Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Faced with Kui and Phoenix’s praise, Lin Yu remained modest.

”The main reason was that Mr. Galli Thontas didn’t pick too hard on me out of consideration for Fish, so I just happened to snag a lucky break.”

”After all, once you reach Second Tier, you inevitably have a few trump cards.”

Lin Yu explained.

This modest explanation was actually rather pale compared to his performance!

After all, the four Third Tier players were all veteran players. Even if they hadn’t thought through everything inside the dungeon, once they came into the Settlement Space and reflected, they would immediately realize how extraordinary ”Schreiber” had been!

The real key nodes that allowed this dungeon to be completed smoothly were almost all thanks to Schreiber’s efforts.

Solving most of the trouble with the Golden Cross Medal, rallying everyone, noticing that the Inquisitor of the Tribunal of Heresy was off and driving that mastermind away through negotiation, and finally staying behind voluntarily when Galli Thontas appeared.

Each of those steps would have been troublesome even for these Third Tier players.

But…

With Lin Yu joining in, every time they passed through them it was ”just right,” passing calmly.

You can’t judge a person only by what they say; it’s more important to see what they actually did.

Of course…

Lin Yu wanted that paleness.

He wanted those Third Tier players to become curious about the ”Schreiber” identity—especially since Fish and Phoenix each had connections in the Night Valley Realm and could continue to pick up on his reputation later.

Soon, an image of a veteran player who had always been low-key and adept but who, due to the latest dungeon being assigned four Third Tier players and a difficulty fluctuation exposing his true level, would gradually enter their view.

Why was ”Schreiber” so strong, and why did he hide his strength? Ultimately—under Lin Yu’s guidance—these questions would slowly point to ”Freud,” the planned public persona.

Inside the Settlement Space, after Lin Yu finished explaining he didn’t dwell further on the topic—after all, going on would conflict with Schreiber’s persona.

He began to check the dungeon’s own rewards.

【Given performance in this game, evaluation ”Threading the Needle” awarded one extra reward.】

【Extra reward: Randomly obtain two ”non-exclusive items”.】

Good, it really was the old friend Threading the Needle.

Lin Yu thought it reasonable; after all, he had exposed the Inquisitor of the Tribunal of Heresy, sorted out the whole picture of what had happened in Lilee, and even called out the dormant Galli Thontas. It would be unreasonable not to get Threading the Needle.

【Given performance in this game, evaluation ”Master of Control” awarded one extra reward.】

【Extra reward: Randomly obtain two ”non-exclusive items”.】

No objections to Master of Control either, since Lin Yu had indeed almost completely controlled the situation this run.

Even the appearance of the variable Galli Thontas didn’t derail the course of events from unfolding within Lin Yu’s plans and expectations.

【Given performance in this game, evaluation ”Far-Famed Reputation” awarded one extra reward.】

【Extra reward: Randomly obtain two ”non-exclusive items”.】

However…

The third Far-Famed Reputation surprised Lin Yu.

”Far-Famed Reputation? How did I get such a widely spread name?”

”Just Galli Thontas and one pillar demon give that effect?”

Lin Yu was puzzled.

Still, it should be a good thing—free item rewards are free items; there’s no reason to refuse them.

And getting six item rewards at once from this dungeon made Lin Yu very satisfied.

Plus the upgraded Guaranteed Revolver and Three-Minute Lie Detector, and the Night Valley Survival Set: Luxury Edition provided by his senior…

On his second time in Night Valley, he had already become a Night Valley expert!

【Item·Holy Flame Tome, bound.】

【Item·Tactician’s Belt of the Judicator, bound.】

【Item·Death Sleep Smoke Vial, bound.】

【Item·Lesser Snake Descendant Summoning Stone, bound.】

【Item·Runic Short Sword, bound.】

【Item·Bottled Dark Current Water, bound.】

These things were all good stuff.

【Holy Flame Tome: The tome carried by every priest of the Holy Flame Church. Possession grants the protection of the Holy Flame, slightly reducing non-physical damage taken. When triggered by mana, it can release the Divine Art: Holy Flame Barrier, lasting 15 minutes, with a cooldown time of 24 hours.】

This was nice—carry it and you mitigate damage, plus an active defensive skill that further increases combat power.

【Tactician’s Belt of the Judicator: A very useful storage belt capable of holding various scrolls, potions, and small weapons. It features mana-locking so stored items won’t be lost or damaged under extreme conditions; stored items can be ejected using mana or directly activated for use.】

It looked like just a belt, but in combat you could preload items into it; some items can even be used without you moving a finger.

A very handy item.

【Death Sleep Smoke Vial: Creates an area of Death Sleep Technique smoke upon use, with strength equivalent to a single release by an Original Sin Wraith.】

A very simple, clear item description—the vial can produce Death Sleep Technique smoke.

Lin Yu had witnessed the power of the Death Sleep Technique; even Third Tier players could fall victim to it… this could practically be used as a trump card.

The only pity was that this was a consumable, usable only once.

But…

Lin Yu was glad he was a Fraudster.

”I need to find a way to make it permanent.”

【Lesser Snake Descendant Summoning Stone: Summons three lesser snake descendants to fight for you. Summon existence lasts a total of 60 minutes, cooldown 24 hours.】

This item was also good. Though three lesser snake descendants wouldn’t be exceptionally powerful—the higher-ranked snake descendants had been cannon fodder in the previous dungeon—summons had many uses for Lin Yu besides fighting. Three humanoid summons that could understand speech and had some combat ability opened up many tactical possibilities.

Then there were the Runic Short Sword and Bottled Dark Current Water.

【Runic Short Sword: A sword for magic swordsmen, becoming lighter, sharper, and harder under sustained mana.】

The Inquisitor of the Tribunal of Heresy had used this main weapon; Lin Yu decided to assign it to Old Yao.

After all, Old Yao’s identity did need a handy main weapon—now that the Old Yao persona had some fame, he might need to act someday.

As for the Bottled Dark Current Water…

”Hah, so this is actually the biggest haul of this dungeon!”
