Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man

”Sweetheart, don’t cry. We’ll find it in just a second.” Qin Mei misunderstood, thinking the little girl was crying because she was getting desperate and they still couldn’t find a restroom.

”WAAAH... Fourth Aunt, I wet my pants,” Jie Duo sobbed, her heart breaking.

Qin Mei froze for a moment and stopped in her tracks. ’Well, I guess we don’t need to find a restroom anymore.’

Qin Mei crouched down, cupped the little girl’s cheeks, and soothed her, ”It’s okay, sweetheart. You’re wearing a dress.”

Jie Duo was not comforted. She looked at Qin Mei with tear-filled eyes. ”I’m wearing pants.”

It was too cold for a dress in this weather. Shen Qing had been worried she would be cold, but Jie Duo had insisted on wearing the dress Qin Mei bought her. No amount of persuasion worked, so Shen Qing had no choice but to make her wear pants underneath.

”Sweetheart, it’s not embarrassing to wet your pants. Fourth Aunt... Your Fourth Uncle used to wet his pants when he was little, too.” Qin Mei didn’t know how else to comfort the little girl and figured comparing her to Jie Jingchen might work.

Jie Duo stopped crying and blinked. ”Really? Fourth Uncle wet his pants, too?”

Seeing that it was working, Qin Mei took out a handkerchief to wipe the little girl’s tears and said without missing a beat, ”He does. In fact, your Fourth Uncle just wet his pants yesterday.”

”Really?” Jie Duo was instantly comforted. ’If Fourth Uncle still wets his pants and he’s a grown-up, then it’s totally normal for a little kid like me to do it.’

”Really,” Qin Mei confirmed, bobbing her head emphatically.

”Hehe, I’m going to make fun of Fourth Uncle later,” Jie Duo said.

”Sweetheart, it’s not right to make fun of people. If you wet your pants and someone made fun of you, would you be happy?” Qin Mei asked, holding the little girl’s shoulders. ’If Jie Jingchen finds out I’m badmouthing him like this to Jie Duo, I’m dead meat.’

”I wouldn’t be happy,” Jie Duo said with a pout.

”Exactly. You wouldn’t be happy if someone made fun of you, so do you think your Fourth Uncle would be? Sweetheart, listen to me. This is our little secret. You can’t tell anyone, or else...” ’Or else what? A threat? What if I traumatize the poor kid?’

”Not even Mommy and Daddy?” Jie Duo asked.

”Not even them,” Qin Mei replied.

Jie Duo tilted her head, thinking for a moment. ”Okay. It’s our secret. We won’t tell anyone.”

”Such a good girl.” Qin Mei breathed a sigh of relief and gently pinched the little girl’s cheek.

”Fourth Aunt, I’m uncomfortable,” Jie Duo said, squirming a little.

’How could she be comfortable in wet pants?’ Qin Mei thought. She considered just taking them off for her, but then had another thought. ’Xiao Duo is a little girl, and she’s wearing a dress. It wouldn’t be appropriate.’

”Come on, I’ll take you to buy some pants.” Qin Mei took Xiao Duo’s hand. She had just seen a general store not far away. By the time they bought new pants for Xiao Duo and got her changed, the movie probably still wouldn’t be over.

But she had miscalculated. The general store was sold out of all clothes and pants for children under five. Qin Mei had no choice but to take Xiao Duo to the department store instead.

Qin Mei hadn’t told Jie Jingchen where they were going. After waiting a long time for them to return, Jie Jingchen went to look for them at the restroom. But as a grown man, he couldn’t exactly go into the women’s room.

Jie Jingchen stood outside and called out, ”Xiao Duo.”

Just then, a middle-aged woman came out. She was startled to see a man standing outside the women’s restroom. When she saw Jie Jingchen looking at her, she immediately became wary and snapped, ”What do you want?”

Jie Jingchen was a handsome man, but this woman wasn’t a young girl. In her eyes, what was the use of a pretty face? It wouldn’t put food on the table.

”Ma’am, my wife brought our child to the restroom. Could I trouble you to take a look inside and see if they’re in there?” Jie Jingchen asked sincerely.

The woman was a kind-hearted person. ”You wait here.”

The woman turned and went into the restroom. Restrooms in those days weren’t like modern ones; the layout was simple and you could see everything at a glance.

A moment later, the woman emerged from the restroom. ”Just wait a little longer. They’ll be out soon.”

Jie Jingchen breathed a sigh of relief and thanked her, ”Thank you, Ma’am.”

The woman ignored him and walked straight away.

A minute later, a woman leading a two- or three-year-old girl came out of the restroom. She took one look at Jie Jingchen, decided he was a creep, and immediately scooped up her daughter and fled.

’What normal man would be waiting so eagerly outside a women’s restroom?’ she thought. ’He’s definitely staking the place out. The creeps these days are getting more and more brazen, lying in wait right outside the women’s room!’

Jie Jingchen waited and waited, but Qin Mei and Jie Duo never came out. He was getting so desperate he considered just charging into the women’s restroom himself.

”That’s him.” The woman from before had gone and returned, now with two men wearing red armbands in tow.

The two men sized Jie Jingchen up from head to toe. Between his manner of dress and his general demeanor, the word ”sleazy” simply didn’t apply. As for him being a criminal, what kind of criminal exuded such an air of righteous integrity?
