First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

Elder Shui listened on the sidelines, and the bitterness in his heart was indescribable.

His fists were clenched so tight they ached!

I know Lü Mountain is wealthy, I know Lü Mountain has everything, but do you have to show off like this?

The kid earned this himself, what’s wrong with buying a little something?

But he was also helpless.

Over the years, he truly hadn’t saved up much of a nest egg. Whatever he could donate, he donated; whatever he could give up, he gave up, leaving it for those who needed it more.

Even those two pieces of Spirit Marrow Elder Shui had given to Lu Ding when he first arrived counted as some of the few good things he still had on him.

Now, the Great-Grandmaster beside him was flaunting how grand his home was, how vast his fortune.

Elder Shui was a bit annoyed.Lu Ding was also caught a little off guard.

This they have, that they have too.

This he can’t buy, that he can’t spend on, and they get upset, saying they already have it at home.

He really did feel a bit overwhelmed by the favor.

After all, the Great Han was a nation. It had to emphasize more work, more reward, fairness and justice. At most, it could fudge the edges a little. That couldn’t compare to Lü Mountain, which was a sect by nature.

With a force like that, you can give however you want, and no one says a word.

A nation is different.

Lu Ding turned off his phone screen: ”Great-Grandmaster, this isn’t good. I haven’t even done anything yet, and I’m taking this from Lü Mountain and that from Lü Mountain. I... I’m unworthy of such generosity.”

”Unworthy!?”

The Great-Grandmaster repeated Lu Ding’s words with a crooked mouth, his voice several pitches higher: ”You’re the only seedling of my Lü Mountain’s youngest generation. If not you, then who? Some outsider?”

Those words sounded exactly like ordinary old folks coaxing their grandchildren: ’Everything we have will be yours someday.’

To Lu Ding’s ears, it felt like a delayed chance to start over from scratch.

Since he’d put it that way, what else could he do?

Just store it away for now.

He’d worry about the rest after he’d eaten his fill from Lü Mountain and come back.

He smiled: ”Thank you, Great-Grandmaster.”

Elder Shui’s fists clenched again, his eyes flickering with dim and bright lights, lost in thought.

After a long moment, Elder Shui finally spoke: ”Xiao Lu, when do you set off?”

Lu Ding blurted out his original plan: ”Tomorrow, I guess. I’ll stay with you today, and set out first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll go back to the new city first, take some time to handle and delegate matters, then depart, heading to Ji Continent first, and from Ji Continent to Lü Mountain.”

He hadn’t forgotten that on Ji Continent were his ’beloved’ parents and his ’beloved’ little brother.

He had to give them a good taste of his care.

Cure them to death!!!!!

If they dared send someone to kill Lu Ding, they’d better be ready to be torn into pieces at any moment, because he was a vengeful man who repaid every grievance!

Elder Shui stood up: ”I know you’re busy. You’d better go early then. I still have to head to the frontlines. I’ve decided—this time, for the war against the Divine Sword Holy Land, I’m going to personally command and participate in the battle.”

”After all, I’ve been in seclusion for so long. Now that my injuries are healed, it’s time for me to show myself again.”

In the past, Elder Shui had refused many things because he felt they were useless to him. A man who had suffered Heavenly Retribution was as good as done for; taking them would just be a waste.

Now, Elder Shui wanted them because many things were simply his due. He had to consider his own realm and resources, but he also had to think about Lu Ding.

He swore!!!

He would never again allow anyone to show off their wealth in front of him, right in front of Lu Ding!!!!!!

Even though this Lü Mountain old Taoist was a good man, he simply would not allow it!!!

Right now.

The relationship between Elder Shui and the Great-Grandmaster regarding Lu Ding was—

Like one was a grandfather, and the other was a maternal grandfather.

And Lu Ding was the only child of both families.

They might not come to blows, but they had to compete!

Through a subtle change in Elder Shui’s expression, Lu Ding managed to catch a glimpse of the issue amid his surprise.

Ah...

This really was...

Knowing Elder Shui’s personality, Lu Ding stood up: ”Should I see you out?”

