Serpent Ancestor

”Why are you all looking at me? Did I say something wrong? What did I say wrong?”

Xiao Chou was utterly confused and looked to Xu Hei for help.

”If you can talk, then talk more...” Xu Hei muttered to himself.

”Crunch!”

Suddenly, Hei Huang bit down hard on Xiao Chou’s thigh, producing a sound of bones breaking.

Instantly, a piercing scream echoed through the valley once again.

...

Outside the valley, on a distant peak.

A white-haired old ape gazed far into the valley.

Beside him stood a massive golden-winged eagle, its feathers sharp as swords, and its talons like steel blades that could easily crush refined iron. This was a great demon at the Foundation Establishment stage.

”You say there are two demonic snakes in that valley, carrying a large number of pills, spending their days in a misty haze?” The golden-winged eagle asked in confusion.

”That’s right, these two demonic beasts must be hiding a big secret,” the white-haired old ape said in a deep voice.

The golden-winged eagle nodded, ”I understand.”

With a flap of its wings, it stirred up a violent wind and disappeared.

The white-haired old ape’s face was stern, a cold glint flashing in his eyes as he followed behind.

...

In the valley.

Hei Huang took out a large number of formation flags and placed them around the cave dwelling, setting up a formation to conceal their presence. Even a Foundation Establishment cultivator passing by might not detect it.

He then took out a spirit jade and handed it to Xu Hei, saying, ”This item can automatically detect powerful cultivators within a hundred-mile radius. If danger approaches, the jade will turn red. The deeper the color, the stronger the opponent, but it only works on humans.”

Xu Hei carefully put the spirit jade into his storage bag. With this treasure, he wouldn’t need to patrol every day to check for approaching humans.

Next, Hei Huang began to explain some experiences from the Foundation Establishment stage, talking non-stop. Although Xu Hei found it annoying, he remembered every word.

Hei Huang looked at Xu Hei, silent for a moment, then said, ”By the way, Xu Hei, I’m here to say goodbye.”

”What?” Xu Hei was stunned.

Hei Huang pondered for a while and said, ”I found a place of extreme yin, very suitable for my cultivation. I plan to go into seclusion for a while.”

Xu Hei suddenly understood.

No wonder he gave him the spirit jade for detecting enemies, set up formations, and explained Foundation Establishment. So that’s why.

However, Xu Hei was already used to it. Even if Hei Huang wasn’t around, he could handle most crises on his own.

Xu Hei calmly asked, ”How long will you be in seclusion?”

”I’ll come out once I’ve absorbed all the yin energy there. It could be as short as half a year or as long as three to five years. This amount of time is nothing. Cultivators have long lifespans; a single seclusion can easily last ten years, passing in the blink of an eye,” Hei Huang said nonchalantly.

For someone who had slept for two hundred years, this amount of time was indeed nothing.

Xu Hei, however, had never experienced such a long time. Since his awakening, it had been less than two years.

He said nothing, just nodded.

”By the way, I have something for you to save your life.”

Hei Huang dug around his waist and pulled out a pale golden storage bag, tossing it over.

”Don’t open this storage bag yet. Only open it when you’re in a life-and-death situation. The item inside can give you a fifty-fifty chance against any opponent, but remember, it can only be used once, so don’t waste it,” Hei Huang reminded.

Xu Hei took the storage bag and swallowed it.

”Go ahead, are you afraid I’ll die?” Xu Hei said.

”You...”

Hei Huang was speechless.

”Forget it, I’m leaving. I hope next time we meet, you’ll be a Foundation Establishment great demon.”

Hei Huang said no more, stepping into the air and flying into the mountains, carried by a gust of black wind.

He flew towards the depths of the Wu Mountain Range, a place full of dangers but also many ancient tombs with heavy yin energy.

Xu Hei watched Hei Huang until he disappeared from sight.

Who knows what the next meeting will be like.

”That troublemaker finally left.”

Xiao Chou breathed a sigh of relief, rubbing his throbbing thigh, wincing in pain.

Compared to Hei Huang, this snake seemed much more agreeable, at least it didn’t bite people randomly.

Only now did he realize how gentle Xu Hei was.

After Hei Huang disappeared, Xu Hei took out the pale golden storage bag he had just received.

”I wonder what’s inside. I’m really curious.”

Xu Hei was itching to open it.

A fifty-fifty chance against any opponent? Even Qi Condensation cultivators?

He instinctively wanted to open it and take a look, but feared that something powerful might come out.

He decided against it.

”Oh, I forgot something.”

Xu Hei suddenly remembered something important.

That old dog still hadn’t given him the puppet he promised.

...

In the sky ten thousand meters high, white clouds filled the sky, and among them, a golden-winged eagle circled, overlooking the land below.

With the eagle’s vision, it could easily see through the clouds and observe the valley below.

The white snake was gone, probably hiding in the cave. Outside, only the black snake and the human were left, both at the late Spirit Communion stage.

”What nonsense about pills, the old ape just wants to use me to eliminate his enemies. His little scheme is quite clear.”

The golden-winged eagle had been observing for a long time and hadn’t seen them taking any pills, feeling quite disdainful.

But it didn’t care.

In the animal kingdom, symbiotic relationships were common, and demonic beasts were no exception.

Coincidentally, eagles were natural enemies of snakes, making it easy to deal with them. As for the human cultivator, the old ape would handle that.

Eating two snake demons would make the trip worthwhile.

”Let’s move!”

The golden-winged eagle flashed and dove down.

Its speed was like lightning. An eagle demon’s diving speed could reach a thousand meters in a breath, almost in the blink of an eye, it had dived from the clouds to the ground.

At this moment, Xu Hei and Xiao Chou were both meditating.

Suddenly, Xu Hei felt a tingling sensation on his scalp. Almost reflexively, he burrowed into the ground, fully activating the Earth Escape Technique.

”Smash!!!”

A pair of massive eagle talons struck the ground where Xu Hei had been, tearing open a huge gash in the rock, with powerful force penetrating the ground, aiming straight for Xu Hei’s back.

Without hesitation, Xu Hei turned his lower body to face the force and activated the golden shield talisman.

”Clang!!!”

The golden shield talisman was instantly torn apart, but the force struck Xu Hei’s lower body, which was covered in Black Gold Scales. The metallic sound rang out, sparks flew, and the attack left him unscathed, though it sent him flying, deeply embedding him in the soil.

Having missed its target, the eagle demon swiftly flew back into the sky, disappearing into the clouds.

”That was close, it’s a Foundation Establishment great demon! Why is it targeting me?” Xu Hei’s face was grim.

Eagles were natural enemies of snakes, having a restraining effect.

If not for his impenetrable scales, that strike could have taken off half his tail.

Being targeted by an eagle was not a good thing.

However, demonic beasts were different from humans. The eagle was after him for his flesh, which was simpler than human motives.

Xiao Chou was also scared and hid underground.

”That scared me to death. How did I get so unlucky to encounter a Foundation Establishment great demon?” Xiao Chou’s face was pale.

Xu Hei said nothing, pondering how to lure that feathered beast down.
