Chapter 3309: Chapter 3310: Extinction Catastrophe

On the other side, after studying carefully for a few minutes, Laplace finally looked up.

Angel immediately asked, ”Did you make any discoveries?”

Laplace hesitated for a moment and shook her head, ”Not much of a discovery.”

No discovery? Angel was slightly disappointed and pointed to the huge, mismatched ’pet’: ”This, you haven’t seen it before either?”

Laplace still shook her head, ”I haven’t seen it. It should be a creature of the Void. From these few images, it seems to be one of those Void creatures that can be tamed.”

”However, you should know, most of what I see in the Sea of Void Mirror are images from within the worlds, and the Void images outside the worlds are difficult for the Sea of Void Mirror to receive.”

The images received by the Sea of Void Mirror from the myriad worlds rely on ”mirror surfaces”, whether it’s reflections on a pond surface, the surface sheen of a falling droplet, or an ancient mirror witnessing history... The images the Sea of Void Mirror can receive are all those mirrored reflections.

But in the Void, there’s an endless expanse of darkness. Conditions for forming a ”mirror surface” are almost nonexistent, resulting in Void images being the rarest in the Sea of Void Mirror.

Even when occasionally encountered, it’s likely just a fleeting glimpse captured when some Void creature’s skin or scales reflect back as a momentary mirror surface—extremely rare.

Under these circumstances, Laplace actually doesn’t know much about Void creatures.

As for what the mismatched thing is, she cannot say.

Though Angel was somewhat disappointed, he understood the limitations of the Sea of Void Mirror. Originally, he hoped to get some intelligence from Laplace, but now it seems unlikely.

For now, he can only inquire from Lord Rhein and others later.

Since answers aren’t forthcoming, Angel decided to first withdraw all the surrounding illusions.

However, just as Angel was about to remove the third image—that is, the image of the mismatched three carrying their other two ’masters’—Laplace suddenly spoke up: ”Actually, I know some information about this.”

Angel paused, eyes turning to the image.

Within the image are two races, one being a robust Humanoid Race with seemingly burning purple-red skin; the other is a gaseous life form constructed of various glowing points, resembling a miniature ’nebula’.

Angel: ”Which one are you talking about?”

Laplace pointed to the gaseous life form: ”This one.” ℯℓ.

Angel hesitated, ”Does it have any special traits?”

He was asking because Laplace had previously hesitated to say ”no discoveries,” but now suddenly pointed at this gaseous life form claiming ”it’s seen.”

Angel didn’t know what Laplace was thinking, but he guessed that something about this gaseous life form might be special enough to make Laplace hesitate so much.

However, upon hearing Angel’s inquiry, Laplace shook her head: ”It doesn’t have any special traits itself, but if I remember correctly, its race is already extinct...”

”Extinct?” Angel looked at Laplace in surprise, ”Are you saying it’s a survivor of a presumably extinct race?”

Laplace nodded initially but then shook her head again.

She nodded because Angel’s guess was possible; the gaseous life form indeed might be a ”survivor.”

She shook her head because this gaseous life form might also already be extinct, and the image Angel sees is from when it was alive.

Laplace thought so because Angel had previously mentioned the image is a record from decades ago.

Whereas the race of this gaseous life form went extinct within the last five years.

Thus, it’s possible Angel’s information network recorded a survivor, or perhaps it too became part of the extinction when returning to its homeland.

”Extinct within the last five years?” Angel frowned, ”Was it discovered by some advanced civilization and then exterminated?”

Laplace shook her head, ”If it was truly advanced civilizations oppressing lower ones, they wouldn’t actually be completely exterminated.”

Conflicts between civilizations lead to eradication only when their levels are close enough to fight to the end; and if an advanced civilization crushes a lower one, it wouldn’t lead to complete extermination.

Whether due to hypocrisy or indifference, that’s the outcome.

Much like humans face lower animals, they don’t immediately think of complete extermination but rather drive them to remote forests or directly keep them in zoos.

True slaughter is instead done by civilizations close in strength, because their levels are nearly identical, and unless you’re completely exterminated, even a spark can blaze across the grassland with the help of a favorable wind.

Angel: ”So they tasted defeat fighting with a similarly ranked civilization and were thus exterminated?”

Laplace still shook her head, ”No, their extinction wasn’t from war between civilizations but a remarkable extinction.”

Expanded version of ’non-natural death’ is the remarkable extinction of the entire race.

”I can confirm they were exterminated by external forces, but specifically what force, I don’t know.”

Just five years ago, Laplace had received images from this race.

She doesn’t know the precise name of this race, but she knows they lived in a world full of special gases.

This world lacks so-called continents and oceans, only various gases, whether clear or turbid.

Approaching outside the world, the more stagnant the gases become; the closer to the world core, the clearer they become, and even exhibit a luminous and bright quality.

Consider the core as the star like the sun, while the outer is endless black turbid gases swirling.

This race lived in this turbid gas.

The clear gases making up the ’sun’ were places inaccessible to them. Comparatively, clear gases are akin to the ground of human civilization. Ordinary people can ocassionally dig in but cannot live underground permanently.

This race usually clings to the black turbid gases, plus, their bodies formed of various glowing points, looking from afar like circular Milky Ways.

The light from the Milky Way reflects on the turbid gases, forming surfaces that can reflect, which is why Laplace can see images of this race in the Sea of Void Mirror.

”On the day they went extinct, I saw the collapse of Milky Ways and the disintegration of nebulas... It happened in an instant.”

”In just a few hours, this world returned to its initial state. No longer any light points of Milky Way, only clear gas shining like permanent sun and turbid gases like black fog. No gaseous life forms, just a gaseous world.”

”From start to finish, I never saw the reason for their extermination.”

