Weakest Beast Tamer Gets All SSS Dragons

Chapter 1301 - Taming the Old World - Light Dragons - 5

Selthia now knew Ren had flown south…

She was fully aware that this northern front was free of humanityʼs most dangerous weapon.

That tactical calculus was the exact reason she pushed her heavy offensive chips into this specific sector.

It was the only guardian where she stood a realistic chance of securing the prize before Ren or a danger like Liora could sweep the board.

Breaking the defense would be a monumental task…

A dragon with such profound mastery over ethereal magic presented a logistical nightmare for any conventional army.

The physical strikes launched by the Diamond mutants, creatures that theoretically operated on the same power tier, barely scratched the guardian. Heavy claws, charges, and solid projectiles simply passed straight through the shifting light, finding virtually no solid tissue to tear apart most of the time.

Its inherent resistance to magical damage was equally phenomenal.

The massive, coordinated elemental barrages from the surrounding army, strikes that would have easily damaged a lesser guardian, washed over the creature like ocean waves crashing harmlessly against a lighthouse. And whenever a rare attack actually managed to pierce the glowing veil, the dragon casually mended the wound in seconds.

It felt like a colossal waste of resources. The horde threw endless waves of energy and magic at the foothills, yet the guardian barely registered the punishment.

However, Arturo and the tactical command had deployed Selphira to the north for a highly specific reason. The logic was glaringly obvious to anyone familiar with her combat pedigree.

The Northern Light Guardian drew secondary traits from the adjacent fire zone. Its radiance scorched the environment, elevating the local temperature until the very air filling the valley became a lethal weapon.

Selphira, a mentor carrying four centuries of refined combat experience, possessed supreme mastery over the exact elemental counter.

Ice.

It was the same freezing domain she used to chill entire battlefields, effortlessly neutralizing thermal spikes that would have cooked a lesser Tamer alive. Against a guardian that weaponized rising temperatures and turned pure light into a flameless furnace, Selphira was the perfect strategic anchor.

Since the Vanguard could not rely on Renʼs overwhelming burst damage or real time strats here, they leaned entirely on her environmental control.

Selphira stepped forward into the blistering heat, her double fusion fully engaged. A biting, sub-zero aura cascaded from her body, washing over the scorched terrain.

Wherever the dragon light tried to boil the valley, she froze it solid to refract the light into the mutant army.

The suffocating heat generated near the mountain by the glowing beast met a harsh wall of resistance, an aggressive countercurrent of deep winter that leeched the thermal energy from the air before it could accumulate.

The sudden clash of extreme temperatures birthed intense updrafts across the front of the battlefield.

The dragonʼs visual illusions relied mostly on thermal refraction, utilizing the shimmering, superheated air to bend light and blur its true outline like a massive entity, way bigger than it already was. As Selphira forcefully dropped the atmospheric temperature, that thermal distortion stabilized.

The hazy mirages evaporated… Suddenly, the attacking forces found their vision clearing, allowing them to separate the physical dragon from its false body, its phantom decoys and aim their strikes with deadly precision.

”There it is,” Selphira murmured, her voice carrying its usual dry calm as she tracked the guardianʼs true silhouette through the fading haze of light. ”You have a clear line of sight now! Do not fall for cheap parlor tricks and mediocre illusions!”

Stripped of its cloaking heat and the shimmering refraction that kept it hidden, the ethereal beast became a singular, concentrated target rather than a dispersed puzzle.

Even Selthiaʼs corrupted horde recognized the opening, rapidly shifting their formations to converge on the same physical point.

”Now!” Selphira commanded, her voice ringing out across the Vanguard lines. ”While you have the visual, you have the advantage! Focus every single spell on the true silhouette, ignore the copies!”

The human battalion, which had spent the opening moments wasting precious ether on empty air, finally had a tangible target. The heavy magical barrages that previously sailed through empty phantoms began slamming into solid, glowing tissue.

Selthiaʼs six Diamond titans and two hundred Platinums were still a massive, looming threat on the field, yet the primary obstacle was finally vulnerable.

The guardianʼs thermal shield was broken, most of its atmospheric temperature robbed, and its illusions crumbled entirely under the freezing aura of a seasoned matriarch who had spent four centuries honing her craft for exactly this kind of intervention.

The northern siege remained a grueling, uphill battle. But it no longer felt like an impossible endeavor.

As Selphiraʼs deep freeze kicked the door wide open for the attackers, miles away in her crystal chamber, Selthia studied the shifting dynamics across all three active fronts.

She watched the southern theater, where Ren was actively melting his Light Guardian using that dangerous, volatile black fire she could not stop. She evaluated the northern peak, where her heavy offensive gamble was beginning to stumble against the localized winter of an ancient human. She glanced at the capital, still hesitating on exactly how much pressure to apply to the walls.

In the dark isolation of her mind, completely cut off from the ancient entityʼs guidance, the girl carefully weighed the timing for her final trump card.

The stolen Shadow Core sat buried deep underground, waiting for her command.

Back in the capital, Arturo remained at his command post, as always…

This time around, Julius, Taro, and Yang stood guard along the perimeter from the very beginning. The three elite double earth and wood tamers were firmly planted at the front lines rather than rushing in as late reinforcements like they had during the previous siege.

It was an extra security measure suggested to Arturo directly from Ren.

The young general had specifically chosen to leave any earth specialists behind. Since he possessed complete confidence in his southern strategy.

Because he intended to use the heavy black water to smother a physically dense guardian, he simply did not need the massive terrain manipulation he had thought he would need against the mutants last time.

A power that had been so crucial against the mutant horde in the city yesterday. Since earth tamers had proven to be the most vital asset for defending the capitalʼs walls, he kept the majority of them home to reinforce the garrison where they were needed most.
