Take Me Away, Dark Lord!

WARNING! Chapter CONTAINS GORE; SKIP IF YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE.

His long, spindly legs kicked high in a grotesque, exaggerated parade march. The internal struggle to remain a ”green flag” completely evaporated. The sociopathic, homicidal monster beneath his ice didn’t roar in anger. It wept tears of pure, euphoric joy.ed parade march. He twirled his polished wooden cane so fast it became a blur, his top hat bobbing on his head.

The jagged, pulsing black veins crawling across his bone-pale face were throbbing violently now, glowing with that sickening, toxic green light. His slit, blood-red eyes were wide, dilated with manic, predatory ecstasy.

”A savior!” he mocked, pointing his cane directly at Seraphina. ”A tiny, brave little savior promising the wrath of a father! How quaint! How utterly, deliciously human!”

He didn’t walk to the edge of the dais; he seemed to glide, closing the distance of the massive hall in a terrifying, unnatural blur of motion. One second he was by the doors, and the next, his face was pressed directly against the iron bars of the cage.

The smell of rotting meat and old copper hit the children like a physical wall.

”But alas, little lambs,” the Trickster whispered, his voice dropping into a raspy, guttural purr that vibrated the iron. ”Hope is a lie told to the meat before it reaches the slaughterhouse. And, as you can see, I am simply famished!”

Before anyone could scream, before Seraphina could even open her mouth to yell, the Trickster moved.

He did not use a key to open the cage door.

He raised his left hand, his long, pale fingers curling into a grotesque, claw-like gesture, and a burst of brilliant, searing emerald mana erupted from his palm.

The anti-magic runes on the iron bars shrieked, glowing a violent, angry red, but the cage was designed to prevent magic from being cast out. It possessed no defenses against magic reaching in.

A tendril of thick, viscous, green magical energy lashed through the bars like a striking viper.

It wrapped violently around the waist of the merchant’s son, the ten-year-old boy who had been crying for his father.

”NO!” the boy screamed, his voice tearing his vocal cords as the magical tendril violently jerked him backward.

The force was overwhelming.

The boy was dragged across the iron grating, his fingernails desperately, futilely scraping against the metal. The other children shrieked, scrambling away, pressing themselves against the far walls in blind, stampeding panic.

CRACK!!!

With a sickening crunch of dislocating bones, the Trickster’s magic forcefully, violently yanked the screaming boy horizontally through the narrow gap between the thick iron bars. The space was entirely too small for a human body, but the demonic magic compressed and contorted the boy’s physical form, dragging him through the metal like wet clay.

The boy collapsed onto the obsidian dais outside the cage, his limbs twisted at horrifying, unnatural angles, gasping and weeping in agony.

The Trickster stood over him, his red eyes glowing with unadulterated, psychopathic delight.

”My father will pay you!” the boy choked out, vomiting a stream of blood onto the polished black stone. ”Please... please...”

”Your father,” the Trickster smiled, a jagged, terrifying crescent of razor-sharp pearlescent teeth, ”is not here.”

The demon did not use a weapon. He didn’t need one.

He dropped his cane to the floor, then dropped to his knees with the terrifying, jerky speed of an insect. His jaw unhinged, dropping impossibly low, stretching his pale, curse-marked skin to the point of tearing.

And then, he plunged his face directly into the boy’s neck.

The sound that followed would be permanently, irrevocably burned into the nightmares of every child in that cage.

It was the wet, horrific, tearing sound of raw meat being ripped from bone. It was accompanied by the frantic, bubbling, gargling scream of a child drowning in his own blood.

The Trickster ripped his head back, a massive chunk of flesh clenched in his jagged teeth. Arterial blood sprayed like a crimson fountain, painting the pure, white pillars, splashing across the polished silver armor in the hoard, and pooling rapidly on the black obsidian dais.