Laplace, when she said this, was slightly emotional, as if lamenting the impermanence of things.

Since Angel didn’t witness it firsthand, it was hard for him to imagine this picture completed, but when he visualized a civilization’s collapse like ”galactic fragmentation,” he couldn’t help but sigh.

Yet after the sigh, more questions arose: ”Since you didn’t see the cause of the extinction, how can you be sure it’s an abnormal extinction caused by external aggression?”

Faced with Angel’s inquiry, Laplace was silent for quite some time, long enough that Angel thought she wouldn’t answer, and then she slowly opened her mouth: ”Because... it’s not only this gaseous group that has been exterminated.”

Angel: ”???”

Laplace sighed gently and narrated what she had seen and heard...

After listening to Laplace’s narrative, Angel was also stunned.

In summary, just two words: bizarre.

Because within just a short decade, Laplace had already seen at least six races exterminated, and all like this gaseous group, vanished completely without a sound.

Most importantly, these groups are all in the North Cross District, and even their Void coordinates are within the same ”sector.”

According to Laplace’s speculation, an unknown calamity may have occurred in the North Cross Region, and once these calamities affected the civilized world, the consequence is... extinction.

This is why Laplace hesitated earlier and did not say it immediately.

Because even she sensed the bizarreness from within, the depth of which even Laplace didn’t want to meddle with.

After all, among these exterminated groups, there’s no shortage of ”Extraordinary Life.” Like the gaseous life akin to a nebula, they can survive in the Void, and traverse the Void, taming triple hybrid, which is enough to illustrate their Extraordinary System is complete, not of a low level.

Even such groups possessing powerful Extraordinary Life vanishing inexplicably, Laplace naturally felt wary.

”In just a short decade, multiple civilized races have suffered extinction calamity?” Angel murmured lowly, he didn’t expect the answer to be so shocking and bizarre.

Moreover, from Laplace’s description, one can know that this calamity of civilization, the catastrophe of extinction has not yet reached an end.

And at this very moment, as Angel and Laplace discuss, perhaps a civilization in the North Cross Region is experiencing abnormal racial extinction.

Remote sensing helplessly, shared sorrow.

While Angel was silently sighing, Luigi suddenly spoke: ”What you are saying cannot find the origin of the triple hybrid, nor does it have anything to do with Goose Deacon either...”

”However, I did notice one thing, the people originating from the imagery Angel sent out, that seemed to be of Goose Deacon’s kin, had quite anxious expressions, seemingly in a rush.”

”What could make him so urgent? Could it be related to the extinction you mentioned?”

Angel, Laplace: ”...”

Angel: ”You can’t forcibly link two unrelated matters. An anxious expression can only prove he has something on his mind.”

Luigi knew he seemed to be forcing a connection, he shrugged: ”Anyway, I’m just randomly guessing.”

Looking at Luigi’s indifferent expression, Angel momentarily thought of Red Sword Dox. When Dox speaks of ”guessing,” he too has this same casual expression, yet each of his guesses almost always hits the mark.

Dox has extraordinary Spiritual Sense, and this inspiration and intuition can even be called a ”talent.”

Angel saw the shadow of Dox in Luigi, and therefore, an absurd thought rose in his mind: Could Luigi’s guess be right?

This thought existed in his mind only for an instant and then vanished like a bubble illusion.

Truly, the two are completely unrelated.

Goose Deacon’s kin, whether they belong to the North Cross Region, is still an unknown. To speculate their group might face extinction now is simply drawing a conclusion without basis.

Angel shook his head, tossing aside this absurd thought.

Luigi: ”Speaking of which, this extinction calamity in the North Cross Region, do the surrounding civilizations completely ignore it? Don’t they worry about being affected by the disaster themselves?”

Angel was also curious about this question and looked towards Laplace, hoping for an answer.

Laplace thought for a moment and said: ”Many of the images I’ve seen are not ones I can choose myself. At least in the images I’ve seen, the civilizations in the North Cross Region have yet to show any major reaction.”

In Laplace’s view, there may be two speculations for this situation.

Firstly, the surrounding civilizations themselves do not know what to do. After all, a civilization cannot entirely consist of Transcendent beings, most are ordinary Life, facing such disasters they simply cannot ward them off.

Even to say, even if they are Extraordinary Life, they cannot timely respond to such an invisible and unknown disaster, at most thinking about escaping.

How many Transcendent beings have ventured into the Void? How many can survive in the Void for long periods and cross space-time distances to reach the outlands?

So, perhaps the upper tier already knows the disaster exists, but they dare not announce it. Because announcing it serves no real purpose, might as well feign ignorance.

Secondly, the reason why surrounding civilizations show no reaction may also stem from another possibility: interference by higher-level civilization.

The North Cross Region is vast, among them, by the standards of Transcendent limits, civilizations comparable to the Wizard World exist.

In other words, these high-level civilizations might contain beings beyond the Legendary Level.

If such existences acted to protect, this invisible calamity might be resolved.

Of course, this is merely one of Laplace’s guesses, whether higher-level civilization intervened, she also doesn’t know currently.

Whether Laplace’s narrative is true, Angel doesn’t know either, but he thought of another matter from what Laplace described in the second point.

He remembers clearly that the guest of the Observer came from the Superstar Organization Nuke Academy, a scholar of the All Things Theory—Camilleon. When he departed from the Origin World, his destination seemed to be the North Cross Region.

Could it be that Camilleon went for this strange disaster?

After all, Wizards from the Origin World have planted eyes and ears throughout the Void, with the intelligence collection capabilities of Superstar Organizations in the Origin World, they must already know of the bizarre disaster in the North Cross Region.

Sending Wizards to investigate is highly possible.

However, this is still Angel’s speculation, whether true or not will be known after consulting the Observer after returning.
