First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

.....

So when the time came, they could just say it was a misunderstanding, and settle things peacefully. In truth, it wouldn’t be that big a deal.

The 749 Bureau wouldn’t ignore an investigator’s personal wishes, right?

As for why not use a phone, or ask someone else to pass the message?

This isn’t ancient times—it’s the tech era. A phone, in front of the 749, might as well be see-through.

And passing a message? The more people who know, the higher the risk.

Cui Zao didn’t want to take that risk. He only informed Kou Jingshen because of their personal friendship—he had no intention of losing his investigator badge over this.

Leaking classified info? That’s no small offense.

“So what kind of attitude would satisfy you? They’re just advanced trainees. No matter how strong, could they be stronger than a Si Ming Realm?”“That’s a bit bold, considering the Kou Family can’t go head-to-head with the 749. But aren’t we negotiating right now?”

“Negotiating!?”

Cui Zao got visibly agitated.

“You call that negotiating? That’s stalling—dragging things out until it’s too late, asking for delays, trying to win concessions and keep your damn Feng Shui!”

“Why can’t you people think for once? Your family’s ‘Dragon Raising the Coffin Formation’ keeps growing. What the hell are you planning? Rebellion!?”

“They’re not targeting your Kou Family—they’re targeting the Feng Shui setup. That thing’s got too much impact. Nourishing your family alone has cursed half of Jinshan. Civilians have always been 749’s bottom line!!”

“Just some trainees, huh～some Si Ming Realm～”

“A regular trainee might not be able to do anything to a Si Ming Realm. But tell me—what if it’s Lu Ding?! What then!?”

“Si Ming—hasn’t he killed one already? Back in Yunhai, when he dealt with the Corpse-Shattering Taishui, he was still just in the Linghai Realm and already dared to take on a Si Ming. Now he’s just picked up a bunch of rewards from the training site—what if they gave him something heavy-duty?”

“If he breaks through to the Divine Palace Realm—Si Ming? Si your fing grandma’s knee! He’ll cleave his way from the training site straight to Jinshan—and your whole damn ancestral graveyard’s gonna get chopped to fing bits!”

That’s exactly why Cui Zao had rushed over to warn Kou Jingshen.

Others might leave room for maneuver.

Lu Ding? Cui Zao was terrified it would be him.

He stood up, pointing at Kou Jingshen: “I’ve said what I needed to say. I’m only saying this because I see you as a brother.”

“Think about it—Lu Ding’s nickname is what? ‘Corpse-Shattering Taishui.’ He’s a 749 Investigator—if you don’t know, look it up.”

“His working style, his methods—negotiate?”

Cui Zao sneered a few times: “He’ll stand on your grave and negotiate—if you can still hear him.”

“That’s it. I’m done. Your Kou Family’s got half a day, tops.”

Kou Jingshen, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke up as Cui Zao was leaving: “Half a day... that urgent?”

Cui Zao half-turned: “Urgent? Not for me. You can take your time. But Lu Ding—he’s the famous vanguard of Yunhai’s 749.”

“This morning he said he was coming for you—right after that, he was already asking where your house is. If it’s close, he’s probably there already. If it’s far, he’ll get there by noon. You figure it out.”

Kou Jingshen stood up: “Let me walk you out.”

The two walked out together and entered the CEO’s private elevator.

Back inside, the office phone started ringing—but it was too late. Neither of them heard it.

Inside the elevator,

Kou Jingshen handed Cui Zao a cigarette.

“Thanks.”

Cui Zao accepted it. “Don’t mention it. I should be the one thanking you. A few years back, I failed the college entrance exam. Pressure from my family pushed me to a dark place, and I jumped into a river.”

“Who’d have thought the big-shot CEO just happened to like fishing, and would actually fish me out.”

Kou Jingshen smiled, fingers lightly rolling the cigarette: “Yeah, crazy how things turn out. A guy who jumped into a river to escape life ends up becoming a 749 Investigator.”

“And truth is—I saved you because I wanted to beat you up. I’d baited that spot the day before, hadn’t even fished yet, and you scared all the fish away!”

The two burst into laughter.

.....

Downstairs at Kou Group’s building—people were laid out all over the floor.

The receptionist girl on the phone looked up—Lu Ding was staring straight at her.

“Done making your little warning call?”

