My Youth Began With Him

“Hmm, I like this flavor a lot. Back in the old times, when conditions were hard, there wasn’t enough rice, but there were a lot of tea leaves. When I was training recruits in the mountains in the Fujian area, sometimes I was so hungry, I would just eat tea leaves to sate my hunger. In the end, this flavor became imprinted in my mind. Haha.”

“Those times were tough. It’s good that the world is peaceful now. You’ve worked hard for our country, Commander Su.”

“Heh, I didn’t do much. Everyone’s working for the country. My leaders work even harder.”

Commander Su and Mayor Song talked in a business-like manner. Neither of them rushed to talk about the main topic.

After some casual chit chat, Mayor Song started to open up to Commander Su, “Commander Su, I don’t want to lie to you. The reason why I came today isn’t just for some tea, but because I actually have something I want to talk to you about.”

After Grandpa Su heard him talking like this, he immediately turned to the guards and said, “You guys can leave.”

“But…” The guards seemed very worried.

“It’s fine. You can leave.”

“Yes, Sir.”

After the guards left, only Grandpa Su and Mayor Song were left in the huge room.

Mayor Song was a little over fifty, and he was a year or two older than Su Yu’s father.

But Grandpa Su was already more than seventy years old. So it wasn’t unusual for Mayor Song to treat him with such respect.

“Qingguo, we’ve known each other for decades. You are running things locally, while I’m in the military. Though we don’t get to work together often, I feel truly relieved seeing that you’ve developed this city so well.”

“Commander Su, don’t say that. I’ve only done what I’m supposed to do. Seeing our hometown prosper and become more developed is satisfying for me as well. I remember that I visited you once, wanting to become in-laws with you. Hehe. Later it was my daughter who didn’t have that luck and things didn’t work out. I’m sure that you’ve heard about what happened a little while ago. My dear daughter passing away at such a young age made me feel depressed recently and I couldn’t recover. I’m already over fifty, and I only have one daughter. Now that she passed away, our Song Family’s lineage will be ending here… I always feel so hurt when I think about how she’ll never come back to us.”

At this, Mayor Song’s eyes started to well up with tears.

He really spoiled his daughter. Even though she had been gone for a long time, he still couldn’t move on.

But maybe the actual reason was that the murderer who killed Song Yishi still wasn’t punished?

Mayor Song already believed that Huo Mian was the murderer who killed his daughter, so he hated her deep to the bone.

Now that that person was rescued by Commander Su, how could he feel okay about it?

“Yes, I heard about it, please accept my condolences… Life is unpredictable, and we can’t fight with fate,” Grandpa Su comforted.

“Yes, if Yishi died from a car accident or illness, I wouldn’t feel this horrible, because it cannot be controlled. But she died in such a horrible way. The media didn’t reveal all the details, but I believe you’ve heard. She was killed by someone, then her corpse was cut into pieces.”

“I’ve heard about it a little,” Commander Su nodded.

“But the murderer has already surrendered herself in the local prison. However, a few days ago, it was said that she was taken away by people from the military. She was already sentenced to death, but now that she had been taken out of prison, and I don’t understand why. I have no idea what’s going on. Also, I’ve heard that those people worked under you, so I was thinking…”

Mayor Song spoke until this point and didn’t continue. He believed that Commander Su had already understood what he was trying to get at.

Grandpa Su prepared himself mentally when he decided to come to see Mayor Song.

So after hearing what Mayor Song said, he took a deep sigh and stood up slowly with his arms behind his back.
