Era of Mist

Chapter 173: Chapter 172: Creating Happiness with Celestial Golden Light

The golden light pulsed three times, and his Basic Driving skill’s proficiency rose to the first tier, ”Good.” The driving interface changed again. Cars on the road and potholes in the pavement were highlighted from a great distance, making everything clear at a glance.

’Not bad. This driving interface is amazing!’

He rounded a wide corner, and the road stretched out straight before him. Far in the distance was that flashy OMG, weaving left and right through traffic. ’Excellent. Isn’t this straightaway the perfect stage for a straight-line king like me to tear it up? A ”Good” level driving skill should be enough.’

’An OMG, huh?’

’Hmph. The moment a rider leans into a tuck, you’ve already lost.’

’Time to fly!’

With a roar of the engine, his speed surged. Shi Tiexin leaned low, pressing his torso against the bike as he shot forward.

A few minutes later, the flashy OMG was still weaving down the road, constantly darting through gaps in traffic to overtake other cars. Its reckless driving and constant cutting people off left the other vehicles in disarray, horns blaring in protest. But the young man behind the wheel paid it no mind, continuing to pass and cut off cars while yelling insults back and forth with the other drivers.

Unfortunately for him, his overtaking spree was finally brought to a halt. Three large trucks were driving shoulder to shoulder, taking up all three lanes. The young OMG driver weaved from the rear of one truck to another, frantically slamming his horn, but the trio of big rigs remained unmoved, showing no intention of making way.

”Those three bastards are definitely doing this on purpose! There’s nothing blocking the road ahead! Don’t let me find out who you are, or I’ll have my dad ruin you!”

The young man continued his tirade, then casually glanced at his rearview mirror and spotted a police motorcycle approaching from behind.

”Huh?”

The young man hadn’t expected this. Thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him, he rubbed them to get a better look, but just then, a strong, gloved hand tapped on his window.

TAP TAP TAP. Shi Tiexin, wearing a pair of large sunglasses, rapped on the OMG’s window as he rode alongside it.

”Pull over. Stop the car.”

WHOOSH. The window rolled down, revealing an extended middle finger.

”Fuck you! Fucking idiot!”

’You dare give me the finger? Do you have any idea what the strong arm of the law is?’ Shi Tiexin reached out, grabbed the finger, and bent it back to the absolute breaking point.

”I will only say this once.” CRACK. The finger joint groaned, seemingly ready to snap at any moment. The large sunglasses on Shi Tiexin’s face made him seem exceptionally cold. ”Pull over. Stop the car.”

And so, the car obediently pulled over and stopped.

「Three minutes later.」

The OMG was parked meekly on the side of the road, its young driver having been hauled out of his seat. He cradled his throbbing finger, roaring, ”Do you have any idea who I am? Do you know who my father is? How dare you pull me over! You’ve got a death wish! Ow! I’m gonna make you regret this!”

The young man’s tirade was mostly in Mandarin, but it was peppered with poorly spoken foreign words, though it was impossible to make out what he was muttering. ’Still,’ Shi Tiexin thought, ’for a kid this young to be driving such a nice car, his family must have some clout.’

’But I have to stay true to my purpose and carry out my mission.’

’Am I, Shi Tiexin, a coward? Perhaps... I might make a slight tactical withdrawal when facing a master like Liu Qigang, but I’m definitely not scared of this kid, who clearly shows no sign of essence cultivation.’

’Not to mention, I’m a man with status now!’

’Oh, right. If I’m doing this by the book, what am I supposed to say right now?’

A few memory fragments trickled down, and Shi Tiexin recited familiarly, ”Speeding, illegal lane changes, and a blatant disregard for the lives and property of others. These are all serious violations of traffic regulations.”

He wasn’t sure if it was another consciousness that also wanted to say these words, but the whole spiel rolled off his tongue smoothly, without the slightest hesitation.

As he spoke, Shi Tiexin pulled a ticket book from his jacket pocket. His gloved hand scribbled furiously on it with a pen, then with a RIIIP, he tore off the ticket and slapped it against the young man’s chest. ”That’s a two-thousand-yuan fine and twelve points off your license. The car is being impounded. Come to the station in three days to sort out the paperwork and retrieve it.”

The young man’s eyes widened, and he stared at Shi Tiexin as if he were a moron. ”Impound my car? Are you a fucking idiot? Are you out of your goddamn mind?”

”Hold onto your ticket.” Shi Tiexin pressed the button on his radio and said curtly, ”Tow truck.”

”On our way!”

WHOOOSH. Moments later, a tow truck arrived. Two men in blue coveralls and caps jumped out, expertly attached the tow hook to the OMG, and with a tightening of the winch, hauled the flashy sports car onto the flatbed.

”You just wait! I-I’ll make you pay for this!”

The young man screamed and yelled, but Shi Tiexin had already started his motorcycle. He didn’t spare the youth another glance, paying no mind to his curses and threats. ’As long as I ride fast enough, none of this can touch me.’

’Besides, this feeling of cutting loose is... incredible!’

According to his fragmented memories, the families of rich kids who drove sports cars like this were far more powerful than He Chong’s. Back in Tumu Castle, they were the truly privileged class—the kind of people that even He Chong might not have been qualified to speak to.

’But now? He can just meekly accept the punishment of the law!’

’I think I’m starting to love this job.’

’I don’t care who you are or what your situation is, if you break the traffic laws, I will punish you! ...Er, on second thought, the situation is a bit unclear. Maybe I should ask first?’

Shi Tiexin keyed his radio.

”That kid... there won’t be any problems, right?”

”No problem, no problem at all! He’s just some punk from the Hongshun Society, so what if you mess with him a little? The higher-ups won’t just cover for you, they’ll be thrilled! Besides, with that big helmet and sunglasses, who’s going to know who you are? Go nuts!”

’Oh, so it really isn’t a problem. Seems like I have some pretty solid backing, though I have no idea what the whole situation is.’

’Whatever, I’ll worry about that later. For now, I just need to get through today.’

’Since I have nothing to fear, what am I waiting for? Anyone who breaks the law, no matter who they are, must face its wrath! My ticket book is itching for action. All you violators are going to pay your fines!’

Reckless speeders? Ticketed!

Illegal parkers? Ticketed!

People getting it on in their cars and flaunting their PDAs? Ticket, ticket, ticket!

That drunk driver up ahead, you got a death wish? We’re almost in the city and you’re still swerving all over the road? Pull over! You’re getting an inspection, a ticket, and a tow!

Shi Tiexin patrolled on his motorcycle while his subordinate on the radio periodically fed him information, allowing him to quickly locate serious violators. ’Teamwork is awesome,’ he thought. ’Having a team watch your back is so much better than going it alone. It gives you way more confidence.’

He patrolled the streets from noon into the afternoon. Several hours passed, and his Tier One Basic Driving skill had already reached eighty-nine percent proficiency in the ”Good” rank. The progress was incredibly fast.

However, during his afternoon patrol, Shi Tiexin also noticed a few problems.
