First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

”So this counts as tempering the heart through worldly affairs.”

Lu Ding understood. This Lü Mountain method, he still couldn’t quite wrap his head around it.

But it didn’t matter. As long as it worked, that was enough.

Lu Ding left, going to see the Ancestral Master.

The moment he stepped into the old Daoist temple.

The Ancestral Master, suspended high among the stars, asked in confusion: ”Eh? Xiao Lu, didn’t you just leave? Why are you back already?”

It seemed the Ancestral Master had already lost his concept of time.

Lu Ding didn’t bother explaining much, to avoid triggering the Ancestral Master’s ”back in my day” stories.

He said directly: ”Reporting to the Ancestral Master, I plan to go down the mountain, to find those who slandered you and demand an explanation. I came specifically to bid you farewell and see if you have any instructions for me.”The Ancestral Master was deeply moved. Little Lu was truly the best. Such a good child. He had just said he would deal with those people, and now he was already preparing to act.

Truly sharing his burdens and solving his worries.

”Then, little Lu, where do you plan to go?”

Lu Ding replied: ”I plan to go to Niuxin Village on the outskirts of the Tianjue Great Mountain.”

The Ancestral Master said: ”Go ahead. It just so happens that Tianjue Great Mountain has those demonic creatures I told you about last time, the ones who foolishly dared to resist my Lü Mountain.”

Lu Ding: ???????

”Did you tell me that last time?”

How come he didn’t remember the Ancestral Master saying that?

The Ancestral Master looked at Lu Ding. This child was good in every way, except his memory was terrible.

No matter. As an elder, the most important thing when dealing with juniors was patience.

”I did tell you last time. I said it like this. Back in my day...”

The moment those three words came out.

Lu Ding quickly spoke up: ”I remember, I remember now, Ancestral Master! No need to say more, I just forgot. I’ll go right now. Wait for my good news, Ancestral Master. Farewell!”

With that, after bowing, Lu Ding turned and left.

He didn’t dare let the Ancestral Master start another ”back in my day” story. Who knew how long that would take.

As for whether he actually remembered.

Did it matter?

Just kill every demon in sight!

Kill them one by one!

Watching Lu Ding’s retreating back, the Ancestral Master slowly closed his eyes, preparing to go back to sleep, but still murmured: ”Such a good child. Even when he’s about to go down the mountain, he still came to chat with me.”

Exiting the Ancestral Master’s temple, Lu Ding sped all the way, descending Lü Mountain.

The unfamiliar environment gave him a feeling of the sky being high and the birds being free to fly.

In this dungeon floor covered with gold everywhere, Lu Ding was about to go on a bloody, killing, spree!!!

He flashed through the air with [Celestial Shift], each time covering the extreme limit of his vision, rumbling like thunderclaps exploding as he tore through the sky.

At this moment.

Niuxin Village, on the outskirts of Tianjue Great Mountain.

On a hillside, a young woman with a bruised and swollen face leaned against a large tree, her peripheral vision sweeping toward a young man lying on the grass nearby, basking in the sun, dressed in short martial attire.

She said: ”When exactly are you going to kill me?”

The young man had a stalk of dogtail grass in his mouth. Without turning his head, he said casually: ”Why would I kill you? I still want you to be my wife.”

She Shilan’s eyes filled with disgust: ”Dream on!!!”

”We cultivators slay demons and eradicate evil. We stand irreconcilably opposed to demonic spirits. You are human, yet you mix with demons and monsters, and still dare to harbor such fantasies. I would rather die than submit!”

Hearing this, Du Zhong, lying on the grass, slowly turned his head to look at She Shilan: ”Why? Why do you hate demons and monsters so much? We all live in this world.”

”Humans dominate the world. The Demon Continent has Lü Mountain crushing everything above. The centennial demon-feeding purges. Demons are the ones at a disadvantage. They just want to survive. What did they do wrong?”

”If it were you, and you could live to two hundred, five hundred years old, but someone told you that you could only live to one hundred. If within that hundred years, you were born in the fiftieth year, then you’d only live fifty years.”

”If you were born in the eightieth year, you’d only live twenty years. I ask you, if it were you, wouldn’t you fight back?!”

Du Zhong looked at the village: ”Look. The demons you despise are just like ordinary people, wanting to pursue the simplest, most plain life. Work at sunrise, rest at sunset.”

”Such a simple request can’t even be fulfilled. Without obstacles, it would be so easily achieved. But now it can’t be done, and they can only wait for the death brought by Lü Mountain, step by step closing in. If it were you, wouldn’t you fight back?!”

”And you, do you have some deep, blood feud with demons? Why do you hate them so much? Or rather, if you have a grudge, you can settle accounts with the specific demon that wronged you. Why blame all demons equally? Not everything is absolute. Dare you say all demons are evil?!”

An ordinary person might actually be swayed by his words.

But She Shilan?

