Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man

Chapter 293: Chapter 110: Jing Qi Gives Qin Mei a Passbook

Qin Mei was stunned for a moment. ’So Jie Jingchen actually knew.’ Their maternal grandparents had truly doted on Jing Qi. At just fourteen, she was already a little rich girl. No wonder the Qiao Family was eventually handed over to Jing Qi. It proved they had been right. Jing Qi hadn’t disappointed them, so they could rest in peace.

”Jing Qi, this is the money your grandparents gave you. It’s more than just money; it’s a symbol of their love and affection for you. You shouldn’t be giving a gift with such sentimental value to me.” Qin Mei was trying her best to refuse this huge sum of money.

Jie Jingshan gazed at Qin Mei, pondered for a few seconds, and asked, ”Fourth Sister-in-law, you don’t actually think this is all my savings, do you?”

Qin Mei froze. ’From the sound of it, is this just the tip of the iceberg?’

”I get dividends from the Qiao Family every year, and the money is deposited into my account in Xiangjiang. As for how much I get, I’m not sure. My grandparents used to manage it for me,” Jie Jingshan said.

Qin Mei was petrified. ’So this is why Jing Qi became so successful. Her starting point was just that high.’

Jie Jingshan shoved the bankbook into Qin Mei’s hand. Just as Qin Mei was about to refuse, Jie Jingshan said, ”I’m still young. It’s not safe to keep the bankbook with me.”

Qin Mei clutched the bankbook. ’What Jing Qi said makes sense.’ After a moment’s thought, she relented, ”Alright, I’ll keep it safe for you.”

In truth, Qin Mei felt it wasn’t safe with her either. ’I’ll wait for Jie Jingchen to get home from work and give the bankbook to him to look after.’

Seeing Qin Mei accept it, Jie Jingshan was overjoyed. ”You’re not just keeping it for me,” she said. ”I gave it to you, so it’s yours.”

Qin Mei didn’t say anything, just looked at Jing Qi. ’This little girl is stubborn like no other. Fine, I’ll just go with whatever she says. I won’t touch the money inside. Even if I’m forced to use it, I’ll treat it as a loan and pay it back as soon as I have the money.’

Qin Mei’s silence was taken as tacit agreement by Jie Jingshan, who grew even happier. Changing the subject, she asked, ”Fourth Sister-in-law, this will be your first birthday with our family. What kind of gift do you want?”

’A birthday gift?’ Qin Mei mentally looked to the heavens. ’My birthday? I don’t have the original owner’s memories, so I have no idea when her birthday is. Jie Jingchen mentioned it once, but he only told me the month, not the date.’

Qin Mei smiled, evading the question by asking one of her own. ”What do you want for lunch?”

”I’m fine with anything. What about you, Fourth Sister-in-law?” Jie Jingshan asked in return.

”Let’s eat out,” Qin Mei suggested. ’With money and coupons, we should enjoy ourselves when we can.’

”Okay.” Jie Jingshan had no objections.

Qin Mei first went back to her room to put the bankbook away, locked the cabinet, locked the door to the room, and then pushed Jie Jingshan outside.

When they reached the doorstep, Jie Jingshan stood up, carefully stepping over the threshold while holding onto the doorframe. Qin Mei lifted the wheelchair over, and Jie Jingshan sat back down.

It wasn’t lunchtime yet, so Qin Mei pushed Jie Jingshan around, wandering aimlessly. When it was time, the two went to a state-owned restaurant to eat. After their meal, they went to browse at the department store.

Qin Mei bought two outfits for Jing Qi, two for herself, and two for Jie Jingchen, spending every last bit of the money she had earned the day before.

Instead of taking the bus, Qin Mei pushed Jie Jingshan as they walked home.

”Fourth Sister-in-law, are you tired?” Jie Jingshan asked.

”I am,” Qin Mei said honestly. ’Jing Qi’s in a wheelchair, and I’ve been pushing her this whole time. How could I not be tired?’

”Fourth Sister-in-law, why don’t you sit and I’ll push?” Jie Jingshan suggested.

”Well...” Qin Mei actually considered it. ”Would that be okay?”

”It’s fine,” Jie Jingshan nodded, then added, ”I need the exercise anyway. If I walk while holding onto the wheelchair, I might even be able to take a few more steps.”

Qin Mei wanted to say that holding on and pushing were two different things, but after a few seconds of thought, she said, ”Okay. But you have to do what you can. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

”Okay.” Jie Jingshan stood up and let Qin Mei take her place in the wheelchair.

Jie Jingshan pushed Qin Mei, moving slowly but steadily. Sitting in the wheelchair holding their things, Qin Mei felt incredibly comfortable.

And so they continued, one moment Jie Jingshan pushing Qin Mei, the next Qin Mei pushing Jie Jingshan. Passersby were thoroughly confused. ’Between these two girls, who’s the one with the disability?’

As they neared the hutong where they lived, Qin Mei stopped Jie Jingshan from pushing her. All the neighbors knew Jing Qi, and if they were seen like this...

An idea suddenly flashed in Qin Mei’s mind. ’Let Jing Qi push me. It’s free advertising!’

”Jing Qi, you should push me after all,” Qin Mei said.

”Are you sure, Fourth Sister-in-law?” Jie Jingshan asked. Seeing Qin Mei nod, she smiled, stood up, and let Qin Mei sit.

”Oh my god! What am I seeing? Good heavens! Jing Qi is standing! She’s walking! My god! The Fourth Wife of Jing actually healed Jing Qi’s legs!” a neighbor who saw the scene exclaimed in shock.
