Saving The Monster Race Starts With Breeding The Elf Village

But even though Luca said that he didn’t mind, she couldn’t accept it and wanted to say something back.

But before Lily could protest, Luca grinned, a slightly lopsided grin given the still-healing state of his face.

”But Lily, you know what hurts more than being burned alive?”

He asked, his eyes twinkling mischievously, a spark of his usual playful self shining through the monstrous exterior.

”Seeing that sad look on your face, Lily. It’s...It’s really quite distressing.”

”So come on, give me a smile. A real one. The kind that lights up your whole face, you know the one.”

His cheesy words, so unexpected amidst the surrounding tragedy, had the desired effect. Lily couldn’t help but smile, a genuine smile that chased away some of the lingering despair.

She even blushed slightly, her cheeks warming despite the soot and tears that streaked her face.

She found herself thinking, rather absurdly, that even looking like a creature from a horror movie, he still possessed an undeniable charm, a magnetism that she couldn’t resist.

She felt an irrational, almost overwhelming urge to spend the rest of her life with him, even in this...transformed state.

The thought, so outlandish given the circumstances, made her blush even more.

But then, the harsh reality of the situation crashed down on her, extinguishing the fleeting warmth of her smile. Her expression turned wry, melancholic.

”But even though you say that I don’t know if I can smile anymore, Luca.”

She said, her voice heavy with the weight of her losses.

”Everything...Everything is gone. My bakery, my livelihood, my daughter’s future...It’s all burning to the ground.”

She gestured towards the inferno, the flames now licking at the sky, devouring the remains of her dream, her hard work, her everything.

Luca shrugged, his movements still slightly jerky and unnatural due to his injuries.

”We can rebuild.” He said simply, his voice carrying an almost unsettling certainty. ”Start from the beginning. A fresh start.”

Lily sighed, a sound filled with weariness and resignation.

”It’s not that easy, Luca.” She explained, her voice heavy with despair. ”I invested all my savings into expanding the bakery. I took out a loan and I doubt the insurance will cover everything.”

”We were just starting to get somewhere and now...”

She trailed off, unable to articulate the depth of her disappointment and fear.

She expected him to offer some comforting words, some platitudes about resilience and perseverance, the usual well-meaning but ultimately hollow reassurances.

Instead, he surprised her yet again.

”That’s not a problem at all.” He said, a mysterious glint in his dark, still-intense eyes. ”That little issue will be taken care of in a few minutes.”

”onsider it...a little help from my side. You’ll be able to rebuild your shop, no problem.”

Lily stared at him, utterly confused. She didn’t understand what he meant, but after everything she had witnessed, after seeing him walk through fire and regenerate before her very eyes, she had learned not to question him too much.

A part of her, a small, hopeful part, clung to his words, even though she couldn’t fathom how such a thing could be possible. She managed a small, genuine smile.

At the end of the day, her daughter was safe. That was all that truly mattered. She felt blessed, incredibly blessed, to have been saved twice by this enigmatic, almost supernatural man.

She was just beginning to contemplate how she could ever repay him when Luca suddenly turned to her, his expression shifting slightly, becoming more serious.

”Well...” He said, his voice tinged with a strange note of finality. ”I should probably get going. I...probably won’t be seeing you for a while.”

Lily’s eyes widened in shock.

”What? Why?” She asked, her voice laced with panic. ”Is there something wrong? Is there anything I can do? Please, Luca, don’t leave.”

She pleaded, reaching out and taking his hand in hers. His touch, even through the charred skin, sent a shiver down her spine.

Luca simply shook his head, a sad smile tugging at the corner of his still-healing lips. He gently pulled his hand away from hers.

”I can’t stay here any longer, Lily.” He said softly. ”After...being seen like this...”

He gestured vaguely towards the crowd of onlookers in the distance, their faces full of shock, fear, and morbid curiosity.

”...I won’t exactly have the most peaceful life.”

Lily understood. Even though she was willing to accept him, to see beyond the burns, she knew that not everyone would be so understanding.

The sight of him, the way he had regenerated, would be too much for many people to comprehend. He would be an object of fear, speculation, possibly even persecution.

A fresh wave of sadness washed over her. It was her fault, she thought, her fault that he had to leave.

If she hadn’t...

But Luca quickly cut off her train of thought.

”Hey.” He said, his voice warm and reassuring. ”It’s not your fault. I was thinking of exploring the world again anyway.”

”This...This just makes the timing...convenient.”

He gave her a warm, genuine smile, the kind that made her heart flutter, even though it was somewhat distorted by his injuries.

Seeing that smile, understanding the selflessness behind it, made Lily realize just how lucky she had been to meet a man like Luca.

He always put others needs before his own, even if it meant walking through a sea of fire. She knew she would never forget him, even if he disappeared from her life forever and she wanted to make sure of it.

So, as Luca turned to leave, offering a final, silent goodbye, Lily, driven by an impulse she couldn’t suppress, reached out and grabbed his hand again.

He turned back, his eyes meeting hers. She blushed, her cheeks flushing as she hesitantly said before she got too scared to do so,

”Luca, before you go...could you...could you possibly leave me with something...t-to remember you by?”

Luca immediately understood. A slow, devastatingly charming smile spread across his face, the effect amplified by the contrast with his still-healing burns.

He then didn’t wait any longer and pulled her closer, his touch surprisingly gentle. Then, before she could react, he leaned down and kissed her.

