The Elven Cultivator

Two sensational events had recently shaken the Silver Moon Race.

The first was that Furlo had joined the Document Hall, becoming the deputy to the Clan Leader’s assistant, Eleanor.

After their initial shock, the Elves quickly came to accept this news.

After all, Furlo was one of the first disciples of Taichu City.

Her talent was outstanding; she was the only disciple in Taichu City to possess three Spirit Roots, second only to Laine and his Haoyang True Body. Furthermore, she was known for her calm and steady demeanor and had performed excellently in expeditions to the Dark Nether Realm over the past few years.

In the eyes of many Elves, Furlo was the de facto senior female disciple of Taichu City.

Her becoming Eleanor’s deputy, while somewhat sudden, was perfectly reasonable upon closer reflection.

The second event, however, was what truly had the Elves talking nonstop.

A Catman girl named Ye Tong, due to her great merits in the Dark Nether Realm, had earned the qualification to have her Spirit Root tested.

If a Spirit Root was detected, she could switch to cultivating the Taoist Skills that only disciples of Taichu City could practice.

Even if no Spirit Root was found, she could still cultivate the Eight Desolates Prison-Suppression Scripture and receive treatment equal to that of a Silver Moon Legion soldier.

Once the news broke, the entire Clan was in an uproar.

Although the Elves of the Clan dared not object openly, as this was a direct order from the Clan Leader, some couldn’t help but make sour remarks in private, filled with all sorts of envy and jealousy.

If that was how the Clan’s own Elves reacted, the response from the Vassal Races was even more intense.

The day the news spread, the Huangyi, the Ghost Scale Race, and the Catmen were all in an uproar.

Nearly all the Vassal Races were discussing the matter.

Their emotions were far more complex than those of the Clan’s Elves.

Envy, jealousy, yearning, anticipation... A medley of emotions intertwined, as if a bottle of five-flavored spices had been overturned—complex and difficult to describe.

For these races who depended on the Silver Moon Race for their survival, simply attaining treatment equal to that of the Silver Moon Legion was a long-cherished dream.

To say nothing of becoming a disciple of Taichu City.

That was an honor they wouldn’t even dare to dream of.

Everyone understood that this Catman girl, Ye Tong, had soared to the heavens in a single bound.

Her future was now dazzlingly bright.

But at the same time, Ye Tong’s experience had set the hearts of all the Vassal Races ablaze.

Ye Tong’s actions proved that as long as they performed sufficient merits, even members of an Alien Race could be highly valued by the Clan.

It was as if the Vassal Races had been given a shot of adrenaline; their motivation soared to unprecedented heights.

Everyone was rubbing their hands together, eager to perform great deeds and seize a chance to rise above the rest.

...

Taichu City, the Outer City.

Ye Tong followed behind Furlo, crossing the wide, stone-paved street and heading toward a bluish-gray hall.

Unlike the hunting attire or leather armor she was used to wearing, today she had specifically changed into a brand-new, light blue robe. Her long hair was tied back in a neat ponytail with a silver cord, revealing her tan neck and the slightly flushed tips of her ears.

She had done this so as not to be disrespectful on such an important occasion.

Gazing at the hall in the distance, Ye Tong clenched her fists nervously, her palms slick with a fine sheen of sweat.

’It would be a lie to say I’m not nervous.’

Ever since she learned the Clan Leader was going to test her Spirit Root, she hadn’t had a single peaceful night’s sleep.

Every night, she tossed and turned, wondering, ’Will I be able to detect a Spirit Root?’

’What are the legendary Taoist Skills like?’

’And what if I don’t have a Spirit Root? What will I do then?’

Countless thoughts swirled in her mind, leaving her feeling deeply unsettled.

”We’re here.”

Furlo stopped before the vermilion wooden doors and turned to give Ye Tong a slight smile.

”Go on in. Lady Eleanor is already waiting inside.”

Ye Tong thanked Furlo softly, took a deep breath, and pushed the wooden doors open.

