Rise Of The Lesser-Blood

Flashback

The lavish suite inside the restricted upper sector of the academy tower was dead silent, the heavy air smelling faintly of expensive cedarwood and high tier ambient mana. It was the morning after the tournament final had officially concluded beneath the open sky. Julian stood perfectly rigid by the sweeping panoramic window of his private chamber, his fingers tightening around the edge of his mahogany desk until the wood faintly groaned under the pressure. He was still thoroughly pissed off about how his final match against Thomas had ended. The sudden, uninvited intervention of the Ghost of Samra had robbed him of his absolute, definitive execution, leaving the commoner alive and breathing. Sharing a promotion to the Horsemen of Calamity with a lesser blood anomaly felt like an unyielding, toxic stain on his lineage.

He looked out over the sprawling golden rings of the Holy City, his face a completely bare, cold mask of pure frustration.

The exclusive privileges that the High blood families enjoyed inside Blackspear Academy were immense and absolute. Their personal dormitories were not even located on the same floors as those of the lesser blood students, situated instead within the highest, most secure sectors of the spire where the atmospheric mana was artificially concentrated to feed their cores. Julian’s private suite was larger than a standard High-blood room downstairs, featuring a personal runic training circle, a private bathing bath, and heavy silk draperies that completely isolated him from the noisy rabble below.

Knock. Knock.

A sudden, precise knock against the solid oak door broke the heavy silence of the suite.

Julian’s bare ebony eyes flicked toward the entrance, his jaw tightening into a hard line as his core subtly surged, a small pocket of the Crimson Void faintly warping the air currents near his knuckles. He walked across the polished marble floor, his boots crunching softly against the fine rugs, and violently pulled the heavy door open.

Standing in the dimly lit corridor was a young man with exceptionally clear skin and sharp eyes the exact colour of the mid afternoon sky. The visitor looked to be barely older than Julian himself, his stature carrying a calculated, fluid grace that instantly commanded attention. Even a first year prodigy like Julian had already heard of his name. It was Darian Calagher, a prominent second year student who had already solidified his reputation as one of the strongest seniors in the entire year two block despite carrying a Grade A Utility talent.

Darian took a single, measured step forward, his sky blue eyes blinking smoothly as he offered a low, structured bow that carried an immaculate aristocratic precision.

”Good evening, your lordship,” Darian said, his tone perfectly level.

Despite both of them being prominent High-bloods born into ancient lineages, Julian was positioned incredibly high up the natural pecking order of the kingdom. His family bloodline commanded absolute supremacy over the standard noble houses, a reality that even a powerful second year student had to explicitly respect within the academy walls.

Julian simply offered a single, rigid nod of his head, his striking ebony eyes entirely bare as he looked down his nose at the senior. ”What is it you want, Calagher?” Julian asked, his elegant voice carrying an icy, unyielding authority that brook no argument.

Darian glanced subtly over his shoulder toward the empty, sweeping stone hallway before looking back at Julian’s face. ”Could I come inside your quarters, your lordship?” the senior asked quietly, his voice dropping into a cautious whisper. ”I cannot discuss this matter out here in the public corridor. After all, who knows who might be listening in the shadows of these upper sectors.”

Julian stared at him for a few long, grueling moments, his piercing analytical gaze searching the senior’s clear face for any hidden signs of deception. Finding nothing but an intense, calculated focus, Julian slowly stepped back into the shadows of his room, opening the door wider to let him in.

Darian stepped into the luxury suite, his sky blue eyes instantly scanning the vast, opulent dimensions of the room. He let out a low, breathy whistle of genuine admiration, his gaze lingering on the glowing gravity runes etched into the center of the floorboards.

”Wow,” Darian murmured softly, a faint, polite smirk playing at the edge of his lips as he turned back to Julian. ”This is incredibly nice, your lordship. It is significantly bigger in comparison to my own room. The academy administration truly knows how to treat a successor.”

Julian ignored the flattery entirely, his posture remaining perfectly straight as he crossed his arms over his white uniform jacket. ”State your business, senior. I am not one for small talk.”

The polite, casual smirk instantly vanished from Darian’s clear face, his entire presence turning intensely serious as he took a step closer to the mahogany desk. He leaned in slightly, his sky blue eyes locking onto Julian’s bare gaze with an unshakeable, dark focus as he proposed his precise plan to the freshman. He detailed a structured, coordinated extraction mission to abduct one of Thomas’s close companions, using the hostage as an absolute kinetic lever to violently break the lesser-blood’s unyielding spirit.

Julian’s brow violently furrowed into a sharp, deep frown as the details of the plan filled the room. A look of supreme, unadulterated disgust washed over his aristocratic features, his raw mana output instantly spiking as he glared at the second year student.

”Forget about it,” Julian spat coldly, his voice dripping with an absolute, venomous contempt that made the cedarwood furniture vibrate. ”Thomas is my prey, and my prey alone. No one else in this academy is supposed to get involved in his destruction. If you think I will allow a collection of secondary houses to meddle in my business, you are out of your mind.”

But Darian didn’t back down. Instead of retreating from the terrifying weight of the freshman’s Grade S aura, the senior took a firm, heavy step up to Julian, closing the physical gap between them until they were standing mere inches apart. His sky blue eyes lost all of their previous, polite submissiveness, a cold, dangerous finality settling over his sharp features as he lowered his voice into a chillingly quiet octave that gave the luxury suite actual chills.

”This is the collective will of the many High-blood houses, Julian,” Darian whispered intensely, his breath cold against the air currents. ”The lesser-blood has thoroughly humiliated our collective order on a national stage. If your lordship has an absolute problem with how we intend to restore the balance, I suggest you take it up directly with the heads of the Houses. We are moving out, with or without your support.”

Without waiting for Julian to release a single word of response, Darian turned cleanly on his heel, his dark sophomore uniform fluttering behind him as he marched toward the threshold. He checked the door handle, stepped out into the quiet corridor, and slammed the heavy oak door shut behind his exit, leaving the room to drop back into a freezing, suffocating quiet.

Julian stood entirely alone at the center of his luxury room, his fists clenching so tightly that cracks began to spread along the polished marble tiles beneath his boots.

The High-blood families were already moving their pieces across the board, setting a chaotic, uncontrollable trajectory that threatened to completely shatter the sacred honor of the High-blood name.