”Kiss!♡~”

It was a deep, lingering kiss, a kiss that spoke volumes of unspoken emotions, a kiss that she knew she would cherish for the rest of her life.

When Lily opened her eyes, the kiss was over, and Luca was gone.

Vanished...It was as if he had never been there at all, a figment of her imagination conjured from the smoke and fire.

Except for one thing: the lingering taste of ash on her lips, a strange, almost unsettling reminder of the extraordinary events that had just transpired.

She touched her lips lightly, a faint blush creeping up her soot-stained cheeks.

Was it love she was feeling? Had she actually fallen for...a monster?

The thought was both terrifying and exhilarating, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions swirling within her.

Bzzzz!

But just then, her phone buzzed in her hand, pulling her out of her reverie.

Assuming it was a message from a well-meaning friend or neighbor checking on her after hearing about the fire, she pulled out her phone to read it.

But what she saw made her breath catch in her throat.

It wasn’t a message at all.

It was a notification from her bank.

A money transfer notice.

A very large sum of money had been deposited into her account. And the amount...it was the exact amount she would need to rebuild her bakery, to start again, without any financial worries.

It was as if the person who had sent it had known, had anticipated her every need, as if he possessed some uncanny ability to see into the future.

And as she was still reeling from this unexpected windfall, trying to reconcile the practical reality of the money with the almost magical nature of its arrival, she noticed a small note attached to the transaction details.

It read: ”I really enjoyed the taste of yours lips earlier, Lily, more so than the cakes you make. So, when you rebuild the bakery, I won’t simply be coming back to eat a pastry, but something much sweeter as well - Luca”

Lily’s blush deepened, her cheeks burning like the embers of the fire that had just consumed her livelihood.

The implication of his words, the playful yet undeniably suggestive tone, sent a shiver of excitement, tinged with a touch of apprehension, through her. Her loins, as Luca so bluntly put it, were definitely on fire.

She wondered, not for the first time, just who, or what, this man, this monster, she had fallen in love with truly was.

He was a walking paradox, a mystery wrapped in an enigma, a terrifying force of nature capable of unimaginable destruction and yet, at the same time, capable of the most tender, selfless acts of kindness.

He was a monster with a heart of gold, or perhaps something even more complex, something that defied easy categorization.

She looked up at the night sky, the stars twinkling brightly above the charred ruins of her bakery, a stark contrast to the destruction below.

A renewed sense of hope, fueled by Luca’s mysterious gift and his even more mysterious words, filled her heart.

She knew what she had to do. She would rebuild her bakery. She would make it even better than before, a testament to her resilience and a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.

And she would wait.

She would wait for Luca, for the man who had walked through fire for her and her daughter, for the man who had kissed her with the taste of ash and the promise of something much sweeter to come.

She would wait, patiently and expectantly, for their paths to cross again, for the chance to unravel the mystery that was Luca, the man, the monster, the savior who had stolen her heart.

...But while Lily was lost in her dreams of Luca, Luca himself was having a rather different experience.

He was currently sprinting through a nearby park, the dark silhouette of the lake shimmering in the distance.

As he ran, he wasn’t the picture of stoic heroism he had presented to Lily. Instead, he was letting out a series of absurd, high-pitched screams.

”Aaaaaah! It burns! Everything burns!” He yelled, his voice echoing through the quiet park. ”My legs! My arms! My face! I feel like a giant, walking, talking barbecue!”

He stumbled over a tree root, nearly falling, then righted himself with a groan.

”Ow! My everything! Seriously, who invented fire? Cruel, cruel invention! And don’t even get me started on the pain! It’s like a thousand tiny demons are tap-dancing on my nerves!”

He paused, leaning against a park bench, panting heavily.

”That’s it.” He wheezed. ”I’m never doing that again. Walking through fire? Terrible idea. Absolutely terrible. I mean, sure, it looked cool, all dramatic and heroic. But seriously, the pain! It’s...It’s indescribable!”

”I was just trying to keep a cool act in front of the ladies, you know? Gotta maintain the mystique. But inside? Inside, I was screaming! Screaming like a little girl!”

He straightened up, wincing as his charred skin stretched.

”Okay, okay.” He muttered to himself. ”Gotta keep moving. Gotta get to the lake. Cool water...gotta have cool water...before I spontaneously combust.”

He started running again, his screams continuing, though slightly muffled now as he focused on reaching the lake.

”And next time.” He declared to the empty park. ”Next time, I’m bringing a fire extinguisher. And maybe a hazmat suit. And definitely some pain medication...Lots and lots of pain medication.”

Just then, the shimmering surface of the lake came into view, and Luca, despite his agonizing burns, surged forward with renewed vigor.

”Oh, sweet, merciful water!” He cried, his voice still tinged with pain but now laced with anticipation. ”I’m coming, baby! Prepare for a full-body immersion!”

He reached the edge of the lake and, without a moment’s hesitation, dove in headfirst.

Splash~

The icy water enveloped him, and he let out a long, drawn-out sigh of pure bliss.

”Ahhhhhh! Refreshing! So...incredibly...refreshing!”

He exclaimed, floating on his back, his charred limbs slowly starting to feel less like they were on fire.

”It’s like...like being reborn! Even though, when in actuality, whenever I come back from the dead it hurts like hell.”
