Empire of Shadows

Car doors not specially modified are not bulletproof, so when the firepower is concentrated, hiding in the car is equivalent to lying in a coffin in advance.

No one knew which car Will was in, but whoever dared to lift their head, they would focus fire on that car.

From the moment Lance got back into the car and floored the accelerator until now, at most three or four minutes have passed, maybe five minutes, but possibly less.

The smell of gunpowder after firing was intoxicating; some people liked this smell, as well as the smell of gasoline and banana oil.

Some people also liked the smell of paint. In short, there would always be people who liked different smells.

The clicking sound of the empty firing pin made Ethan throw the submachine gun aside, pull out his pistol, and fire another burst of bullets at the nearest car.

At this moment, the gunfire gradually subsided. The convoy stopped on the road, riddled with holes. Blood flowed continuously from the gaps between the car doors and the chassis.

Slowly, thickly, dripping onto the ground.

But there must still be survivors inside, and probably more than one.Searching each car for survivors now was not a good option; it was very dangerous. Lance did not want any accidents to happen, although an accident had already occurred.

The surroundings were exceptionally quiet due to the dense gunfire. He took out his pistol and fired several shots at the car’s fuel tank. The bullets pierced the fuel tank, and gasoline began to flow out of the bullet holes. The others also realized Lance’s intention and all began firing at the fuel tanks.

“I thought it would explode!” Ethan felt a little disappointed that he didn’t see fireworks.

There was already a strong smell of gasoline at the scene. Lance sat in the car, took out a match, and lit it.

At that instant, its incandescent glow illuminated his expressionless face. He casually tossed it, and the match landed on a puddle of gasoline.

Soon, all seven cars were set on fire. Suddenly, someone pushed open a car door and rushed out, shouting, but was immediately gunned down.

Feeling the raging flames around him, Will could no longer hide.

He shouted, “Don’t shoot, I’m unarmed, I’m Will…”

He pushed open the door, raised his hands high, and struggled to climb out of the car.

As he left the car, he stumbled over something, and his knees hit the ground.

The gritty ground caused him excruciating pain. Everyone could hear the sound of bone hitting concrete, a sound that made their teeth ache.

He endured the pain, stood up awkwardly, and looked around, somewhat bewildered and dazed.

More people rushed out of the burning cars, but they weren’t as lucky as Will, and quickly became corpses on the ground under a hail of bullets.

Lance got out of the car and looked at him.

This was the first time Lance and Will stood face to face, but also the last.

“Let me go, name your price,” Will tried his best to keep his voice from trembling. He dared not speak forcefully, as any effort would expose his fear.

Instead, speaking softly, the tremor in his voice was less noticeable.

Lance shook his head, exhaled a puff of smoke. The firelight illuminated both men, one with a heart as hot as the flames, but the other so cold.

“You can’t afford the price, Will.”

Lance glanced at Ethan, extended his hand, and motioned for him to hand over the gun. Ethan complied, but he gave him a submachine gun.

He glared at Ethan, then looked back at Will and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. He felt a bit awkward. “Sorry, I… didn’t think of using this.”

Will was still trying, “Listen, let’s end this here, I’ll give you all my wealth from these years…”

Rat-a-tat-tat!

Lance, holding the submachine gun, didn’t wait for him to finish speaking, and pulled the trigger completely, riddling him with bullets in Will’s disbelieving gaze.

The firelight illuminated only half of Lance, one half in the flames, the other hidden in the shadows. He stood there with his legs slightly apart, until he could no longer fire another bullet!

The night wind lifted his trench coat and blew off his hat.

After emptying an entire magazine, he handed the submachine gun back to Ethan, his hand feeling a little numb.

Will was not completely dead, but his life had entered its final countdown.

He lay on the ground, his body twitching constantly with the desire to survive. His body seemed to be making a final effort to stay, to remain in this world.

But the possibly one pound of bullet fragments inside him wouldn’t give him that chance.

He vomited a mouthful of blood, his eyes already dim. He was still looking at Lance, seemingly questioning him why he didn’t let him finish speaking.

Lance bent down, picked up his hat from the ground, dusted it off twice on his clothes, and then put it on, a slightly mocking smile on his face, his chin slightly tilted. “I told you, you can’t afford the price.”

After speaking, he returned to the car, and the convoy set off again, quickly disappearing into the night. Officer Lukar, who had just arrived at Senlin Lake Villa, looked at the empty police car and the empty villa.