That usually handsome face of his wasn’t winning any friendliness today.

The girl nodded fearfully, voice trembling: “N-no one picked up... b-but... the private elevator... it-it’s coming down.”

“Kou—Kou President should be... coming down too.”

“Coming down?”

Lu Ding looked a bit disappointed. Like he’d expected better.

Did she think he wouldn’t notice her sneaking a warning?

He didn’t stop her—because deep down, he was hoping Kou Jingshen would try to flee out of fear of punishment.

Would’ve saved a lot of trouble. He could’ve just turned and gone straight to the Kou residence.

But now the guy was coming down.

A surprise, but not a bad one.

“Where’s the CEO elevator?”

The girl pointed: “O-over there, the gold one.”

“Thanks.”

Lu Ding smiled back.

The girl stammered out, “Y-you’re welcome.”

Lu Ding turned to signal Bai Hemen, who had just finished mopping up the fight.

Then walked forward, stopped in front of a burly man lying on the ground, pulled out his 749 badge.

“Remember this. In the future, when someone flashes this badge—you can refuse to cooperate, and you can be unhappy, but keep that sh*t to yourself.”

“Don’t show me that ‘no one can tell me what to do’ look. Or I’ll take it as disrespect.”

The man nodded groggily.

And immediately got a soccer-style power kick to the screen—knocked out cold.

Captain Li on the side felt utterly humiliated!!!

This was his local turf—and someone else had to step in and clean it up.

Just now, when he’d brought Lu Ding and Bai Hemen in, as soon as he showed his badge, this guy—taller than him by a head—had stared back with pure disrespect.

Before anyone could say a word—

Lu Ding, from behind, had slapped him so hard his teeth flew out. The guy spun like a top.

Bai Hemen followed up with a kick.

The man was instantly sent flying over ten meters.

Then Bai Hemen soloed the rest of the Cultivators of Qi—flattened all of them.

Unknowingly, Lu Ding had taken the lead role.

He brought the two of them right to the CEO elevator.

Ding.

The elevator chimed, doors sliding open—and laughter came from inside.

Captain Li frowned in confusion, calling out: “Cui Zao?”

And looked toward the elevator...

Triangle formation—Lu Ding at the front, with Captain Li and Bai Hemen flanking him on either side.

Seeing this—

Cui Zao’s expression in the elevator froze instantly. Both their smiles vanished.

They hadn’t expected Li Kai to show up here, let alone that he’d bring... that wasn’t Lu Ding!!!

Having already looked into Lu Ding’s file, Cui Zao recognized him immediately.

It really was him this time!!

Everyone knows—smiles are transferable. When one person’s smile disappears, it has to end up on someone else’s face.

Now that Cui Zao and Kou Jingshen’s smiles were gone, Lu Ding and Bai Hemen started smiling.

“Alright, alright, I get it now. This is Infernal Affairs, huh.”

Lu Ding smiled as he said this—then raised a foot and kicked both of them in the chest.

The force of impact made the elevator rattle, and the wall behind them dented from the hit.

The two of them slowly slid down into a curled-up heap in the corner.

Lu Ding crouched down and yanked the law enforcement recorder from Cui Zao’s chest.

Turned it on—sure enough, it was off.

He glanced at Cui Zao’s shirt. Aside from the fresh wrinkles from just now, there weren’t any other creases.

Lu Ding instinctively looked behind him and only just remembered—Yan Feifan wasn’t here.

If he were, he’d probably have dug a fingerprint scanner out of that bottomless bag of his.

One scan and they’d know—were there fresh prints from someone else? Was this recorder turned off by Cui Zao himself or not?

But it didn’t matter.

There were other ways.

He held the recorder out in front of Cui Zao, who was still wheezing and couldn’t catch his breath.

“Man, you need to be a little smarter. If you ever get another chance like this—remember, have someone else turn off your recorder. Don’t do it yourself.”

“No other fingerprints? You can’t even fake a full scene properly.”

Hearing that, despite the pain, Cui Zao suddenly remembered—

Yeah, when he got into Kou Jingshen’s car, he had turned off the recorder himself.

His brief moment of hesitation made Lu Ding silently lift his hand.

When Cui Zao looked up, trying to explain—

Smack!!

The slap landed with a gust of wind.

Cui Zao felt like his brain flew out of his skull—

screen went black on the spot.
