A Star Reborn: The Queen’s Return

Wei Shaoyin looked at her and nodded with satisfaction. “Let’s go.”

She watched him strut out, leaving the family area and crossing through the peripheral work area. Under Wei Shaoyin’s identity card, the two of them were unimpeded. The box elevator slowly rose, returning to the ground floor. Standing in the corridor of the old building, Xia Yingluo had the illusion of being in a previous generation.

The sun had shone brightly on the underground artificial landscape, but in the real world, it was already late at night and a violent storm was blowing.

Thunderbolts exploded one after another.

Wei Shaoyin frowned as he watched the corridor outside. “The weather is bad, you’ll have to put up with it.”

Xia Yingluo smiled relaxedly. “This is the best weather for an escape.”

As soon as her words fell, a harsh alarm sounded suddenly in the building.

Wei Shaoyin said, “Shit, we’ve been found out.” He blamed her again. “What escape? Don’t you know how to say something nice, crow’s mouth!”

Xia Yingluo also wanted to beat herself up. “Let’s go quickly.”

The two trotted along the corridor, and when they reached the exit of the glass revolving door, Wei Shaoyin swiped his card, but he couldn’t get permission. His expression turned ugly. “Permission was frozen. That alarm was indeed for us.”

Xia Yingluo’s expression also turned bad. She looked around, took a fire extinguisher in the hall, and smashed the glass door with all her strength. The harsh alarm sounded continuously, and the electronic synthesis sound that didn’t match the old sense of the building came. “The target is found, at the main entrance of the main building. The target is found, at the main entrance of the main building…”

The sound of footsteps sounded far away, and it seemed many people were rushing towards this side.

Wei Shaoyin jumped anxiously. “Hurry up! They’re coming!”

Xia Yingluo gritted her teeth. “I want to hurry up too! What stupid glass in your house is so strong!”

“My family uses the most advanced high-tech materials in my household, didn’t you know?” Wei Shaoyin screamed. “If I’m caught by my little uncle, he’ll cut me into pieces for research! Ahhhh! They’re rushing here! It’s too late! Stop smashing, stop smashing! Let’s run away in a different direction—!”

Xia Yingluo didn’t have time to argue with him. She smashed the glass door forcefully, and remembered how when she had been fighting with people in Imperial’s training camp some time ago, she had managed to break someone’s bones with a slight push. Maybe this miracle might happen again. After all, her strength had recently increased dramatically.

The glass made a huge echo and teetered under her fierce attack. Xia Yingluo slammed and prayed: Heavens and demons, or any messy planetary will, no matter what you are, but if you really exist, you have to bless me to be able to get out of here smoothly. I don’t want to become an alien!

Maybe the planetary will really heard her prayers. A bang sounded and the high-strength explosion-proof glass shattered. Xia Yingluo didn’t even have time to cheer, she dropped the fire extinguisher and ran out with Wei Shaoyin. Outside the building, heavy rain poured down and thunder slammed.

“Xia Yingluo!” someone shouted angrily behind her.

She turned back and saw a figure at the end of the ancient corridor of the ancient building. It was rushing towards her at an incredible rate. It was Wei Lingnan. The man’s slender shadow appeared a bit distorted in the dim light, and a pair of light, smooth, mirror-like eyes stared at her through the storm, as if about to stare a hole into her.

Xia Yingluo shuddered.

“Go!” Wei Shaoyin shouted beside her.

Xia Yingluo returned to her senses and hurried towards the stormy sky.

Beads of raindrops hit her frantically, covering her whole face. She wallowed about, not knowing where she was stepping on. She was thoroughly soaked and numb with cold.

Hurry up, hurry up…

There was only this thought in her mind. She didn’t dare to look back, didn’t dare to see if the man was catching up. The pouring rain blurred her vision, and there was an endless landscape in front of her. Occasionally, a bolt of lightning flashed, and everything around looked like the shadow of ghosts. She ran mechanically, not knowing how far she had run.

Suddenly, a clap of thunder exploded in her ears, and the sharp lightning split off like a sharp blade, making sight blind for a moment. Her heart jumped inexplicably, and she turned back subconsciously. There was only the sound of wind and rain in the darkness. The old building seemed to be standing far away, like a swaying lighthouse on the stormy sea.

She slowed down her footsteps unconsciously.

“Why aren’t you running?!” Wei Shaoyin screamed beside her. “Quick!”

She stopped. “I want to go back and see.”

“Are you crazy?” Wei Shaoyin didn’t care about his cleanliness anymore and reached out to pull her. “Do you know how terrible Wei Lingnan is? He can catch up a few hundred meters in a few seconds!”

Xia Yingluo shook her head and really went back.

She had clearly heard the thunder just now and it had been too close. Was he okay? Unexpectedly, she remembered his remarks about the will of the planet. If the will of the planet really existed and helped her to open the glass door of the building with a fire extinguisher, was the thunderbolt to stop Wei Lingnan from catching up to her? Had it hit him with lightning?

Although she knew her idea was ridiculous, she couldn’t help thinking about it.

How could there be aliens in this world?

Were aliens afraid of being hit by lightning?

Her mind was chaotic, but her legs backtracked uncontrollably.

The sound of violent winds and showers raged in her ear, and Wei Shaoyin’s hands clasped her arms, but he couldn’t hold her back. She didn’t want him to slow her down, so she impatiently shook off his arm and sped up.

The old building was still lit in front, the wind howling and raining torrentially.

She searched eagerly and soon saw him under the faint street lamp in front of the door. He had fallen into a puddle and his face was down. His clothes had been scorched by lightning and he was motionless. She didn’t know if he was even alive or dead.

The thunder and lightning had hit him just now.

Xia Yingluo’s heart was all tight. She didn’t understand why she felt this way. In the nights of being violated and imprisoned by him, she had hated him countless times and wanted him to die. She even wanted to just kill him, but now that he had really fallen in front of her in such an uncertain state, she didn’t even dare come forward, afraid of facing unbearable results.

Taking a deep breath, she put her trembling hand on his body.

His body glowed with high heat. It was burning hot to the touch and she hissed in pain, retracting her hand immediately. In the storm, under the dim street light, she saw her hand bleeding hot with white smoke radiating from the palm.

Her heart sank.

Wei Lingnan’s body was not a high temperature that normal humans should have. Could it have been penetrated by lightning from the inside out? Humans simply couldn’t survive such attacks.
