My Youth Began With Him

“Great. That’s excellent… Child, you must take good care of yourself.”

“Yeah. I will. Dad, you must take care of yourself, too.”

“I’m fine. Yan and I have gotten used to our situations. But you… must be more careful after the incident in Australia.”

“I will.”

“How are Pudding and Little Bean? Are they taller now?”

“Yeah. Little Bean likes to eat sweet stuff, but Pudding likes to have milk and so is a bit taller than her sister,” Huo Mian said with a smile.

“I did a physical check on them. Little Bean is a bit overweight; you must make her eat more vegetables.”

“Ha. It’s impossible. Each time when I tried to get her to eat vegetables, she’d say she’s not a bunny so why must she eat vegetables.” Huo Mian smiled through her tears.

Hearing her words, Professor Lu had a glimmer of love in his eyes.

Whenever he thought of his twin granddaughters, he felt warm inside as if everything else in the world lost its appeal.

“You must keep Yan in control when she’s there. Don’t let her mess around,” the professor instructed.

“She won’t. Yan’s so smart; I’m sure she can protect herself.”

“I’m not worried about her; I’m afraid she might hurt innocent people… Ever since she was little, bedlam breaks wherever she goes.”

“Hahaha…” Huo Mian laughed, no longer feeling melancholic.

Lu Yan pouted in a huff. “Dad, you dissed me again?”

“I was stating the facts…”

“Okay. Stop nagging. I’ll continue the delicious meal with my sister. Bye, old man.”

“Hey! I’m not finished yet…” Huo Mian didn’t want to end the call.

It was her first talk to her dad on the phone and she felt miraculous and happy.

Huo Mian valued family very much and treasured the only two people related to her by blood in the whole world.

“Sis, the old guy has many enemies… Lots of bad guys want him, so we don’t talk on phone for long. I usually talk to him for no longer than 20 seconds. In fact, I was lenient on you this time and gave you guys more than 30 seconds. If it exceeds 40 seconds, the terrorists could track the source of the callers. You don’t want to put the old man in danger, right?”

“I see…” Huo Mian lowered her eyes in melancholy.

“Don’t be sad. I’ll let you talk to him more often, even though you can say only a few sentences on the phone each time.”

“Okay.” Huo Mian nodded.

After lunch, Huo Mian took Lu Yan back to her office.

Lounging on the sofa, Lu Yan played games on a tablet lazily.

She hadn’t had this habit before, but ever since she was with Qiao Fei, she got this bad habit from him.

Whenever she got bored, she’d take out the tablet and play games; they were addictive.

“Yan, do you want to eat fruits? Shall I go and buy you some?”

“Sis, don’t trouble yourself. I don’t want to eat anything now after that big lunch. If it’s fine with you, can you get me a glass of cold water? Thank you.” Lu Yan smiled sweetly.

Huo Mian stood up and poured a glass of water from the water dispenser.

She handed the water to Lu Yan.

“Yan, how long do you plan to stay here this time?” Huo Mian asked hopefully.

“How long do you want me to stay here?” Lu Yan looked up with a smile in her eyes.

“Will you listen to me and stay as long as I want you to?” Huo Mian chuckled.
