Parallel World Light Novelist

Chapter 328: Chapter 327: The Aftermath

The masses cheered for the name of a hero, never knowing that the true hero had already fallen.

In that final moment, as the world watched the broadcast, people everywhere roared the name of Zero in triumph. Nunnally, looking down at Lelouch as he collapsed beside her, reached out and took his hand. As her power was triggered, she saw directly into his heart. In a flash of clarity, she finally understood his true objective. She realized that she had been wrong about him all along.

”I... destroy the world... and create it... anew,” Lelouch whispered, his eyes fixed on Nunnally. With those final words, the light of life faded from his gaze.

The closing scene of the animation depicted Nunnally’s agonizing cries over Lelouch’s body, juxtaposed against the thunderous cheers of a world celebrating Zero’s victory over the Evil Emperor.

Peace had finally come to the world. With the fires of war extinguished, Nunnally became the figurehead leader of a new global coalition.

Suzaku, hidden behind the mask of Zero, took up Lelouch’s former mantle, dedicating his life to fighting for peace and hope as a symbol of the new era.

The very end of the episode showed C.C. dressed in traveling clothes atop a horse-drawn cart filled with hay. Looking up at the blue sky, she spoke softly to the wind.

”The power of the King, the power of Geass, brings solitude. I suppose that wasn’t quite right, was it, Lelouch?”

The ending theme began to play.

Asuma sat there, his back drenched in a cold sweat. His heart was a swirling vortex of deep emotion and profound grief. Was this truly the end?

To prevent the Cart Driver Theory debates that had plagued the series in other worlds, Haruto had intentionally avoided those ambiguous shots. He made sure the audience wouldn’t be led down that path of speculation.

Code Geass was over with this second season. Since there was no third season in the works, he saw no reason to give the fans false hope.

But as the credits rolled, Asuma and countless other fans felt a hollow void opening in their chests. This ending was completely beyond their expectations, and it elevated Lelouch’s character arc to something truly transcendent.

However, Lelouch was dead. He was really gone. And why was it that this author always paired such heartbreaking scenes with such hauntingly beautiful music?

”I can’t accept this. Did Lelouch really just die like that?”

”Is there any chance he’s actually alive?”

”He was run through with that massive sword by Suzaku. How could anyone survive that?”

”But C.C. is immortal, right? Is it possible Lelouch became the same?”

”You’re overthinking it. Lelouch didn’t take C.C.’s Code power; if he had, she would be dead now.”

”But Lelouch killed his father. His father took the Code from V.V., so maybe Lelouch inherited it from him?”

”If that were the case, according to the show’s own rules, Lelouch wouldn’t have been able to use his Geass anymore.”

”So he’s definitely dead?”

”Dead as a doornail.”

”In the first season, Lelouch and Suzaku shot at each other, but we never saw Lelouch actually get hit. That left a cliffhanger for the second season. But this time, we saw the blade go through him. There’s no coming back from that. He’s gone.”

”But why? With Lelouch’s absolute power, he could have easily faked his death if he wanted to. Why didn’t he just go into hiding? Suzaku gets to ’die’ and live on as Zero forever. Why couldn’t Lelouch just disappear to some quiet corner of the world under a different name?”

”That’s exactly what C.C. meant at the end. This death was Lelouch’s way of atoning for his sins. To shape the world into his ideal, he killed so many people. If we put aside our feelings for him as the protagonist, the man was responsible for countless deaths. This was the path he chose for himself.”

”Stop making excuses for him! Let’s be real, the author just had a sudden urge to kill off the main character. If Suzaku can hide his identity as Zero, Lelouch could have faked his death, worn a hood, and called himself ’Number One’ or something. It wouldn’t have been a problem!”

”Exactly! This is all the author’s fault!”

”Haruto, you monster! Give me back my tears!”

”I cried so hard during this episode, my eyes are swollen.” 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

”But honestly, it was the most brilliant episode of the entire series. I was worried the ending wouldn’t live up to the hype, but we clearly underestimated the Warrior of Love.”

”It was legendary. I never imagined it would end like this. It’s just so incredibly depressing. I really didn’t want to see him die.”

”I hope the author makes a third season.”

”We need a third season! I’m demanding it!”

”What would a third season even be about? The story is perfectly finished. The world is at peace, and a new century has begun.”

”I don’t care! Just write a slice-of-life season where Lelouch comes back and acts all lovey-dovey with C.C.!”

”Yeah, I’d watch fifty episodes of Lelouch just living a normal life.”

”No, I can’t handle him being dead. There has to be more.”

”What happens to C.C. now? Her dream was for someone to finally kill her. Now she has to wander off and find a new Geass user?”

”You’ve got it all wrong! Have you even been paying attention? C.C.’s true wish wasn’t to die; it was to be loved! In her time with Lelouch, she finally found that love. Her wish has already been fulfilled.”

”God, this ending... it explains everything, but it leaves me even more obsessed than the cliffhangers did.”

”I’m not sleeping tonight. My brain won’t turn off.”

”I don’t even care about what happens next. I just feel empty. Watching Lelouch go out like that... it hurts too much.”

As soon as the finale finished airing, Code Geass completely dominated the trending topics on social media.

[Lelouch is dead.]

[Will there be a Code Geass Season 3?]

[Code Geass ending explained.]

[Lelouch’s resurrection!]

The tags were wild and varied, taking over the top spots on every major site. Fans who were left in a state of unresolved obsession found it impossible to sleep. The volume of discussion only grew as the night went on. By 11:00 PM, the fans had reached a consensus: they stormed the comment sections of Tokyo TV1 and Haru-Yuki Animation to vent their frustrations.

To be fair, they weren’t exactly complaining about the quality. Most fans admitted the ending was a masterpiece that elevated the entire work. They just couldn’t accept the fact that Lelouch was dead, and since they couldn’t change the story, they took it out on Haruto.

That night, Haruto’s social media accounts were flooded with over a hundred thousand private messages and comments cursing his cruelty. While the majority of fans were rational enough to see the brilliance of the finale, a vocal minority was far too emotional. They loved the ending but hated the death, a contradiction they were happy to ignore while yelling at the creator.

This wave of emotion fermented overnight and showed no signs of stopping the next morning. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry was watching the chaos with rapt attention.

However, they knew the anger would fade in a few days. They were looking at the data. Word on the street was that the viewership numbers for the finale were absolutely insane.

Just how insane were they?

By noon, Tokyo TV1 officially released the ratings for the final episode of Code Geass.

The average rating for the entire episode was 6.91%. The peak viewership, occurring at the exact moment of Lelouch’s death at the end of the episode, hit a staggering 7.09%.

The average of 6.91% alone was enough to send shockwaves through the industry.

But a peak of over 7%?

Haruto’s peers could only shake their heads in disbelief.

These numbers were so high that it was unlikely anyone would surpass them for a very long time. It was a record that seemed almost untouchable.
