The General's Daughter: The Mission

At the 40th floor of an exclusive building at the heart of the city, the scene at the Norse mansion played out in silence.

Not on television but in a private, encrypted feed.

The room observing it was dark and quiet enough to hear one’s breathing.

Multiple screens floated across a wall — traffic cameras, financial dashboards, live satellite overlays.

But the focus was on the center screen, which showed the Norse west wing garden.

The video was high resolution, the angles perfect.

There was no visible source. The camera was not inside the house.

It didn’t need to be.

Thermal mapping and audio triangulation translated motion and sound through reinforced glass. Subtle software enhancement filled in facial detail.

Technology did the rest.

A man sat in shadow, features indistinguishable. The only visible detail was the faint reflection of the screens in his eyes.

He did not speak. He did not shift. He simply watched.

Liam laughed at something Logan said.

Leonard placed a steady hand on his elder son’s shoulder — a gesture of approval, pride and legacy.

The observer tilted his head slightly.

”Heroes. Symbols. How Predictable,” he murmured.

On another screen, data scrolled beside Liam’s image:

Name: Liam Norse

Age: 28

Rank: Major

Girlfriend: Amelia Nades

Psychological profile: Above Average IQ; Low EQ; High mental fortitude; Highly disciplined

Strengths: Good leader; Guerrilla Warfare

Weakness: His Low EQ

Logan’s profile followed.

Name: Logan Norse

Age: 26

Rank: Lieutenant

Girlfriend: No official one, but with lots of female friends. Click the link to view names.

Psychological profile: IQ: Above Average; EQ: Above Average; Competitive; Cheerful; High mental fortitude; Impulsive

Strengths: Teamwork and Communications

Weakness: Protective of family, close to the newly acquired god sister

The man clicked on the last photo on the list

Name: Lucas Norse

Age: 22

Rank: None. Profession is Medical Doctor

Girlfriend: None, but close to Summer Vibora

Psychological profile: Above Average IQ; Average EQ; High mental fortitude; Highly disciplined

Strengths: Surgery

Weakness: Sister Complex attributed to the death of the fraternal twin

”Interesting.” The man said after exiting from the page. ”The Norse siblings are exceptionally intelligent and highly disciplined. This is quite a challenge.”

He moved to the next file.

Leonard Norse’s file required an entirely separate database cluster.

Commendations: Medal of Valor for exceptional acts of bravery in rescuing hostages; Stormwind Award for heroism in battle; Commander’s Award for superior performance and other significant achievements

Internal investigations: all cleared

Political affiliations: neutral

Public approval rating: dangerously high

The man in the dark reached forward and touched the screen lightly, stopping the feed on a single frame:

It was Leonard Norse smiling.

The screen froze, before it was zoomed out and enhanced.

The warmth in the garden contrasted beautifully with the silence in his own.

”Structure,” he murmured softly.

The voice was calm. Genderless in tone. Impossible to age.

”Every structure has stress points.”

He shifted the image from Leonard to Liam and zoomed closer.

Pulse rhythm detected through skin thermal variation. Elevated baseline — post-adrenaline state.

Young men believed in righteousness.

Belief was exploitable.

Logan’s image followed.

Micro-expressions flagged in red — competitiveness, impulsivity.

’Even better,’ the man murmured.

A secondary window opened.

Financial charts appeared beside the family portrait.

It listed investment portfolios, charitable foundations, and property deeds.

The Norse family was not extremely rich.

The observer leaned back.

He did not smile. He did not frown. He simply recalculated.

He wasn’t interested in killing heroes.

Martyrs were messy.

He preferred erosion. Reputation shifts. Media pressure. Internal doubt and division from within.

A single scandal could fracture public perception.

A single engineered mistake could stain a legacy.

A single whisper, amplified properly, could turn admiration into suspicion.

And sons—

Sons did not always move with their father’s discipline.

The room dimmed further as the feed transitioned to a rotating view of the Norse perimeter security.

Blind spots highlighted. Routine schedules logged. Visitor patterns analyzed.

The man finally spoke again.

”Observe only.”

A pause.

”Focus on Logan.”

Somewhere in the system, an instruction was logged.

No name attached. No signature.

Only a command string was routed through the entire country before disappearing into encrypted storage.

Back at the Norse home, Leonard raised his glass.

”To Victory,” he said.

Glasses clinked.

Laughter followed.

He was unaware that at the heart of the capital, the screen went dark.

But the data remained.

And Boss X never watched without purpose.

...

The man exited his secret room and entered his bedroom. He did not glance at the woman on the bed, dressed in a transparent gauze that hid nothing of her curves.

She just turned eighteen, still untouched, a budding flower, beautiful and delicate.

X opened the sliding door and stood on his balcony facing east.

In the distance, he could still picture the party at the Norse mansion wrapping up.

He lit a cigarette and inhaled the smoke deeply.

He suffered a big blow. He invested a lot in Kuta.

He did not fund insurgencies for ideology. He cultivated instability for leverage.

Nations weakened by internal conflict bought weapons.

Governments afraid of shadows expanded budgets.

Contracts were awarded quietly. Money moved invisibly.

Power accumulated.

Kuta had been one of his many pressure valves.

A controlled burn. Never meant to grow out of hand. Never meant to attract heroes.

But Leonard Norse had a habit of walking straight into carefully engineered shadows and turning on the lights.

And he hated the light.

He had silenced many men who wanted to be heroes.

The regional director in Eastern Command, who messed with his operation. The man hadn’t been arrested.

He hadn’t been exposed. He hadn’t even been publicly disgraced.

He had simply suffered a financial audit that spiraled into tax investigations... which led to frozen accounts... which led to political isolation... which led to his wife filing for divorce... which led to a quiet, efficient heart attack six months later.

Officially, he died of natural causes.

But everyone inside the network understood.

Boss X doesn’t eliminate. He dismantles.

Layer by layer. Until there was nothing left but regret.

Kuta wasn’t just a financial loss. It was an exposure risk.

Recovered weapons meant serial numbers. Encrypted devices meant data trails.

If even one analyst inside military intelligence noticed patterns...

If one ambitious young officer started asking the wrong questions...

The rot beneath the uniform could surface.

But he, X, would not hesitate to cauterize the infection.

Even if the infection wore stars on its shoulders.