The demon chewed. He chewed with exaggerated, theatrical relish, his eyes rolling back in his head in pure, euphoric bliss. Blood ran down his chin, soaking into his pristine white silk cravat, dripping onto his garish, patchwork coat.

”Exquisite,” the demon moaned, swallowing the meat whole, blood bubbling at the corners of his lips. He plunged his hands directly into the boy’s chest, ripping through the fine merchant clothing, breaking the sternum with a sickening SNAP. ”The terror... it makes the mana so incredibly sweet!”

Inside the cage, a chaos erupted.

Children fainted, dropping like stones against the iron grates. Others screamed until they vomited, pressing their hands over their eyes, trying to claw their way through the solid stone wall at the back of the cage. The terror in the air was so thick it was physically suffocating.

But Seraphina did not faint. She did not scream.

She stood frozen in the center of the cage.

The soul of Mira, the woman who had watched anime and read dark fantasy novels from the safety of a comfortable apartment, was violently ripped away from the concept of fiction.

This was not a story.

This was not words on a page or ink on a screen.

This was a ten-year-old boy being eaten alive, three feet in front of her. She could smell the hot, metallic tang of his blood. She could hear the wet, crunching sounds of his ribs being snapped, see the life fading from his terrified, glassy eyes.

A reality-shattering disgust crashed over her.

It wasn’t just fear. It was a visceral, biological revulsion so intense it bypassed her rational brain entirely. It was an anger so pure, so blindingly hot, that it felt as though someone had poured molten iron directly into her veins.

’He is eating a child,’ her mind whispered, the thought repeating in a loop of escalating, deafening rage. ’He is a monster. A filthy, disgusting, arrogant monster.’

She remembered Kaelus, remembered the way the Reaper of the North had looked at the abductor in the alleyway. She remembered the absolute, uncompromising killing intent that Kaelus possessed, the aura that demanded the eradication of anomalies.

Seraphina’s Supreme Dark Core, which she had so carefully, meticulously compressed into a microscopic singularity to hide from the demon, felt her wrath.

It did not ask for permission.

The emotional dam shattered.

It started as a decline in temperature. The freezing, damp air of the grand hall suddenly plummeted to absolute zero. The blood pooling on the obsidian dais instantly crystallized into dark, jagged red ice.

The terrified, screaming children in the cage suddenly fell entirely silent, their voices snuffed out not by the demon but by the crushing, gravitational pressure that had just materialized in the very center of their prison.

The Trickster paused his gruesome feast. He ripped his blood-soaked face up from the boy’s chest, his slit-pupils expanding in sudden confusion.

He looked toward the cage.

Seraphina was standing up. Her head was bowed, her dark hair casting a deep shadow over her face.

But the surrounding air was visibly warping.

It wasn’t a gentle, swirling mist of magic. It was a catastrophic hemorrhage of absolute void. Pitch-black, liquid shadows were physically bleeding out of her small body, pooling onto the iron grating, eating the light of the chandeliers. The heavy, iron bars of the cage nearest to her began to groan, twisting and buckling inward, unable to withstand the sheer density of the gravitational anomaly she was generating.

”What... what is this?” the Trickster hissed, dropping the boy’s remains. He scrambled backward on the dais, his hands slick with blood. The manic, theatrical ecstasy vanished entirely from his face, replaced by a look of primal shock.

He wasn’t looking at a six-year-old girl. His demonic senses were looking at a metaphysical black hole that had just spontaneously ignited in his dining room.

The sheer volume of the dark mana leaking from her was impossible. It defied the natural laws of the mortal plane. It felt ancient, heavy, exactly like the crushing, suffocating abyss of the deepest, darkest demonic trenches.

”A freak,” the Trickster snarled, his shock rapidly mutating into defensive aggression. ”A little, hidden freak is trying to spoil my harvest!”

He didn’t hesitate.

He raised his blood-soaked hand, gathering a concentrated orb of searing, emerald-green destruction magic.
