My Youth Began With Him

“Wow, that’s so soon!” Huo Mian exclaimed, genuinely happy for her friend.

“Mhm, we’ve met each other’s parents already, and they really want us to pick up the pace with the wedding. Plus, you helped last time; thanks for that ring by the way, I love it!”

“It’s not a big deal, I’m glad you like it.” Huo Mian smiled.

“But I’m worried about how you’re going to come to the wedding. A lot of people are going to be there, would it be okay for you to come?” Zhu Lingling asked worriedly.

“I’ll talk to Su Yu about it and come up with a solution… Don’t worry.”

“Okay, anyways… I really hope you can come and witness my happiness. It sucks that you and Xiaowei are already married and can’t be my bridesmaids…”

“It doesn’t matter if we’re the bridesmaids, the only thing that matters is whether you’re happy.”

“Mian… the truth is, I never thought I’d end up with Gao Ran… Back in high school, we liked each other, but after you and Qin Chu broke up, we realized that love was not as good as friendship, so we ended up swallowing our feelings for each other. I thought I only needed to live a common life and earn lots of money so I can live worry-free. I didn’t think I deserved true love… but God still thought of me. My IQ and EQ aren’t as high as you and Xiaowei, and my impulsivity led me to date bad men and almost hurt you during the process. Thank god I didn’t completely lose myself, thank god that everything was just right when Gao Ran and I saw each other again, after all these years… I’m not ambitious, I never wanted to hoard wealth. All I want is a life of peace and happiness; a man who loves me, a cute baby, and some good girlfriends… That’s it.”

“Lingling, I never knew that you had such a poetic side,” Huo Mian chuckled.

“Come on, I was trying to express my feelings, alright? I didn’t mean to show off,” Zhu Lingling retorted, a little embarrassed.

“No, you’re not, you’re completely right. It’s rare to meet someone when you’re young and end up marrying that person. The chances are next to zero. But I’m glad we didn’t change and chose to hold onto those good memories. Gao Ran’s a good man; he’s dependable and treats you well. Treasure him, okay? Don’t screw this up…”

“Ha… I won’t. I was actually really worried in the beginning. After all, Gao Ran’s dad the head of a public security bureau, but I’m just a nobody, so it felt like Gao Ran was out of my league. The good news is, I don’t have to worry anymore. His parents are amazing, never once looking down upon me because of my family background…”

“That’s a given. You won’t know unless you try, right? This world needs brave people, and only brave people will obtain true happiness,” Huo Mian slowly revealed to Zhu Lingling her own understanding of love. The latter listened to everything she said, nodding her head as she did.

“I was flattered by how they treated me. Gao Ran’s parents gave my family tens of thousands as their wedding gift and prepared a loft for us to live in on the 2nd Ring Road. Mrs. Gao also wanted to buy me a car, but I didn’t think it was a good idea… Gao Ran’s just captain of a criminal police squad, so driving a Jaguar is already a bit flashy. We’re happy with what we have.”

“What about you, Lingling? Are you going to quit your job at the airline?”
