A Star Reborn: The Queen’s Return

Xia Ling found the scene amusing and a little sad.

Why was such a lovely child abandoned? How could there be such cruel parents in the world? If he were her Shaohui and was so cute, she would not even dare to hurt him, protect him like a gem and never abandon him.

However, life was unfair.

She couldn’t have children although she wanted to so much. In contrast, people who could get children did not cherish them.

She sniffed as she looked at him playing happily in the small garden. The summer breeze brought along a hint of roses.

That child turned around inadvertently and saw her.

A little smile appeared on his face. He put down the half-opened nuts on the floor and stumbled as he ran towards her. “Sister, hug…” He opened his arms.

In the past few days, they became close to each other and the child was very attached to her.

Thus, Xia Ling bent down and picked him up. Although this child was very young, he was quite heavy and it put a strain on her arms. She asked the child, “Were you good today?”

Lazily, the child replied, “Yes…”

The nanny came over and wanted to take the child from Xia Ling’s arms. “Miss, let me carry him. Don’t tire yourself.”

However, Xia Ling did not let go like she did in the past and continued to hug him. She looked at his cute face and was hesitant. Should she really send him to the orphanage?

However, if she did not send him there, what should she do?

“Sister, what’s wrong?” The child was very sharp and quickly realized that Xia Ling’s emotions were not right.

Xia Ling forced a smile. “I’m fine.” After thinking for a moment, she asked, “Little boy, are you really not going to say the names of your uncle and your family? Are you also not going to say your name? Sister can’t find your family now. If this continues, I can only send you to the orphanage.”

She didn’t know if the child knew what an orphanage was. However, he lifted his chubby and short arms and wrapped them around Xia Ling’s neck. “I don’t want to leave sister.”

Xia Ling didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “You should return to your uncle’s side.” She couldn’t bear to leave him, but he was someone else’s child and she couldn’t separate him from his family. “Be good. Tell sister your name and your uncle’s name.” She patiently consoled him.

This child shut his mouth and vigorously shook his head, refusing to say anything.

The nanny had an idea. “Miss, how about you give him to the police. After being frightened by the police, he will eventually say it.” Although this subordinate had good intentions, she was too insensitive when handling children.

Xia Ling glared at her and said sternly, “Rubbish!”

After being reprimanded, the nanny stopped talking.

Miss rarely lost her temper and usually smiled at the helper. Occasionally, she would point out when the bed was not made well enough or the food was a little salty, but she never took it to heart. Unexpectedly, for a lost child, she suddenly flew into a rage. The nanny lowered her head and reminded herself secretly to take care of the child better in the future.

Xia Ling also felt that her tone was a little too harsh and wanted to appease the nanny. However, she did not say anything. She did not want the slightest mishap to happen to this child. Being strict had its benefits. At least this nanny would know how important this child was to her and not dare to let her guard down in the future.

Thinking this way, she stopped caring about the nanny and carried the small boy into the house.

The child also knew that she had a hard time carrying and struggled to be put down on the floor. “I can walk by myself. Walk by myself…”

Xia Ling put him down and continued to ask him about the names of those in his family.

The boy insisted. “Uncle really won’t allow me to say anything. I can’t tell you.”

Xia Ling had a headache. “If you don’t say anything, how can I send you home?”

“Uncle said.” The boy whimpered. “That he wants me to remain by my mom’s side.”

“Well then, what is your mom’s name?”

“Uncle also won’t let me say it.”

Xia Ling was at her wits’ ends. What sort of ridiculous man was this child’s uncle? Why was he so unwilling to tell her anything? She started to believe that what the police said was right. It was very possible that this child was deliberately abandoned by someone. The usual abandonment trick used this year was telling one’s child that he was bringing him somewhere and then asking him to wait patiently there.

The child looked at her with watery eyes.

After a long time, he lifted his short arm and tugged at the corner of her shirt. “Sister.”

Xia Ling did not even have the strength to speak.

“Sister, do you not want me anymore?” The child said carefully.

Suddenly, Xia Ling’s heart ached. “How is it possible?” She guessed that her reaction just now scared the child. Quickly she said, “I like you so much. Of course, I will want you.”

“Well then.” The child was still very carefully and said with a serious expression, “Don’t send me to the orphanage, ok?”

Her heart hurt again.

If they had a choice, which child would be willing to be sent to the orphanage?

Although the head of the orphanage and the teachers were great, an orphan was still an orphan. Who did not want a complete family? “Ok, I won’t send you to the orphanage.” Before she thought about it logically, she already impulsively agreed.

“I just know that sister is the best!” The boy chirped in glee and kissed her cheek.

Unknowingly, Xia Ling stroked his soft, fluffy short hair and thought that since he was not going to the orphanage, she could only let him stay here. How could she do that? Adopt him?

The thought of adoption appeared in her head and grew crazily like wild grass.

She really wanted to have her own child. Ever since Shaohui died, she felt that her heart was hollow and she was frequently in a despondent mood. Four years ago, Li Lei advised her many times to adopt, but at that time, and even now, she never actually adopted a child.

Somewhere deep in her heart, she felt that adopting a child was betraying the deceased Shaohui.

However, this boy was different.

Somehow, she felt that they were very close to each other and had a natural affinity.

That boy hugged her tightly and said, “I’m going to be with sister. I like sister the most.”

Xia Ling lowered her head to look at him.

He was really… a silly child.

When she met this boy for the first time a few days ago, she felt that he was very silly and not wary of strangers at all. He must be well cared for. Otherwise, how could he live in this sinister world?

After a moment, she made up her mind. “Sister will adopt you.”

“Really? That’s great! I can be with sister every day from now on!” The child happily smiled and kissed her face again.