”I have no grudge with demons. But I am human. Those not of my kind must have different hearts. I don’t dare say all demons are evil, but human flesh and blood greatly benefit demons. That is instinct. Demons wanting to live is not wrong.”

”But if demons can live, driven by instinct, where does that leave humans? Right now there’s no choice, because Lü Mountain is above them. That’s why they claim to pursue a simple, plain life. If Lü Mountain weren’t suppressing them, then the ones wanting to pursue the simplest, plainest life would probably be humans!”

”This is an unsolvable problem. It’s the conflict between races. It’s the extreme opposition of butcher and fish. If I’m not the butcher, then I can only be the fish.”

”You think demons are good to you because you were raised by demons. I think humans are good to me because I was raised by humans.”

”So I stand irreconcilably opposed to demons!!!”

”Finally, I’ll tell you this. I was born to kill demons. In other words, to demons, I am inherently an unforgivable evil. A viper. A venomous woman. If you don’t kill me, you will definitely regret it!”

Du Zhong turned his head with a frown, looking at She Shilan: ”You...”

Suddenly.

The space shattered inch by inch. A palm strike from across the void pierced through the village’s protective barrier, landing on one of the houses, smashing it to pieces.

Startling the entire village awake.

Lu Ding stood outside the Niuxin Village array, glancing at his own palm: ”Is the power this weak?”

”It seems this place’s array has some substance to it.”

He could clearly feel that his palm force, upon entering the range of Niuxin Village, was being rapidly weakened.

Otherwise, this single palm strike would probably have obliterated the entire Niuxin Village and far beyond.

This was the first time Lu Ding had encountered such a situation.

Under the big tree in the village, She Shilan, who had followed the attack and spotted Lu Ding, didn’t recognize who the newcomer was, but seeing he was human, she didn’t care about anything else and shouted directly: ”Run!!!!!”

”Niuxin Village is a living creature’s domain. You’ll be devoured and suppressed!!!!!”

She had suffered this very fate. She had been devoured and suppressed by Niuxin Village, then brutally beaten down by Du Zhong’s inexplicable physical combo!

Unfortunately, she shouted too late.

All they saw was a semi-transparent, ferocious phantom figure materialize. It faced the sky above Lu Ding’s position, took one massive bite, and tore, pulling him together with the very space he occupied directly into Niuxin Village.

The instant he entered.

An overwhelming sensation of assimilation struck. Lu Ding felt the spiritual energy within his body vanish completely in an instant. Perhaps that wasn’t accurate. More precisely, within Niuxin Village, the concept of spiritual energy simply didn’t exist.

Just the first battle on the Demon Continent, and Lu Ding had already experienced a power of laws he had never felt before!

This was truly high-caliber stuff!!!

Without spiritual energy.

Then all spells and divine abilities would lose their source of power.

But!!!!

[Heaven-Man Unity], [White Snake Shakes Scales], and other instincts and passives were completely unaffected.

Lu Ding stood within the village, watching figures from all directions, demon warriors holding weapons, closing in on him.

Du Zhong, who had been lying on the hillside, rose to his feet and looked at Lu Ding: ”Here, there’s no concept of spiritual energy. There’s only the most basic collision of physical bodies. The ceiling is only at the pinnacle of mortal limits.”

”We just want to live ordinary lives. But you cultivators keep pushing and pressing. I...”

Lu Ding didn’t have time to listen to his nonsense. He cut him off directly: ”So, what you’re saying is, you also have no spiritual energy? Your physical bodies are also only at the pinnacle of mortal limits? And you have the numerical advantage?”

Du Zhong was a bit annoyed at being interrupted, but still answered: ”Correct.”

Lu Ding smiled.

The moment the words fell.

Behind him, She Shilan finally found her chance to strike by surprise. She threw a punch toward the back of Du Zhong’s head: ”Die!!!”

Du Zhong ducked low, turned, kicked out his leg, and sent a sweeping tiger-tail kick backward, sending She Shilan flying to crash heavily against a tree trunk. She clutched her stomach, enduring the pain: ”Bastard!!!”

Du Zhong looked at her with a complex gaze: ”You just stay here for now...”

”Ah!!!!!”

A bloodcurdling scream shattered Du Zhong’s cool pose.

He turned to look.

He saw Lu Ding spin and throw a punch, smashing a villager’s head apart on the spot. Then he spun again, kicking out like a whip. Smack!!! He shattered another person cleanly at chest level on the spot. A living human turned into shredded meat.

Like a beast charging into a flock of sheep. They simply weren’t on the same level.

Du Zhong watched with eyes nearly splitting open as the villagers who had grown up alongside him were being slaughtered one by one. He immediately leaped down the hillside, charging at Lu Ding: ”Stop it!!!!”

Lu Ding glanced back at him from the corner of his eye, the smile on his face not fading: ”Hahahaha... Let’s see if you can stop me!!!!”
