Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

A month passed.

The Huang Family gradually recovered from the wounds left by the beast tide. The scenes of mourning in every household slowly faded, replaced by new hope, and life returned to a semblance of calm.

At this moment, within Lin Yan’s dream, he held a Gu worm shaped like a perfectly round, four-colored pearl. In the distance, dozens of dream figures each refined it. One after another, their auras surged, breaking through their current level.

”What I wanted was a Gu worm to improve aptitude... yet what I obtained is something that directly raises cultivation.”

Lin Yan frowned slightly, his expression thoughtful. After careful reflection, the reason became clear.

His attainment was still not high enough. Although he had already stepped into quasi-Master attainment in the Refinement Path, his foundation in the Human Path was still shallow. Compared to a true Master, the gap was significant.

The insight gained from his breakthrough to dual quasi-Master attainment a month ago had only allowed him to greatly simplify his original Gu recipe. He retained a few key materials suspected to belong to Human Path and recombined them, eventually succeeding in refining a completely new Gu worm without any side effects.

This new Gu worm used Relic Gu as its core, so its appearance closely resembled that of a Relic Gu.

Its effect was direct and astonishing—it allowed a Gu Master at the peak of any rank to break through their barrier and advance to the next major level. Because of this, Lin Yan named it Obstacle Breaking Gu, also known as the Five-Colored Relic Gu.

This Gu complemented Relic Gu perfectly. As long as sufficient resources were available, it could theoretically allow a Gu Master to advance all the way to Rank 5 Peak in a single day.

Lin Yan had originally explored ideas in this direction before, but his focus had always been on creating a Gu worm that could improve aptitude. He had not expected that this unintended path would yield such results.

This Gu formed a complete series, ranging from Rank 5 down to Rank 2, with Rank 2 as the lowest level.

When refined using a Red Steel Relic Gu, it produced a two-colored Obstacle Breaking Gu, capable of helping a Rank 1 Gu Master break through to Rank 2. When refined with a White Silver Relic Gu, it produced a three-colored Obstacle Breaking Gu, assisting a Rank 2 Gu Master in advancing to Rank 3. Following this pattern, each higher tier corresponded to a higher breakthrough.

This also led Lin Yan to another thought. If one were to reverse refine a Green Copper Relic Gu, could it transform into a Hope Gu specifically used to open apertures? The idea was not entirely unreasonable—after all, these all belonged to Human Path Gu worms.

Lin Yan currently possessed a Yellow Golden Relic Gu, which could be used to refine a four-colored Obstacle Breaking Gu. With it, he could directly step into Rank 4 without any side effects.

He had already tested this aspect thoroughly. One month in reality equaled nearly twenty months of experimentation within his dream realm. After repeated observation and even dissection, the conclusion was clear—the dream figures who had used Obstacle Breaking Gu of various ranks showed no abnormalities. Their bodies, combat ability, primeval essence, and even their souls remained completely stable.

There were no hidden drawbacks. Subsequent breakthroughs into minor stages remained consistent with each individual’s innate aptitude.

From this, the underlying principle became clear, and it also explained why there were no side effects.

Relic Gu could only help a Gu Master break through minor stages within the same rank. It could not overcome the barrier between major ranks. The reason was simple—even a powerful White Silver Relic Gu was still only Rank 3. If it could push a Rank 3 Peak Gu Master directly into Rank 4, causing a qualitative transformation, it would violate the fundamental limits of the Gu itself.

On the other hand, a Yellow Golden Relic Gu was already Rank 4. The Human Path foundation contained within it was sufficient to support a Rank 3 Gu Master in crossing that qualitative boundary. By incorporating a few Human Path elements and subtly adjusting its effect, it could be transformed into an Obstacle Breaking Gu.

The process, once understood, was not complicated.

Then the question arose, Why had no one in the Gu world managed to develop it before?

Lin Yan felt that the amount of Relic Gu he had consumed during the research and development process within his dream alone would be something even a Rank 6 Gu Immortal could hardly afford.

Moreover, Rank 6 Gu Immortals had no need for such methods. Relic Gu only existed up to Rank 5. For them, there were many other Gu capable of accelerating the cultivation of their juniors, and the cost was far lower.

In addition, for a Gu Master to break through a major level, if their aptitude was good, it usually only required one or two days, at most around ten days. It was often a one-time breakthrough, completely different from the slow grinding required for minor stages. On the contrary, those with poor aptitude could remain stuck before a major level for their entire lives.

Because of this, whether to keep Relic Gu and use it after breaking through to save time, or to refine it into Obstacle Breaking Gu to assist in the breakthrough, ultimately depended on personal choice.
