Chapter 59: Chapter 59: 2,000 Sharpshooters Clear the Night Sky! Is This Beast Tide Endless?!

In the blink of an eye, another four thousand high-tier units had been added to his army across the two barracks.

And that wasn’t even mentioning the newly acquired seven-star Corpse Exploders, an exceptionally powerful unit type.

After admiring his new troops for a while, John finally opened the military panel to check his total forces.

[Undead Dragon Knight: ×1,000 (Lv24)]

[Skeleton Spearman: ×6,500 (1,500 old units at Lv14 / 5,000 new units at Lv3)]

[Frost Mage: ×200 (Lv18)]

[Fire Mage: ×500 (Lv17)]

[Priest: ×100 (Lv3)]

[Dark Knight: ×650 (Lv14)]

[Sharpshooter: ×2,000 (Lv1)]

[Corpse Exploder: ×2,000 (Lv1)]

[Undead Sentinel: ×100 (Lv16)]

[Undead Swordsman: ×500 (Lv16)]

[Heroes in Party: Ophelia (Lv22), Raistlin (Lv19), Sylvie (Lv12), Bladeborne (Lv17)]

Looking at the impressive numbers, John let out a satisfied breath.

The Dragon Knights were the highest-level units.

After all, the Twilight Tavern had just been completed not long ago. With the help of his 10,000× Acceleration talent, the first batch had already gained five levels in a very short time.

As for the Spearmen, he had initially taken them out to farm experience. But later, as he acquired more high-star units, they simply couldn’t compete with the newer troops in battle and gradually lost their opportunities to gain experience.

The newly recruited five thousand Spearmen, meanwhile, had only fought against those few Judgment Alliance lords who had infiltrated his territory. Naturally, they were still only Level 3.

Sylvie and Bladeborne were both quite reliable. They could farm experience on their own, and the newly recruited Dark Knights accompanying them had also caught up with the earlier heroes.

However, they still lagged slightly behind Raistlin and Ophelia, who had accompanied John to fight considerably more bosses.

John then glanced at the resources in his inventory.

Current Resources

The numbers had already reached an astonishing level.

The main reason was Raine Augustus’s purchase of that four-star unit license, which had brought him an enormous amount of resources.

At this point, John didn’t just feel secure.

He was confident that even if he had to fight alone, he could take all ninety-nine players below him on the rankings and wipe the floor with them.

The last traces of light disappeared from the sky.

A row of dark red torches lit up around the territory.

”Alright.”

John rolled his wrists.

”Everyone, go eat and get some rest. We’ll be welcoming tonight’s Beast Tide soon.”

As usual, a new wave of monsters would spawn outside the territory every night after nightfall.

After eating, John climbed onto the newly added terrace of his upgraded castle. Leaning against the railing, he looked down at the pitch-black wilderness below.

”Judging from yesterday’s Beast Tide, this wave should consist of two- to three-star monsters.”

John glanced at his status panel.

”Their average level and numbers should both be higher than yesterday’s.”

[Godfall Battlefield Standard Time: 23:59:12]

He waited patiently.

Two minutes passed.

The wilderness before him remained completely silent.

There wasn’t even a trace of the next wave of monsters, let alone any sounds.

”That’s strange.”

John frowned and looked toward the time displayed in the upper-right corner.

The time was correct. It had already reached the next day.

But why hadn’t anything happened tonight?

Just as John was wondering what was going on—

”Scree!!!”

A piercing bird cry suddenly rang out overhead.

John jerked his head upward.

In the pitch-black night sky, an enormous swarm of dark silhouettes had appeared at some point, spreading across the sky like a black blanket.

[Wild Monster: Nightwing Vulture]

[Alignment: Beast]

[Rank: Three-Star]

[Level: Lv15]

[HP: 2,000]

[Attack: 300]

[Defense: 90]

[Skill 1: Diving Rend (Lv1 · Active) — Dive from high altitude to strike a single target, dealing physical damage equal to 150% of Attack. Has a 30% chance to inflict Bleed, causing the target to lose 50 HP per second for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 12 seconds.]

[Skill 2: Wingblade Gale (Lv1 · Active) — Flap its wings to unleash razor-sharp wind blades, dealing AoE damage equal to 120% of Attack to enemies within a frontal fan-shaped area and reducing their Movement Speed by 20% for 3 seconds. Cooldown: 20 seconds.]

”Flying monsters?”

John raised an eyebrow.

”No wonder they didn’t approach from the ground.”

As he spoke, the first wave of vultures had already reached the skies above his territory.

There were approximately five hundred of them, descending toward the castle walls in an overwhelming swarm.

”Crossbow Towers.”

Leaning casually against the terrace railing, John remained completely calm.

”All towers, fire at airborne targets.”

The dozens of Crossbow Towers that Gru and the villagers had constructed along the newly built city walls during the day were finally coming in handy.

[Defensive Structure: Crossbow Tower (Fine-Grade)]

[Attack: 800]

[Fire Rate: One shot every 2.5 seconds]

[Range: 500 meters]

[Special Trait: Automatically locks onto airborne targets. Piercing shots can penetrate up to 3 targets.]

Buzz!

Dozens of Crossbow Towers simultaneously turned toward the sky and opened fire.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Blood burst through the air.

Dozens of vultures at the front of the swarm were pierced by the bolts. Their bodies spun as they plummeted toward the ground, crashing into the city walls and the territory below, scattering gray feathers everywhere.

However, there were simply too many vultures. One volley was nowhere near enough to eliminate them all.

The remaining vultures began using their skills.

[Skill Activated: Diving Rend!]

More than a hundred vultures at the front of the swarm folded their wings and plunged downward like gray artillery shells, targeting the Crossbow Towers along the city walls.

Their iron-hook-like claws tore into the tower structures while their wax-yellow beaks viciously pecked at the firing positions.

-450!

-320!

-392!

Several Crossbow Towers were battered until stone fragments flew everywhere, their durability visibly decreasing.

”Not bad. They’re pretty aggressive.”

John clicked his tongue and casually waved his hand.

”Frost Mages, blanket the area with Ice Rain. Fire Mages, attack from the ground. Sharpshooters, use Arrow Rain Baptism.”

”Clear the skies!”

Two hundred Frost Mages simultaneously raised their bone staffs.

A mass of icy blue clouds gathered directly above the swarm of vultures.

Whoosh!

Thousands of ice spikes rained down, dealing massively increased damage.

-3,860! (Critical Hit!)

-4,120! (Critical Hit!)

-4,719! (Critical Hit!)

The moment the ice spikes struck the vultures’ wings, layers of frost formed across their feathers. Unable to maintain their flight, the creatures began spiraling downward.

Next, five hundred Fire Mages raised their hands simultaneously.

Fireballs shot upward like a meteor shower.

-2,450!

-2,683!

-2,610!

The two thousand Sharpshooters split into two groups.

The first group activated [Weak Point Snipe], marking several vultures at the front of the swarm.

The second group then unleashed [Arrow Rain Baptism] around the marked targets.

Two thousand bone arrows shot into the sky simultaneously, forming an incredibly dense formation.

-827!

-690!

-612!

The vultures’ HP was instantly depleted.

Their corpses began falling from the sky in waves, landing across the territory below.

Before long, every single vulture in the sky had been eliminated.

John was already smiling as he waited for the system announcement.

But—

A long time passed, and not a single notification appeared.

”Hmm?”

John frowned.

Based on the previous days, clearing a Beast Tide this quickly should have triggered a server-wide announcement.

Why was tonight so strange?

Something was clearly wrong.

He was just about to ask Sylvie whether she could sense anything unusual outside the territory when—

”Scree!!!”
