Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 993: Chapter 993: Shaken Off

He didn’t say much, immediately turned around, and ran swiftly towards the captain nearby.

When he arrived in front of the captain, he lowered his voice, appearing extremely cautious: ”Captain, the Saint Heir’s wanted target, Ye Qingchen, has been found!”

The captain was patrolling the surroundings and was startled when he heard this, his eyes instantly becoming sharp and astonished.

His breath quickened slightly, evidently shocked by this sudden news.

He quickly composed himself, a hint of determination and urgency in his eyes, and coldly ordered: ”Be on guard immediately! Everyone, be fully alert!”

The captain’s voice wasn’t loud, but his tone carried an irresistible authority, like a boulder dropped into a calm lake, instantly creating ripples.

With the captain’s order, all the soldiers at the entrance and exit quickly started to take action.

They drew their weapons, formed a defensive formation, and surrounded Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao, prepared for any situation.

The scene plunged into chaos. The previously orderly entrance and exit instantly became noisy, with soldiers running back and forth, gathering where Ye Qingchen was, the sound of swords clashing and orders overlapping in the air, enveloping everything in a tense atmosphere.

The surrounding citizens also noticed something was wrong, stopping in their tracks, watching the unfolding changes with terrified looks, some whispering, some quickly retreating.

Ye Qingchen instantly reacted, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.

He grabbed Xiao Xiao’s hand, whispering, ”This isn’t good, Xiao Xiao, it looks like these people are here specifically to capture us!”

Before he finished speaking, he had already turned swiftly, running with Xiao Xiao in the opposite direction.

Both were incredibly agile, weaving through the chaotic crowd with lightning speed.

Ye Qingchen led Xiao Xiao, their footsteps light and rapid, like the wind passing through narrow alleyways.

The soldiers behind them quickly reacted, shouting loudly, pursuing relentlessly.

While running, Ye Qingchen quickly scanned the surrounding environment, searching for viable escape routes.

Pedestrians on the street cried out in surprise as the two dashed past, scrambling out of the way to give them a narrow path.

Ye Qingchen held Xiao Xiao’s hand tightly, sensing her slightly quickening breath, knowing he must remain calm in this moment.

The two swiftly crossed several alleys, with Ye Qingchen leading Xiao Xiao skillfully evading the soldiers’ chase, occasionally turning corners or suddenly accelerating, trying to shake off their pursuers.

The alley’s junctions and complex terrain offered some opportunities for cover, but Ye Qingchen knew time was running out. The soldiers were numerous and had blocked all of Jiang Ancient Clan’s exits; they had to find a way to break through.

Xiao Xiao kept close to Ye Qingchen, though anxious, she completely trusted the young master’s judgment and actions.

She observed the surroundings while running, helping to look for possible hiding spots.

The two cooperated seamlessly, constantly weaving between buildings, sometimes leaping over low walls, sometimes suddenly turning into dark corners, narrowly avoiding capture by soldiers several times, always managing to dodge at the last moment.

However, as the pursuers drew closer, Ye Qingchen’s brow furrowed deeper and deeper.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a narrower alley ahead, almost a dead end, but he knew the terrain there was advantageous to them. He whispered to Xiao Xiao: ”Follow me; let’s go that way!”

The two rushed into the alley, where the dim light, moss-covered walls on both sides, and the air filled with a damp scent.

Despite the slippery ground, they maintained their speed without slowing down, their steps steady.

At the alley’s end was a seemingly insurmountable high wall, but Ye Qingchen didn’t hesitate, suddenly accelerating, using the wall to lightly push off, propelling himself over the wall’s top.

Xiao Xiao followed closely, her agility matching his, almost leaping over as soon as Ye Qingchen scaled the wall.

On the other side was another path leading out of the town. Once they landed, without pausing, they continued fleeing to a farther destination.

The soldiers reached the alley’s entrance but hesitated at the high wall, during which Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao disappeared from sight.

The soldiers, panting heavily, asked anxiously: ”Captain, what do we do now? They are too fast for us to catch up to!”

The captain’s face was grim, snorting coldly with a glint of disdain in his eyes: ”The Saint Heir didn’t rely on us ordinary soldiers to catch them. He’s long since arranged follow-up measures. Don’t worry, elite forces are on their way.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the captain raised his hand to his mouth and blew a sharp whistle, the sound echoing in the narrow alley.

Soon after, a strange aura filled the air.

The soldiers hadn’t yet reacted when they saw three blurred figures appear in front of the captain in a flash.

The three men were quite elderly, faces etched with the marks of time, yet their presence was formidable.

Each emitted a powerful pressure, seemingly merging with the surrounding space.

The elder on the left wore a gray robe, holding a black staff with faint Demonic Qi swirling around it; the elder in the center, with a head full of white hair, had eyes shining brightly, like an unsheathed sword, sharp and unstoppable; the elder on the right appeared more composed, expressionless, as if suppressing all his emotions within.

Their appearance was silent, as if formed from the air, the overwhelming pressure they brought causing nearby soldiers to gasp. Upon seeing them, the captain immediately bowed respectfully and said, ”Honorable Elders, Ye Qingchen and his maid have just escaped, please intercept them quickly.”

The three elders exchanged glances, a cold light flashing in their eyes. The white-haired elder in the middle said calmly, ”It seems the Saint Heir still has little confidence in such matters.”

With that, he nodded slightly, tapping the ground lightly with his toes, shooting off like a stream of light towards the direction Ye Qingchen had escaped.

The other two elders followed closely, disappearing stealthily at the alley’s end.

The soldiers watched the elders’ departing figures, feeling deeply awed. They knew the strength of these three elders was extraordinary, long renowned both within and outside the Jiang Ancient Clan.

With these three taking action, no matter how strong Ye Qingchen was, it seemed unlikely he could escape this calamity.

Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao ran madly, their steps never faltering.

The two wove through the busy streets of Jiang Ancient Clan, bypassing numerous checkpoints, moving like lightning.

Not until confirming they weren’t being pursued did Ye Qingchen stop, leaning against a large tree and gasping for air.