He cursed two very foul words, then floored the accelerator and got onto the highway.

He thought the people here hadn’t left yet, but he didn’t expect that not only had they left, but his subordinates were also gone!

He swore that no matter what, he would make Will pay!

He sped up as fast as he could. The two officers in the back seat turned slightly pale. At this moment, the radio suddenly broadcast an all-channel dispatch message—

“…Imperial District…road section, dense crossfire incident, repeat, dense crossfire incident on this road section, suspected automatic weapons.”

“Nearby patrol officers, please support the scene as soon as possible, please be careful…”

Lukar sharply turned the steering wheel and drove towards the scene.

Ten minutes later, he arrived at the scene. The flames were still burning. He showed his badge and entered the scene, feeling extremely annoyed as he looked at the scene, which had almost nothing left to burn.

“Where are the fire trucks?” he looked around. “It’s all burned down, where are the fire trucks!”

Just as he spoke, the fire trucks finally arrived, having rushed as fast as they could. The firefighters, clearly roused from their sleep, dutifully connected the fire hydrants, looking at the scene that was almost extinguished naturally.

Watching them flush away the last possible remaining evidence, Officer Lukar held his head and kicked the ground hard—the kind where the tip of the shoe scrapes along the ground.

But coincidentally, his heel got scraped off by the rough ground!

“F***!” Officer Lukar’s roar made everyone actively keep their distance from him.

He walked back and forth several steps, then suddenly ran to the ground next to the morgue van, pulling open each body bag. When he saw Will’s face, he suddenly turned and ran back.

He got into his car, started it immediately, floored the accelerator, Lance!

If he found Lance now, he could arrest him directly!

However, it was clear that he couldn’t find Lance.

Lance was in a public phone booth, holding the surgeon’s business card. “…I’m sorry to call you so late, but I’ve really encountered some trouble.”

“Yes, I know, but the situation is very special right now.”

“Listen, we don’t have much time. On one side, there’s twenty thousand dollars and my friendship; on the other, there’s my wrath. How do you think you should choose?”

“…Okay, no problem, of course. I remember. Wait for me…”

After he hung up the phone, he gave a location, and the convoy immediately set off again.

Some people were shot, and not just one. Lance even wondered if they might have shot their own people. In this darkness, everyone was circling Will’s convoy and shooting, so no one could guarantee that every shot hit where it was supposed to.

Ethan, that idiot, got shot in the thigh. At first, he didn’t feel it until his pants got wet.

Lawn was shot in the arm, and others were also shot. To Lance’s surprise, Hiram, who had stuck his entire body out of the car window, was completely unharmed!

Four people were shot, and several others were injured, though it was unclear how they were injured. Two of them needed stitches.

Having just engaged in a firefight, going to a large hospital now would only invite trouble. He thought of the doctor who operated on Elvin last time.

Lance liked this kind of doctor who had good surgical skills and was willing to take on private work.

Although the initial communication wasn’t smooth, it was resolved now.

There was no one in this world who couldn’t be persuaded. If you couldn’t persuade someone, it must be because you offered the wrong terms.

The doctor had a friend, and that friend had a private clinic with surgical facilities, so he told them to go there.

Soon, the cars stopped outside the clinic, and surgeries were performed in order from most severe to least severe.

The surgeries continued until past three in the morning, when they were all completed.

Lance had already returned once. In the paper bag he held, there were twenty thousand dollars.

The doctor looked at him helplessly, then at the bag of money. “I won’t admit that we met.”

Lance did not deny it. He said sincerely, “Thank you very much for your assistance. Otherwise, I would have lost several family members today.”

“From now on, if you have any trouble in Golden Port City, as long as I can solve it, call me anytime, anywhere!” He pulled out a business card and handed it to the doctor.

The doctor originally didn’t want to accept it. Being threatened in the middle of the night to perform surgery, and clearly these people had just participated in a shootout, he didn’t want to cause trouble.

But Lance’s threat was so blatant. He was just a doctor, not anyone else, so he could only compromise in the end.

However, after finishing the surgery, he had some other ideas. Looking at the business card in Lance’s hand, he gently pinched it. “I’ll try not to use it.”

Lance patted his shoulder, “Do you want me to drive you back?”

The doctor shook his head, “You’d better take care of yourselves first,” he said, handing Lance some medicine and instructions on how to care for the patients.

After they left the clinic, Lance called Alberto again; he needed some help now.

The tickets are not enough, but add them first
