Get Stronger by Pleasing Pokémon? Who Needs to Be a Trainer!

”Wangwang Valley? Grandpa planted a few acres, I think. Every year, he keeps some for himself and sells the rest. Why? Do you want some, Lin Feng?”

Qin Shu blinked, curiosity flickering in her eyes as she looked at Lin Feng.

She knew he’d recently become very interested in gourmet dishes, and she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of new recipes he was planning to try in his little cabin.

Lin Feng nodded. ”Save me a portion. I’ll buy it.”

The girl agreed readily. ”No problem. I’ll let Grandpa know when I get home.”

With that matter settled, Lin Feng returned once again to the orchard. From a distance, he could see a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto perched on a pine tree just outside.

Earlier, when Pidgeot had taken him out, it had left the others resting there.

Seeing so many of them together, Lin Feng couldn’t help but think how fortunate it was that his old Caterpie had already evolved and was now enjoying retirement in the barn. Otherwise, the poor bug-type would’ve been too terrified to even poke its head out.

But now came a more serious issue...

He had to train these Pidgey and Pidgeotto to learn how to deliver packages!

Lin Feng was confident that within a 300-kilometer range, they could instinctively find their way home. But accurately locating a specific house within that range, like for a food delivery?

That was another challenge entirely.

His mind drifted to scenes from anime, thinking of messenger Pokémon like Tranquill, or Pelipper with its courier capabilities.

How did they navigate so precisely?

”Maybe start with some map training?”

With that thought, Lin Feng turned to Gardevoir, who was busy harvesting ripe berries. After storing the collected berries in a storage capsule, he gently took her hand and said, ”Alright, take a break from picking. I need your help.”

”Garde?”

She looked at their joined hands in surprise but didn’t pull away. To her, this was just another affectionate interaction between Trainer and Pokémon.

After all, Lin Feng would often hold Alolan Vulpix’s paw and lift it upright while sneakily scratching her soft belly with his other hand.

The usual result? A sneeze from Vulpix that left him completely dusted in snowflakes.

Now he called over Rotom, who was currently operating a mower to harvest grass in the pasture. Together, they gathered under the pine tree.

”Pidgeotto, Pidgey? Come down here.”

”Pidgeotto?”

”Pidgey?”

The birds exchanged glances, then flapped their wings and flew down.

Their leader had instructed them to follow this human. He was their leader’s Trainer.

Some of the younger Pidgey didn’t quite understand what a ”Trainer” was.

But the leader’s boss was still the ultimate boss!

”Rotom, project a large map of Wutong City for me. As big as you can manage.”

”Roto~ Got it, Master!”

Moments later, a 4-by-4 meter holographic topographic map of Wutong City appeared in front of them.

”Gardevoir, how far can you teleport? Can you cover the entire city?”

She didn’t fully understand what he was getting at, but replied simply, ”Garde.” (I can.)

Lin Feng smiled.

”Great. Then I’ll need your help training these Pidgeotto and Pidgey. I’ll give you some Pokéblocks, and I want you to teleport around Wutong City, dropping them off in various places.

Then, using the map, the Pidgey and Pidgeotto will search for them. That way, they’ll learn to locate specific homes or shops precisely.”

It was the best idea he could come up with to train them for accurate delivery work.

Of course, the initial drop points would be nearby. Over time, the range could expand gradually.

However, Gardevoir looked a little exasperated. ”Garde?” (So I’m the laborer again?)

”Ahem...”

Lin Feng scratched his cheek, feeling a bit guilty. Of everyone, Gardevoir definitely had the hardest job.

But with her teleportation, there really was no better option for this kind of training.

He looked at her earnestly and held out a whole pouch of Pokéblocks. ”Please?”

Gardevoir floated upward and looked down at him thoughtfully. Then, to his surprise, she placed her hand on his head and gently ruffled his messy hair. ”Garde...” (Alright.)

Then she turned to the Pidgeotto, using telepathy to relay Lin Feng’s instructions. With psychic precision, she levitated the Pokéblocks one by one in front of each bird.

After tasting the first one, the Pidgeotto and Pidgey all lit up with excitement.

Gardevoir then turned to the map, marked over twenty red dots, and vanished with a teleport.

The birds, now following their instructions, flapped into the sky and soared toward Wutong City.

”…That was strange.”

Lin Feng scratched the spot on his head where she’d ruffled his hair, still a little confused.

...

Later That Afternoon

To be fair, Gardevoir had proven very effective at training the birds.

In just a single day, three or four of the Pidgeotto had already learned to locate the Pokéblocks with pinpoint accuracy.

The others were improving steadily. Some were even getting quite close just a little more practice was needed.

Lin Feng was very satisfied when he heard the progress. He rewarded all the Pidgey and Pidgeotto with a hearty meal and explained their future job.

It was simple: free food, total freedom. No obligations.

If they weren’t happy with the work, they were free to leave at any time.

Fortunately, not a single one wanted to leave. In fact, they seemed to love the ”job.”

Maybe it was because of Pidgeot, or maybe they just couldn’t part with the delicious meals.

At 4 p.m., once all the day’s Pokéblocks were sold out, Lin Feng reminded Qin Shu not to forget to ask her grandfather about selling him some Wangwang Valley goods.

The girl darted off but still turned back to call, ”Got it, Lin Feng!”

Just as Lin Feng was about to shut the door, a flicker in the setting sun caught his eye.

A faint shadow was approaching from the sky it was a Tranquill, clutching a white envelope in its beak, heading straight for the Breeding House.

”Tranquill~”

The bird slowed as it confirmed the terrain, then gracefully descended and placed the envelope in Lin Feng’s hand.

”Tranquill~”

”A letter delivery?”

Lin Feng was surprised. The Donghua League wasn’t like Paldea communication here was pretty advanced. Most people used their phones. It was rare to see anyone still sending physical letters.