He glanced back at the Great-Grandmaster.

The Great-Grandmaster nodded.

The two walked out together, strolling along the bamboo-shaded path leading out of the small courtyard.

Lu Ding finally asked a question he had repeatedly forgotten to bring up: ”Elder Shui.”

”I’ve always wanted to know—what exactly are the details of the Great Han’s Hundred-Year Ten Thousand Immortals Plan?”

Lu Ding knew some of it, but he didn’t have the full picture.

The Great Han didn’t broadcast the Hundred-Year Ten Thousand Immortals Plan through the internet or issue written notices. Only a few at the very top knew its core details.

After all, the Hundred-Year Ten Thousand Immortals Plan was too cruel and bloody—at least, for demons and monsters, it was.

And many nations, openly or covertly, had relationships with demons that weren’t so clearly defined. So, to prevent the world from having walls that couldn’t keep secrets, the Great Han only announced the increased exchange value for live demon contributions without revealing the plan’s inner workings.

For once, Elder Shui didn’t answer Lu Ding’s question: ”Xiao Lu, you don’t need to worry about this. Just go to Lü Mountain for your training and diplomatic mission. I’ll wait for you to come back. I’ll tell you then.”

Even though he had recovered now, who could say what the situation would be like later? If things changed, or whatever happened.

Elder Shui might still have to return to the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation and take his place at the main seat.

He knew Lu Ding too. If he told him, it would only add to Lu Ding’s worries.

Maybe it wouldn’t matter, but for now, it was better not to say anything about things that weren’t certain.

Besides, it involved such heinous acts against nature. If the Great Han could handle it on its own, Elder Shui preferred not to have Lu Ding particularly involved.

After all, there were many paths to success. There was no need to let someone with such a blindingly bright future as Lu Ding risk the karmic retribution and sins of Heavenly Retribution.

Hearing Elder Shui’s vague answer.

Lu Ding didn’t press further. He nodded: ”Alright!”

”Elder Shui, I will always stand on the same front as the Great Han. This is my home, and I’m a part of it. Don’t forget, I can also contribute to the family.”

Since Elder Shui didn’t want to say it, Lu Ding chose to respect that. When they needed him, he would be there in an instant!

Elder Shui gazed into the distance, then turned back to glance at the Thumb Ring on Lu Ding’s hand: ”Too bad it’s not something valuable.”

Lu Ding mimicked Elder Shui’s earlier gesture, twisting the ring on his finger: ”But the sentiment is worth a thousand gold.”

Elder Shui smiled: ”I’m off, Xiao Lu.”

He transformed into a streak of light and vanished.

He wanted Lu Ding to come back soon, so he could rest easy.

But he also wanted Lu Ding to take his time coming back, so the spring breeze of the Great Han could carry his reputation to the Demon Continent, to Lü Mountain, letting him return to see a brand new Great Han, to see himself restored to glory.

He was no longer that old man sitting in a wheelchair, feeling the rush of the wind as a child pushed him along. He was the Eagle King of the Great Han!!!!

Perhaps, having lost his family when young and never felt the warmth of kinship, now that he had it, he cherished it all the more. Even he himself felt he was being a bit stingy, but he didn’t want to change. He just wanted the ability to look after Lu Ding at any time!

And the status brought by that ability must be unshakable!

Unfortunately, even someone as strong as Elder Shui had those stronger than him at Lü Mountain.

All he could do was watch Lu Ding leave the Great Han and travel far to the Demon Continent.

If only he could be stronger, more powerful. If only the Great Han could be bigger, more prosperous.

If he were strong enough to suppress everything, and the Great Han were large enough to encompass the world, then no matter where Lu Ding went, he would still be within the Great Han, still be at home.

That was the deepest desire in Elder Shui’s heart, his goal, and the flame that reignited his ambition!!!

He would grip the Great Han’s long spear, conquer everything, and wage war against heaven and earth until there was no one left to fight!!!

BAM!!!

In the long sky, space shattered and collapsed inch by inch. The Peng spread its wings, tore through the void, and slashed across the sun and sky as it flew away.