Behind the doors was a hall of modest size, about a hundred square meters.

The four walls were inlaid with Light Source Stones, their gentle radiance brightly illuminating the interior.

In the center of the hall was a long table. On it sat a palm-sized jade disc, its edge inlaid with five stones of different colors.

Cyan, red, yellow, white, and black.

Ye Tong’s gaze lingered on the five stones for a moment, and her heart traitorously began to beat faster.

She had heard her people describe this object.

The Spirit Root testing disc.

This was the very device used when Taichu City recruited disciples and tested for Spirit Roots.

”Ye Tong?”

A gentle voice called out from the depths of the hall.

Ye Tong followed the sound and saw an Elf maiden in a light cyan robe standing behind the long table, smiling at her.

Her emerald-green hair cascaded down like a waterfall, and her features were as exquisite as a figure in a painting.

It was none other than the Clan Leader’s assistant, Eleanor Silver Moon.

When the Ghost Scale Race and the Catmen first entered Nine Nether City, Lord Anton had summoned the leaders of both races.

Ye Tong had been watching from a distance back then and had been left with a deep impression of the Clan Leader’s assistant.

”Lady Eleanor.” Ye Tong hurriedly bowed, her voice tinged with unconcealable nervousness.

”There’s no need to be nervous.”

Eleanor smiled slightly and gestured for her to come forward.

”Place your hand on the disc, close your eyes, and don’t think about anything. Just relax.”

Ye Tong took a deep breath, walked to the table, and stretched out a trembling hand, gently placing it on the center of the disc.

It was cool to the touch.

The jade surface was as smooth as a mirror, and the moment her palm made contact, a gentle warmth spread from her fingertips.

Ye Tong closed her eyes.

The sounds around her gradually faded away, as if everything had fallen silent in that instant.

She could only hear her own heartbeat, THUMP, THUMP, as clear as the beating of a drum.

An unknown amount of time passed.

Perhaps it was just an instant, or perhaps it was a long time.

Suddenly, the disc beneath her palm trembled slightly.

Ye Tong’s eyes flew open, and she looked down.

The blue stone was glowing.

It was a deep, profound blue, like the depths of the ocean.

Under the illumination of the Light Source Stones, it shone with a gentle luster, like the brightest star in the night sky.

”A Water Spirit Root.”

Eleanor’s voice echoed in the hall, carrying a trace of complex emotion.

”Congratulations, Ye Tong. You have the aptitude to cultivate Taoist Skills.”

Ye Tong stared blankly at the glowing blue stone, momentarily dazed.

’I have a Spirit Root?’

’I really have a Spirit Root?’

An indescribable joy surged from the bottom of her heart, like a flood bursting through a dam, instantly washing away the tension and anxiety that had been building in her chest for days.

If Eleanor hadn’t been standing right in front of her, she would have started dancing for joy to vent her excitement.

”Thank you, Lady Eleanor... Thank you, Clan Leader...”

Ye Tong was so excited she was stammering.

”You earned this yourself.” Eleanor smiled gently. ”If not for the merits you earned in the Dark Nether Realm, the Clan Leader would not have given you this opportunity.”

With that, Eleanor lifted her hand and lightly tapped a sheet of white paper on the edge of the table.

The paper instantly floated up, folded itself in mid-air into a small Paper Crane, and then flapped its wings, flying out of the hall and disappearing in the blink of an eye.

After doing all this, Eleanor turned to Ye Tong and said with a gentle smile, ”Please have a seat. I need to report this to the Clan Leader, so it will be a moment.”

Ye Tong nodded vigorously and sat down stiffly in a chair, the excited flush on her face yet to fade.

Only a moment passed before a gentle breeze blew open one of the hall’s windows.

A Paper Crane flew in from outside, landing steadily in Eleanor’s outstretched palm.

It held a Qiankun Bag in its beak.

Eleanor took the Qiankun Bag, then retrieved a tome from within it.

