Reborn in the 90s with a Space: Winning Back My Husband

After speaking, Lu Cheng rose and walked over to the phone, dialing his company.

Shen Nian watched Lu Cheng the entire time. She watched him dial the company’s number, watched him speak, sentence by sentence, to the person on the other end of the line, and watched as his expression gradually changed.

’She knew it was settled. Lu Cheng was going back to his company, and there was nothing to be done about it.’

After hanging up, Lu Cheng turned and walked back, his steps a little heavier than before.

He really did have to go back. The company’s mission was urgent and demanding. Besides, his superior had offered him excellent compensation for cutting his vacation short.

After this mission, he wouldn’t be assigned any out-of-town jobs for a while; his main duty would be to train new company recruits.

This would be a great advantage for when Shen Nian moved to B City later. As long as he was in B City, he could help her properly acclimate to her new life.

It would prevent a situation where he might be called away on a mission right after she arrived, leaving her all alone in a completely unfamiliar city.

But even so, Lu Cheng’s heart still ached.

’He was worried Shen Nian would be angry, that she would think he didn’t keep his word.’

More importantly, he couldn’t bear to leave her.

”I...”

As he approached Shen Nian, Lu Cheng had just opened his mouth to speak when he saw her smile at him and she began to speak as well.

”Do you have to go back? Don’t worry, I’m fine. By the time you finish this mission, things at home should be mostly sorted out. Then, I’ll come to B City and find you myself.”

’In truth, with the Shen family starting their farm, Shen Nian knew there was a lot to prepare. There was no way she could have returned to B City with Lu Cheng when his vacation ended, regardless.’

’She had already planned to tell Lu Cheng she would have to postpone her move, but she just hadn’t found the right opportunity.’

’This timing actually worked out perfectly.’

’Though, in her heart, she couldn’t bear to see Lu Cheng go either.’

”I said I’d go with you to the provincial capital.”

”It’s fine. The mission is more important. If you’re worried, I’ll ask my big brother to go with me to the provincial capital.”

’That way, she could reassure those who were worried about her, and she could also take Shen Xiangdong along to teach him a thing or two.’

’After all, she had her own business to attend to on this trip to the provincial capital.’

Lu Cheng didn’t say anything more, just looked at Shen Nian. Shen Nian looked back at him. Though they were silent, the space between them was filled with an atmosphere that no one else could possibly enter.

Father Lu and Mrs. Lu looked like they wanted to say something, but Lu Xinyue pulled them back, shaking her head.

Then, the three of them simply went back to their rooms, leaving the living room to Shen Nian and Lu Cheng.

After the three of them had gone, Lu Cheng stepped forward and pulled Shen Nian into his arms.

”I’m sorry.”

Lu Cheng held Shen Nian tightly, as if wishing he could meld her into his own body. The sorrow of parting left a bitter ache in his heart.

Shen Nian hugged him back. ”You don’t have to apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong. Just focus on your mission and stay safe. You have to take care of yourself. Wait for me to come find you!”

’Shen Nian had already gone looking for Lu Cheng once before. The second time would be a familiar journey.’

”Okay. I’ll wait for you to come find me.”

Lu Cheng didn’t suggest that Shen Nian go with him to B City immediately. For one, he couldn’t bear to leave her all alone in a strange city while he was away on his mission.

For another, he knew she still had things to take care of at home. Even if he forced her to leave early, before those things were done, her mind wouldn’t be at ease.
