Chapter 150: Chapter 149: I Really Am the Food King, Please Believe Me Just This Once

”How about I just stew this unlucky kid? Save me the trouble of him pissing me off later!” He Xiaotian blinked, his expression dead serious.

Captain Su and the other two rolled their eyes at his words. ’Could you please try a more subtle way to change the subject next time? This is way too blunt!’

The speaker may have been joking, but the listener took it to heart.

The Food King shuddered. He struggled to lift his head, peering at Captain Su through two narrow slits for eyes.

Even though they couldn’t see his gaze clearly, they could feel the overwhelmingly intense will to live radiating from him.

He was usually the one doing the cooking. Now that He Xiaotian had suddenly suggested making a dish out of *him*, he was utterly panicked.

He knew better than anyone just how cruel it was to be cooked alive!

The once-feared Demon, Lord Food King—however brutal he had been in the past, that’s how panicked he was now.

In reality, He Xiaotian was just trying to scare him. How could he possibly do something like that?

But from the Food King’s perspective, given He Xiaotian’s brutal methods, he was absolutely capable of it!

”Right, why did you guys suddenly show up on this ship anyway?”

If Captain Su didn’t know he couldn’t win a fight against him, he would have definitely decked He Xiaotian.

’Most people, when one plan fails, come up with another.’

’And you?’

’Your attempt to change the subject failed, so you just keep trying to force it.’

’Are we supposed to pretend we don’t notice, or just stay silent?’

But after thinking it over and considering the consequences of angering He Xiaotian, Captain Su made the decisive and wise choice to speak.

”Someone at Snake Mountain filed a report that their friend had been missing for twenty-four hours. And it wasn’t just one or two cases. Before we set out, there were already over eighty. From what we’ve gathered, they all boarded the same ancient ship last night.”

He didn’t need to say more; the current scene said it all.

”What a coincidence. I was here looking for my son and ended up discovering the shady business on this ship. So you don’t need to go to all the trouble; you can just take over the vessel. But I should warn you, pretty much all of them are dead.”

Hearing He Xiaotian’s words, the Food King felt a bitter taste in his mouth.

’How did I end up a prisoner with a new dad, just like that?’

”Isn’t that right, sonny?”

He Xiaotian asked the Food King, giving his arm a little shake.

The jolt nearly made him cough up blood, but he forced himself to muster his strength and uttered a barely audible ”yes” with a voice as thin as a thread.

’That’s enough!!’

Captain Su roared in his mind. ’So what if you’re strong? Does being strong give you the right to treat the three of us like idiots?’

’How could this guy possibly be your son?’

’The Food King’s face may have been smashed to a bloody pulp by He Xiaotian’s Big Hammer, but his voice sounded like he was at least in his thirties, around the same age as my good buddy Lei Yang.’

’From our past interactions, X was in his early twenties at most.’

’Can you tell me how you managed to have a thirty-year-old son when you’re only twenty?’

”X, I personally want to believe you, but your excuse is just too far-fetched. We’re wearing body cams for this mission. An inspection department will be involved afterward to strictly review our conduct.

Besides, given your file... prestige among the Cleaners, if the Vice Minister knew you were the one behind the battle at Moon Lake, the punishment probably wouldn’t be too severe. A small fine of a few Spiritual Energy Crystals at most, just as a formality.”

Captain Su was helpless. He had no choice but to be blunt.

Friendship is friendship, but some things had to be made clear. Otherwise, he would face internal punishment, and it would be severe.

After all, as an enforcer, he couldn’t just ignore someone like He Xiaotian, who had exposed the abilities of extraordinary individuals in front of a crowd.

As for whether the inspection department would come after him for that last part after the mission was over, he wasn’t worried. If he, Captain Su, dared to say it, he wasn’t afraid.

The truth was, there were many fans of X within the Shanghai Cleaners.

In a world undergoing such cataclysmic changes, the strong were respected by all.

Besides, regarding the Moon Lake incident...

When you really looked at it, there weren’t any major losses. At worst, it was just a small PR problem.

The only reason for the aggressive public stance was that Vice Minister Roger felt his authority had been severely challenged.

’The Minister is gone, so every single one of you is crawling out of the woodwork to cause trouble for me?’

’Are you looking down on me or what?’

”Fine, I was the one behind the Moon Lake incident. But you should be thanking me for it. A very dangerous figure from the Netherworld appeared in the mortal world.” As He Xiaotian spoke, he noticed Captain Su and the other two purse their lips, their faces clearly saying, ’We don’t believe you.’

”Hey, why don’t you believe me? That guy was a high-ranking member of the Gate of Greed. Those four Martial Artists from Huayang Road last time were from this same organization. If I hadn’t driven him off, you guys would have been completely overwhelmed by now.”

Anyway, no one knew the real story behind the incident.

So He Xiaotian went all out, boasting about how heroic he was, how he had pummeled a high-ranking figure from the Netherworld and averted a massive crisis.

Every single one of the three men broke out in a cold sweat as they listened.

It was true that X could be unreliable at times, but he didn’t usually lie.

They chose to ignore his earlier claim about looking for his son.

A certain brute was now rambling on and on, describing his great battle with the man from the Gate of Greed. His tale was so thrilling and intense it made one’s blood boil with excitement.

As Captain Su listened, he realized something was wrong.

’How did this turn into a situation where I should be giving you a good-citizen award, along with a reward of several hundred Spiritual Energy Crystals?’

’This isn’t how the script is supposed to go!’

’Weren’t you supposed to pay a small fine, just as a formality?’

’How is it that not only have I not received any payment, but I’m the one who’s about to be paying out?!’

”Alright, that’s enough. We’ll submit a detailed report on the Moon Lake incident. As for the good-citizen award and the Spiritual Energy Crystals, that will require the Vice Minister’s approval.” Captain Su cut off He Xiaotian’s endless rambling. If this continued, he might just end up emptying out the Cleaners’ entire stockpile.

”Then who is he?”

”I told you, he’s really my son. Do you believe me?”

’Who the hell are you trying to fool?!’

Captain Su’s face was a mask of disbelief.

Before he could say anything more, the Food King couldn’t take it anymore and exploded!

As the leader of the Shanghai branch of the Gourmet Kitchen, when had he ever suffered such humiliation?

Even if he died today, he had to expose He Xiaotian’s ugly true colors.

”I’m not his son! I’m the Food King! The Food King from the Gourmet Kitchen! Please, I’m begging you, just believe me this once. I’m the Food King who wiped out half of your Cleaner squads and was then severely wounded by your Minister. If I weren’t so badly injured, how could I have possibly fallen into the hands of this despicable, shameless, and vulgar bastard!!” After spitting it all out in one breath, the Food King was past caring. ’Go ahead and kill me,’ he thought. ’Just kill me.’

’In any case, I refuse to die in humiliation, saddled with the title of his son.’

Captain Su’s gaze toward the Food King instantly sharpened with a keen light.

Before, when this guy with the mangled face claimed to be the Food King, he hadn’t believed him.

Because with the Food King’s level of power, there was no way He Xiaotian could have captured him.

But this hysterical outburst made it impossible not to believe him!!
