipated.

The might of the sword tip became significantly weaker than at the start. Right then, Xiao Chen finally turned the disadvantageous situation into a draw.

Clangor resounded endlessly.

Chu Chaoyun chose to attack quickly while his momentum was not entirely lost. Immediately, a torrent of attacks rained down on Xiao Chen.

Xiao Chen fought firmly, dealing with the attacks as they came. The two managed to exchange more than a hundred moves.

The strong saber intent and sword intent continuously propagated as the two weapons clashed, producing resplendent light that was visible even from a distance.

The melodious clangor of the saber and sword turned into a stormy song.

This song tugged at everyone’s heartstrings, making their blood surge. This was the most exciting song in the world.

As the saber and sword clashed, the two men brushed by each other. Mysterious phenomena appeared behind them both.

Behind Xiao Chen was a flawless moon. Under the moon was a vast sea with a dragon lurking in the water.

Behind Chu Chaoyun was a glorious imperial city. The royal clan’s banner fluttered at the city gates, commanding the entire world.

Both of them were still equal. Neither side showed any signs of weakness.

After brushing by each other, the probing period was over. Next would be fighting at full power, fighting to the death.

”Dao!” Xiao Chen shouted, and Dao Might appeared. A Dao disk appeared behind him, giving off a faint light.

While exuding boundless Dao Might, Xiao Chen soared up and took the initiative to attack, sending out a saber strike.

”Dao!” Chu Chaoyun shouted as well, and a similar Dao disk appeared behind him. He had also comprehended Great Dao Energy, but through the Sword Dao, not much weaker than Xiao Chen.

The saber and sword clashed again. Blood leaked out of the two’s mouths, each surprised by the other.

Xiao Chen turned around, and the Taiji Saber Domain appeared. Then, his figure hid with the Taiji Saber Domain.

After that, he held up his saber and charged over once more.

Under his feet, the Yin-attributed and Yang-attributed energies in the Taiji diagram each turned into a saber dragon—one overt and one covert, appearing indistinct.

Chu Chaoyun gently pushed off with his feet, and light and darkness interchanged continuously throughout his body, forming a black-and-white Sword Domain.

The two resumed fighting. The Taiji Saber Domain and the black-and-white Sword Domain pushed against each other, winding and twisting intensely around each other.

It was like two huge gears fixed together but turning in different directions.

”Ka! Ka! Ka!”

The sound generated by the conflict shook space. Everyone who heard it felt a soul-deep fear.

”These two are really equal. It is hard to distinguish who is better between their cultivations of the saber and the sword.”

”Indeed, it is really hard to say who will win this battle.”

”I really wonder where this Chu Chaoyun suddenly came from. He is so incredibly strong.”

”He is the Tianwu Emperor’s descendant, which explains everything. Don’t forget, it was just ten thousand years ago when the last Tianwu Emperor severely injured the Azure Emperor. That gave the Thunder Sovereign the chance to sneak-attack the Azure Emperor.”

The startling battle in the distance deeply impressed all the Primes and Sovereign Martial Emperors watching.

Be it Xiao Chen or Chu Chaoyun, their accomplishments in the saber and the sword far surpassed those of the people of the Kunlun Realm by a large margin.

The techniques that the two brought out even confounded some of these Primes, who could not figure out the true mysteries behind the moves.