In the lamplight, five ancient, silver words could be clearly seen written on the cover.

Profound Yin Night Wanderer Chapter.

Eleanor handed the tome to Ye Tong, her tone gentle yet solemn. ”This is the Cultivation Technique the Clan Leader has bestowed upon you. From this day forward, use this as your foundation and cultivate diligently.”

”If there is anything you don’t understand, you can ask Furlo.”

”She will help answer your questions.”

Ye Tong accepted the tome with both hands, excitedly agreeing again and again.

Eleanor smiled slightly, said no more, and turned to leave the hall.

Immediately after, Furlo walked in. She gave the tome clutched tightly in Ye Tong’s arms a complicated look and said softly, ”Let’s go. I’ll see you out.”

”Okay.”

Ye Tong nodded vigorously and followed Furlo out of the hall.

Sunlight poured down through a break in the clouds, spilling onto the bluish-gray stone path with a warm glow.

In the distance, the spire of the Ninefold Celestial Tower glittered under the sun, like a sharp sword piercing the heavens.

Ye Tong looked up at the majestic tower, an indescribable sense of heroic ambition swelling in her heart.

’From today onward, I’m a cultivator, too.’

’Even though I’m just from an Alien Race and my starting point is much later than the Clan’s Elves...’

’I believe that as long as I work hard enough, one day I can become as strong as the other disciples of Taichu City.’

”Ye Tong.”

Furlo’s voice came from ahead.

”Don’t space out. Keep up.”

”Coming!”

Ye Tong tore her gaze away and quickened her pace to follow.

The two made their way to the Teleportation Square in the outer city.

Just as Ye Tong was about to step into the Teleportation Array, Furlo took out a Paper Crane and handed it to her. ”This Paper Crane contains my Spiritual Sense imprint. If you run into anything you don’t understand during your cultivation, you can contact me at any time.”

”Yes, Lady Furlo.” Ye Tong accepted the Paper Crane, her expression sincere. ”Thank you.”

Furlo gave her a deep, meaningful look. ”I hope that one day in the future, I will hear you call me ’Senior Sister’.”

Ye Tong froze for a moment, then quickly understood and nodded with determination.

”I look forward to that day, too.”

Furlo smiled faintly, said no more, and waved to Ye Tong.

Ye Tong waved back, then stepped into the Teleportation Array and vanished.

...

After seeing Ye Tong off, Furlo walked back along the street alone, preparing to return to the inner city. Near the gate, however, she saw Mia and Laine.

”Furlo.”

Mia walked over quickly, a charming smile on her face.

”What are you two doing here?”

A smile touched Furlo’s lips upon seeing them.

Laine chuckled. ”We just came from the Dao Transmission Pavilion and were about to head to the Meeting Hall to check for new missions. On the way, we heard some disciples talking about you bringing a Catman girl into the city, so we came to see you.”

”Furlo, did you take that Catman girl, Ye Tong, to get her Spirit Root tested?” Mia asked curiously.

Furlo smiled and nodded.

”Did it work? Does she have a Spirit Root?” Mia pressed.

”A Water Spirit Root,” Furlo answered truthfully. ”And the Master has already bestowed a Cultivation Technique upon her.”

Laine and Mia exchanged a glance, both seeing a trace of surprise in each other’s eyes.

”That Catman girl’s fate has been completely changed,” Laine remarked with feeling.

Furlo and Mia deeply agreed.

If no Spirit Root had been found, Ye Tong could only have cultivated the Eight Desolates Prison-Suppression Scripture. The best she could have hoped for in her life would be to climb to the rank of an officer in the Silver Moon Legion.

It was even more likely she would have only received the treatment of an ordinary soldier.

But with a Spirit Root, she had gained the qualification to cultivate Taoist Skills. In the future, she might even become the first-ever disciple of Taichu City not from the main race.

She had become one of the elite in a single stroke!

Her destiny had undergone a world-altering transformation.
